  1. Thanks for your book lists! My 9th grader will be studying world geography next year but I haven't gotten very far with planning yet.
  2. My oldest son struggled in first and second grade with reading and handwriting and he was easily frustrated (still is, but no where near as badly as he used to be). It was hard to get much done in any subject. He's finishing 6th grade now and will be doing pre-algebra next year. The last two years we've done two lessons a day 4 days a week as often as we could. And we also worked on multiplication/division flash cards for a while in addition to his regular work.
  3. I've made a few changes: We'll be doing Geography with BYL year 0 (and some undetermined supplements) instead of history, and life science for science (maybe RSO??).
  4. We're going to study world geography using BYL year 7 instead of studying history. Still working on writing and grammar.
  5. Still working on it! I've made several changes. English: AAS 1, HWT 1, OPGTR, WWE 1, FLL 1 Geography and literature: BYL year 0 (with pre-k and 3rd grade brothers) Science: thinking about using RSO Life (also with his brothers) Spanish: La Clase Divertida 1 (along with older siblings)
  6. Still planning! A few changes: Instead of history, we'll be focusing on geography next year with BYL year 7. I'm still working on writing and grammar, and considering other options for pre-algebra and life science.
  7. DS just turned 4yo. Next year he'll be doing: HWT pre-k/K (is working on pre-k level now) AAR pre-1 MEP Reception BYL year 0 (tagging along with his big brothers) Life Science (or whatever big brothers end up doing, again just tagging along) La Clase Divertida 1 (tagging along with older siblings, but is already into Spanish and asking us what certain words are in Spanish) Religion: various resources, including a children's Bible, short saint stories, and Catholic Children's Treasure Box books
  8. We've made several changes already, but still not done planning yet. Math: Honors Algebra 2 and Trigonometry online at Kolbe Academy Science: Biology with lab online at Kolbe Academy English 9: No idea! World Geography: Maybe OM World Geography Spanish: Level 1 online at Kolbe Academy Religion: Bible, Catechism, Fire Within, and a few more books TBD Maybe an elective or two, or at least a few other books to read that don't quite fit anywhere else??
  9. Can you tell me more about this? I'm mostly looking to study cultural geography.
  10. I'm listening in. My younger kids are probably going to study world geography next year, so I'm considering having my 9th grader study the same subject.
  11. Math: Singapore 5A/5B English: AAS 5, something for writing/grammar History/Literature: working through AO with 7th grade brother, probably the end of year 3 through year 4 Science: probably Harcourt grade 6, half of book Religion: Bible, Catechism, and saint stories Spanish
  12. Math: Singapore 3A/3B English: AAS 3, WWE 2, FLL 2, partner reading History/Literature: parts of AO years 1/2 Science: with 1st grade brother, probably reading from encyclopedias and doing hands on work Religion: Bible, Catechism, and saint stories Spanish: tag along with older siblings
  13. I'll be teaching first grade for the fifth time next year! Math: Singapore 1A/1B English: AAS 1, HWT 1, phonics primer, reading practice, copywork Geography: maybe, if so it will be mom-made, or maybe tag along with 3rd grade brother's history (AO year 1/2) Science: tag along with 3rd grade brother, probably reading encyclopedias and doing hands on work Religion: Bible, Catechism, and saint stories Spanish: tagging along with older siblings
  14. Math: Pre-algebra, using the rest of Singapore 6, Jousting Armadillos, and something to review arithmetic Writing/Grammar: ?? Spelling: AAS 7 Science: Life Science with Science Explorer and labs History/Literature: continue our work through AO with 5th grade sister, hopefully the end of year 3 through year 4 Religion: Bible History, Catechism, and saints Spanish Logic puzzle books of some kind
  15. We'll have our first high schooler next year! DH wants dd to have several classes online to free up my time for everyone else. I used to have everything for the next year picked out way before February, but it's been getting harder each year. This is tentative. Math: Honors Geometry at Kolbe Academy (or maybe AOPS Geometry at home; dd wants to use it as a supplement if she does the online class at Kolbe) Science: Biology with lab at Kolbe Academy or home or Conceptual Physics at home English: Honors Greek Literature at Kolbe Academy Something else for writing?? History: ?? DD would prefer not to study Greek or Roman history and does not want a textbook. Spanish: Level 1 at Kolbe Academy Religion: ?? Maybe an elective??
  16. Is your son in the class that meets on Thursday morning? That was one of the classes my dd shadowed this week.
  17. After thinking she wouldn't like any online classes, oldest dd is partway through a shadow week at Kolbe Academy and is enjoying it. I'm looking for more options for live classes. She specifically likes that there was a chat box as well as opportunities to speak in the classes. What are your favorites?
  18. I'm planning on starting 8th grade dd on Conceptual Physics by Paul Hewitt after New Year's. What are your favorite resources? DD (and 6th grade ds, who might tag along some, he's a physics guy) love watching lectures. I would also like to have some labs. Extra readings would be a bonus. Thanks!

  20. My 6th grader is finishing Harcourt grade 6. I'm hoping to do some physics and astronomy next, as those are his favorite topics. I'm thinking the Secrets of the Universe by Paul Fleisher for physics and am undecided for astronomy. My 8th grader is finishing Apologia Chemistry, then will start either Conceptual Physics or Miller & Levine Biology.
  21. Thanks! We'll check it out. They love Great Courses so they'll probably like this.
  22. What are your favorite videos or resources about imaginary numbers? Oldest dd has been studying it in algebra. And now 11yo ds is intrigued.
  23. You don't need to memorize the periodic table. And you don't even necessarily need to participate in the contest. I really liked the study guides and would recommend them just as a resource to learn chemistry.
