  1. It really depends on what your shower walls are - tile (ie. sandstone, slate, etc.), marble, ceramic, molded plastic, fiberglass, etc.
  2. We have an iPad and a netbook (also desktop and a laptop). I hate the netbook - it's useless IMO - I thought I'd love it, really wanted to love it, but it's really, to me, just a pitiful dysfunctional miniature laptop that doesn't do much of anything other than get online. I made do when traveling with it until I got the iPad when I really only needed something to get online with and didn't yet have an iPhone. Now our iPad - I love the iPad and use it all the time! We all use it all the time. The only time DH or I actually travel with the laptop at this point is when he'll need it if he's giving a presentation and the venue won't be supplying a laptop where he can just bring a flash drive with him.
  3. macadamia nuts are extremely mild in taste and they're not really a nut, but a fruit. I'm not sure how well they'll grind to use as a 'nut flour' - almonds are the go to nut for that due to the relatively low fat content, which makes them 'powdery' when ground. But you could always try with the macadamias and see how that goes?
  4. I was just looking at our calendar for the year and realized I have a lot more field trips planned than I thought - I'm wondering if it's too many? We're doing: Botanical Gardens Science Center History Museum Archeology Museum Anthropology Museum Fossil dig site Mine tour Cave tour State Capitol Nature Center Indian Mounds Children's Museum Art Museum Puppet Institute Art Center Theater (plays) Concert (music)
  5. Excluding trips to the library, how many field trips, that are educational in nature or specifically tied to lessons, do you average each year? Where do you go on your field trips?
  6. :iagree: My mother tells the stories of her hand being struck with a ruler while going to grammar school in the 40s....even the pain didn't stop her from being a lefty....and she has beautiful writing - reading it, you'd never know she was a lefty.
  7. Other? :001_huh: I'm ambidextrous, DH is right-handed DS is right-handed, but quite capable with his left hand too, so many turn out to be ambidextrous Baby-DS is still too young to know
  8. After I posted my reply, I just thought that too.
  9. If it were me, I'd want someone to say something.
  10. We're in 5400sf and until January had only one, and had figured another just wasn't in the cards - then baby-DS surprised us :) - so now we're at 2700 sf per kid. The this much space is, honestly, a love-hate thing for me, on the one hand I love we have so much room, on the other, it's a pickle to clean and I finally gave up and hired someone to help after baby-DS was born!
  11. I wasn't sure about it myself and starting poking around and with the 1-credit a month you get with the membership, you can choose anything you want with the 1-credit, even audiobooks that cost a lot more, as long as they're 1-credit options (or save your credit until the next month and then use 2-credits for that). If it were just a membership fee to then buy, I'd probably have passed on it - but I'll easily use the credits on audiobooks that would cost more than the monthly fee....and some of them aren't available as audiobooks anywhere else, like The Story of US. While it is available on Amazon in CD format for the set - the price is $788! It looks like each volume is 1-credit on Audible, or if you pay for it as a member, it's $14.66-$19.66 per volume, depending on volume. The bigger cost saver in my estimation is going to be the books that go along with SOTW - for example, Julius Caesar: Saddleback Illustrated Classics - if I want to buy the paperback from Amazon, it's $7.95....the audible with synchronized illustrations is $4.87 and DS could listen to it on the iPad rather than me read it aloud. A book like A Story, A Story (that I have a copy of) I paid $5.99 (was part of a $7.99 4-for-3 order I did a while ago).....we read it just a couple of times - on audible it's $1.39 and has the synchronized illustrations - so I could still sit with DS and snuggle as part of our storytime (or he could listen and page through on his own with the iPad), but I would have spent a lot less for it! After doing some quick math before doing the offer, I realized I'll save more than the cost of the monthly fee. ETA: cross posted.
  12. yes...finally.....they're priced at $29.67 per volume (34% off)
  13. Yeah, I checked for SOTW - more to see if it was there since I just ordered the CD's for 2, 3 and 4 since the price finally dropped on Amazon....and I've got Hakim's set in my cart, waiting since I really don't need it right now, and will probably get it to have the book copies, but am glad to see it is available - like your DD, my DS loves listening to history and a bunch of other stuff in the car. The other day we took DH's car to the grocery store and about half way there remembered that we forgot the CD in my car.
  14. WooHoo - Joy Hakim's Story of US is on there too - all of the books in the series!
  15. Yeah....a number of mine are like that too....like yesterday's Pentel Oil Pastel's for $3.69 (36 pastel set) that popped up after I'd already placed my order.
  16. That's a great deal...I also had iPad speakers on my list and decided to do it now instead of next month after looking through Audible.com's selections...which are great! Plus - they have a ton a picture books, most less expensive than kindle versions and some are free....!

  18. Our local barnes & noble gets lots of our business too - the educator discount card is great! The local store manager here actually has a newsletter that goes out and is always asking for feedback from hs'ers sicne there are quite a number of us in the area. And we have two indy bookstores in town (college town) that we frequent sicne they're great - not always cheaper, but definitely more fun and great service.
  19. If we're using really good coffee - no, it'll be too strong (and we like strong coffee)....if we're using cheap coffee, yes, otherwise it's too weak.
  20. There's Prime you pay for - $79 a year And Prime that Amazon sometimes offers Free, like Prime Mom (not sure exactly what they call it) Prime is your shipping for a year - no matter how small an order, if the item is sold by Amazon (or fulfilled by someone contracted by Amazon), shipping is already paid, so you don't have to have a minimum order of $25 to qualify for free shipping. The default shipping with Prime is two-day and it's usually through UPS, although sometimes I'll get something FedEx or USPS. Prime also has a one-day ship option for $3.99 per item, which is great if you need something overnight and only need that one thing (multiple items, each is charged the $3.99). And the paid Prime now offers free streaming videos, a la Netflix, as part of the "benefits" for having Prime.
  21. Upstairs our AC vents are actually in the ceiling, blowing down into each room, so that helps. We do also have ceiling fans in each of the bedrooms upstairs, and that helps ALOT. But, we have just one system for the whole house at this point and the HVAC company has suggested we split it into two, with one for upstairs and one for the main and lower levels.
  22. I didn't see that it'll tell you the number - just looked at the 6-month number and I'm shocked, shocked I say - 148 orders! I didn't check, but do kindle downloads count in that number?
