  1. I'm glad I saw this, my periods have been horrendous lately. I no longer have my Mirena (side effects) and am on the progesterone only pill, but it's still ridiculous. I do use a Diva cup (so I know how quickly it overflows) and cloth pads but those have made no difference. I'm going to try the Advil or Aleve this time around, I usually just end up essentially housebound for the first few days which is ridiculous. We're supposed to take my in-laws sight-seeing around the time AF arrives this time and I've been dreading it. It's one thing to have a crime scene in your own bathroom but a public restroom? Nope.
  2. I was 39 when #6 was born and a massive pulmonary embolism (attributed to the pregnancy) nearly killed both of us during my first trimester, I don't want to deal with that kind of pregnancy again. That's my logical reason. How do I know? The thought of seeing a 2nd line on a pregnancy test now fills me with dread, where in the past it was always just... expected, hoped for, or accepted.
  3. I'm wondering the same thing for my 5th grader, I was just searching the threads for idea for reading comprehension.
  4. I just switched to it this year, first for my 6 year old and soon for my 8 year old. I've been quite happy with it so far.
  5. My oldest switched to Vocabulary from Classical Roots last spring and it's been a good fit for him. Previously he was doing Vocabulary Workshop, which I liked and he despised.
  6. Floradix is what I always use. The one time I strayed to a different brand I quickly regretted it and went back to Floradix. It comes in tablets now, in addition to the usual liquid, which is nice since the liquid is supposed to be used fairly quickly after it's opened.
  7. We've been battling a flea infestation right now due to one of our indoor cats escaping, it's a hard cycle to break. Everyone has covered the other things to do, but I just want to add that there have been some safety concerns with the Hartz drops flea medications. I know there have been with cats, but I'm not sure about dogs. We have several cats, so we switched to Blue Bottle Advanced flea control. It has the same active ingredients as Advantage II, but you can measure out your own dose (good for various sized animals) and is budget-friendly. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CMWHM6I/
  8. My son just saw that on the news tonight! He asked if I saw it and said every time he sees something about Epi-pen, he thinks of when he had to inject me last year after an accidental injection of pine nuts.
  9. 4 is still in the range of normal, so it's not something I would worry about. I used a bedwetting alarm (the Malem Alarm) when my oldest was about 6/7, per his request. He wanted to stop having to wear GoodNites and waking up wet. It took nearly the full 12 weeks that the directions talked about, but it did work. First he learned to wake up when he needed to pee, and then could eventually make it through the night without having to get up. Afterward my then 5 & 3 year olds asked for their turn with the alarm (because, siblings) and were dry within 3 and 1 weeks, respectively. I'm now using it with my 3.5 year old.
  10. I just bought it for that price on Prime day, I'm glad I did! I think the 8 qt would be a better size for our family, however I was willing to take a $69 chance on the medium one.
  11. Something like Roomba for the stairs. Stairba. Too many lifeforms in this house, so much crap collects on the stairs.
  12. We bought a Whirlpool Gold, I think it was a Quiet Partner III (but too lazy to get up and look), when we moved into our current house 10 years ago. I've been fairly satisfied with it, but it's at the end of life now and we will look into different brands for our next one. We're a large family (not that large when we originally bought it) and it is used 1-2 times a day. It's very quiet, my mother purchased one based on how much she like mine but hers was never as quiet. Items on the top rack don't seem to get as clean, anything beyond basic glasses. If we put bowls on the top rack never seem to get clean. I haven't been unhappy enough with it to replace it early (now it's starting to leak), but not happy enough with it to get another one. So overall, meh.
  13. A sheep's brain from Amazon. (Side-eyes the wine.) DS1 is thoroughly grossed out. If anyone can recommend a unit study on mammalian brains, that would be awesome. :leaving:
  14. W. Washington with a range of ages here. Accepting of all religious beliefs, but my kids may play too much Minecraft for it to be considered minimal screen time.
  15. Our house has 4 bedrooms, but right now one is still being used as an office (aka, junk room, room of doom). 3 boys share a room, 3 girls share a room. We are redoing the office and deciding how we want to use it as a bedroom, right now DS1 really wants it as sharing a room with his 3 year old brother is driving him up a wall.
  16. My kids start with an instrument (violin so far), and then they can change the next year if they want. I'm not letting them change every year though, so it has to be something they think through. DS1 changed from violin to viola, then was talking about changing to guitar next year but I nixed it for now, just because I don't want to keep buying more instruments. (We already have 4 sizes of violins, a viola, a cello, flute, & piccolo hanging out in the office.)
  17. Well, I went ahead and ordered it anyway. I've been wanting to try one and that's a good deal, I just hope it's fine for the 8 of us.
  18. Man, I'm so tempted, but I'm worried we would need the bigger size.
  19. I have the Mary Janes and they've held up great, I haven't tried the tennis shoes yet.
  20. We switched to Ting (from Sprint) 2 years ago and it's been a great fit for us. We save ~$100 a month from what our Sprint bill was, and we now have 3 iPhones (mine, DH's, and the "home" phone since we dropped the landline) and my iPad on Ting. It's the only bill that I look at every month and actually smile.
  21. I'd love to hear how it turns out for you! I recently started wearing my hair curly again and it's... scary. To be polite. I saw there's a Ouidad stylist near me, but I haven't called and set up an appointment. (I'm too embarrassed about how fried my hair is.)
  22. :grouphug: We recently had a surprise pregnancy (I'm 40) and it ended in a miscarriage. While I wasn't surprised and I've had previous losses, it's been horrible to go through this again. We don't think I have any clotting disorders (though I'm compound heterozygous for MTHFR), but I had a pulmonary embolism during my last pregnancy and was lucky to survive, spent the rest of the pregnancy on Lovenox. I know the loss was probably due to chromosomal issues (looking at you, old eggs) but it's hard.
  23. I get hypertrophic scars (which are similar to keloids, they just stay within the boundary of the initial wound) and keloids. When I got my earlobes pierced (professional piercer) I didn't have any problems. The cartilage part of my ear had more of an issue with scarring.
  24. I have a Trackr Bravo on my Kindle, it keeps getting lost in the house. (Thanks, toddler!) I chose it because it was small and I could put it on the corner of my Kindle case without it being too obtrusive. It's useless, though. The sound it makes is so low that I can't hear it stuffed between couch cushions in the same room. The battery died quickly, I've had to replace it twice in the year I've had it. I've never been able to successfully use it for its intended purpose. DH has a Tile tracker on his keys, it works much better. The sound is loud enough to be heard from other rooms, and he can also use the Tile itself to ding his iPad or phone, depending on what item he can find at the time.
  25. I just started with genealogy in the last month or two, it's been really interesting. On my dad's side I've traced back to one that has links (still need to see the lineage traced) to 2 of the Magna Carta security barons, which I thought was neat. Speaking of likely PPD or PP psychosis, I also traced back to my 8th great-grandmother on my maternal side. :( http://murderpedia.org/female.B/b/bishop-alice-martin.htm
