  1. No you are right. Actually it's just my oldest who will probably give us the biggest problem about pitching in but she is moving out in early June. The daughter who will be working the most is probably the most willing to help but I just know that she will be struggling with the hours of this job. She has severe clinical insomnia and also chronic migraines and struggles with getting up super early. She will be getting up at 5:30 which means a max of 4-5 hours hours of sleep for her. Of course she will have to cook when she moves out and actually she cooks for herself now but I'm hoping we can figure out these migraines before then. She will definitely pitch in but I don't want it to all fall on her. I'm most worried that my husband and oldest daughter won't help. My son won't be home many evenings but I told him today maybe he can help by making things earlier in the day for us to reheat or he can help with the shopping and housework.
  2. I am having major back surgery (involving nerves as well as replacing part of my sacrum) on May 17. It is out of state and we will be gone about a week. It is a long recovery. When I get home I cannot lift, bend, twist or reach for at least 2 months but maybe more. It will also be difficult to stand long. I have always cooked for my family. I was a SAHM as well as homeschooling and sometimes working part time. I was going to go back to work when my youngest started high school but that's when I started with my pain and other medical problems. Everyone in the house is over 18. My husband does not cook except for throwing in a pizza or heating up chili. My son and middle daughter both cook pretty well but nothing too complicated. My ds will sometimes cook himself lunch something like chicken breasts and rice or an omlet. He goes to community college this year. My middle daughter is away at school but lives in an apartment and will cook for herself when she has time. . My oldest does not cook and is moving out in early June. All 3 "kids" will be working full time when I get home from surgery. My middle daughter will have regular hours (7-3:30) She has severe insomnia plus she will be working outside a lot so she will be exhausted when she gets home. My son will often have a later shift (3-10) so he won't be home for dinner a lot. My oldest is a teacher and will be home pretty early but will not cook. I don't want to get it into details but I highly doubt she will be willing to help out. Even if she did she would be clueless and need help. My husband often works at home but I have the feeling he will place most of the responsibility on the kids which means it will probably fall to my middle daughter. I'm sure he will get fast food but I don't want to eat fast food for weeks. I am trying to plan some meals before I leave for surgery and possibly make some freezer meals, although we don't have a ton of freezer space. I want to make a few things ahead of time but it can't be too involved because of my current pain. I'm definitely not a great cook but I try to make dinner most nights of the week. We tend to eat a lot of chicken, pasta, tacos, a few casseroles and sometimes frozen pizza or that type of thing. We have an instant pot although I have only learned how to make a few successful meals in it. We don't have an outdoor grill but do have a tabletop one. We have a crock pot but my family doesn't really care for those meals. We don't eat a lot of red meat except for occasional hamburger in tacos or actual hamburger. They still aren't hige fans of vegetables. I would really appreciate some suggestions as the surgery got scheduled a few weeks before I thought it would and I don't want to worry about it after surgery. I'm hoping my husband will pitch in and then perhaps my son and daughter will each be responsible for one night. I don't want to leave it all to my daughter. Hopefully after a few weeks I can at least sit at the table and assist but can't do much. So please give me some easy recipes or quick dinner ideas. I want to have a list of easy recipes and also quick meal ideas (frozen pizza, frozen breaded shrimp etc) I don't want to eat unhealthy for that long but at first that isn't my biggest concern. Once in awhile I haven't been up to cooking so my husband and older daughter will say they will fend for themselves and then my son will have to figure out something to eat last minute and I often end up just having a bowl of cereal. My husband tends to just look out for himself and not even think that maybe I need something too. (On nights that I'm in too much pain to cook). I told him I will need help from everyone since I absolutely can't do anything at first. I have the feeling though he won't end up cooking. Of course my kids are perfectly capable but I want it to be a team effort.
  3. I'm sorry. Yes they do. My college daughter gets them and they affect her life so much. She has tried everything for the pain and prevention. It seems like anything the doctor gives her (especially meds that are meant for things like epilepsy or nerve pain) leave her with a horrible brain fog. Last year it was so bad that she had trouble learning anything. She already takes Propanol daily and then a rescue med when she actually starts to get one but now the doctor has her on a 3rd medication. So far it hasn't helped and it also puts her in a fog. She struggles so much with this and it breaks my heart. I've also had them bad throughout my life. They are awful. I hope you find relief. Actually Excedrin migraine helps me but I'm in so many other meds for other things so I can't take it.
  4. I was given a prescription for 50,000 once a week and it gave me horrible bone pain. It's a rare side effect. I still have low D so now I'm taking 5k a day without any problems. I will retest in 6 weeks. .
  5. I think you are right about a troll. I'm just super sensitive right now. I feel so out of control with my medical problems and having to take so many meds that make me gain weight. Plus I'm 50 😢 now which I'm having a hard time dealing with. What happened to my 30 something self who was in good shape and could wear whatever she wanted to? Anyway I love flannel shirts too. It's definitely me. I also like the soft waffle weave Henley style shirts that I used to wear under them on colder days. Have you seen any of those?
  6. Wow harsh. I'm actually not fat. I'm not as thin as I used to be and I so have love handles. I am unable to exercise a lot because I'm in a lot of pain. I'm having major back surgery in June and I also have an autoimmune disorder. Many of my meds cause weight gain.
  7. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you. I know that definitely people can just be small boned and not be too skinny at that size. The reverse is also true. I was actually surprised she wasn't taller than 5-4. I was guessing more like 5-8. I have only seen her in pictures and she always seemed taller and larger boned. I think everyone is different with how they carry their weight. I'm 5-6 and I'm middle boned but even when I weighed 110-115 in my early 30's I couldn't wear a size 4. Actually I was too skinny for me and felt better 5-10 pounds heavier. My daughter is definitely small boned and tiny. She has probably gained 5 pounds in the past few years but is still only 105. She just now fits into a size 4. Everyone is so different. I also know people who are heavier than me but wear a smaller size. I just carry my weight in different areas. I just don't like it when the media will say so and so is a size 4 or whatever after that person has lost a lot of weight but it still doesn't seem possible that they really are that size. Maybe it is vanity sizing but it seems pretty dramatic. I've seen it over and over again with celebrities. I think it sends the wrong message to people, especially teens. They just need to be honest. It's great for someone to lose that much weight but her going down to a size 8 or size 6 is still incredible. Regardless I won't watch the show and I can't stand her or her family.
  8. Not that I really care but I have no clue how she could be a size 4 unless it's vanity sizing. My dd is 5-1 and maybe 105 and she is a size 4. I never watched the show either but I've seen pictures of her before andi don't t remember her being short. Of course there are size 2 models who are very tall but for the most part it would be hard for an adult who isn't short to be that size. For a short time my 5-10 daughter was about 110 and a size 4 but she was way underweight at the time but she was only 18.
  9. When you see the topic of classes meant for 50-55 and up designated as senior classes and you are 50. I'm not saying anything bad about the other post but it just caught me off guard that I might be considered a senior citizen to some.
  10. That's a good point and really varies by area too. My daughter didn't start playing hockey until 17, which is considered pretty late. She didn't even know how to skate but it was her dream to learn how to play hockey. She had been through a lot medically and we wanted to do this for her. So she had to learn how to skate and take the "learn how to play hockey" class too, which was full of 6-12 year old boys :(. She still needed full equipment but at 5-9 it was hard to find used equipment that wasn't nasty. So we bought the cheapest possible as well as skates but it was still several hundred dollars. It would have been wonderful if we had an outdoor rink that she could have played on instead. Luckily a high school coach saw her in this class every week and invited her to join their team. It was an open team (no tryouts) so she could join. I believe it cost a few thousand dollars. Unfortunately she could only be on there one year since she turned 18. She found a women's 18+ team that was not very competitive. They got a good price on ice times and practiced twice a week and played other teams twice a week. I think we probably payed about $1000 for that season. The next year she found a 19u travel team. We spent a lot more on that team due to ice time, paying for coaches, travel etc and she needed better equipment. It was 50 miles one way to the rink so gas alone for practices was expensive but we don't have that much available for us especially for girls. She went away to college and thought her hockey career would have to end but her college has a club team. They play other colleges and it is still pretty competitive but lower than division 3. Her fees are pretty low since it is school sponsored. It think she pays less than $500 which is incredible since ice costs so much. She goes to a school in Wisconsin. Most of the girls live up in Wisconsin or Minnesota. They had rinks at their high school and many in their neighborhood ponds etc. They learned to play as soon as they could walk. It was very inexpensive to learn that way.
  11. My kids have played several sports. The most expensive was hockey but baseball wasn't far behind. It was pretty inexpensive when my son was in the rec league but once he got older and was on a tournament team it was a lot more expensive. He didn't even play on team with an insane schedule. He practiced every day and had tournaments Friday through Sunday. They only had a few out of state. The most expensive part was the private lessons and off season training. Ice skating is also expensive and gymnastics once they get past the early rec level. My daughters both danced. Again the early years were inexpensive but once my oldest was en pointe the shoes were very expensive and needed to be replaced very often. Also at that level she was dancing almost daily even though she didn't dance for a competition studio. Most of the rec teams they were on for any sport were pretty inexpensive: Soccer, basketball but they did that when they were younger. When my kids were a bit older the least expensive was bowling and karate. Running (track and cross country) was inexpensive except for getting new shoes quite often.
  12. My son went to public high school. They graded PE and it counted towards the GPA. Your son sounds like he did way more than they did in my son's class. Many of the kids put in minimal effort and still got A's.
  13. Thanks for letting me know. I was wondering why I didn't see one on here.
  14. I'm not sure if I posted about this but I started a new chronic pain social group if anyone is interested in joining. It is a public group. I suffer from chronic pain and I've seen others on here that do as well. I'm struggling and I'm sure anyone else who has this is too. Maybe we can help each other.
  15. I have similar symptoms. I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and ankylosing spondylitis. My back hurts too though. Just a thought to be tested for AS especially if you are extra stiff in the morning.
  16. Try again. I figured that part out. Please let me know if it works
  17. So strange. I wish I could help.
  18. I went ahead and did this. I hope you can get in.
  19. Yes just two days ago. I've been waiting for an important call from a doctor's office to set up a surgical consultation I've been waiting 2 months for this call but knew to expect it soon. I thought when I got the call I would just be setting up an appointment. Of course I was in the middle of shopping when I got it. I told the nurse I was in a grocery store. She asked if she should call back but I knew if I did this it would probably be another week before I got another call. So I found what I thought was a quiet corner and talked to her. I didn't have time to just leave the store. Well she started to ask me questions but by the time I realized how many questions and how personal they were there was nothing I can do. My pain is in the lower back and tailbone but it can affect other parts of the body. She asked very personal questions and I tried to answer as quietly as possible but allowing her to hear me. I thought I was alone but realized I had been blocking someone from getting something and by the look on his face I'm pretty sure he heard me. He must have been very confused. I'm not one to usually talk on the phone in stores but I was near the back of the store with a full cart and didn't have time to leave or even find the restroom. It was pretty embarrassing.
  20. I'm looking into a few things since some people aren't getting the private messages to join. I will try to update tomorrow.
  21. My daughters both grew until 15. One grew until 17. My oldest dd is only 5-1 and some of her pre-k students are almost as tall as her :). My other dd is 5-10 and my son is 6 feet so I don't know how she ended up so short. She is 24 and still gets mistaken for someone in high school.
  22. I was just going to say American Eagle. Even though my son isn't as tall as yours it's still hard to find something for a 28 waist and 32 inseam. My dd also gets her jeans there. She is 5-10. She used to be super skinny so it was hard to find extra longs in a size 4. Now she is an 8 so it's easier.
  23. I'm sorry. This is so frustrating. I'm trying to get help from admin or someone else. It does not show you as a member. I know I invited you and like you said you got the invite. It doesn't make sense. For some reason posts don't show up under "posts" but group discussion.
