  1. on the Roman Arena because they are discontinuing it. I just ordered one for my boys and one for my nephews. I wasn't aware it was being discontinued until today.
  2. That's alright. I laugh at the situation, too. It goes along with the stove. The knob to the big burner is broken. I also can't can on it because the hood is only about 20 inches above the stove. The refrigerator will freeze my fruit even on the lowest setting. We've been living here a year and still haven't decided whether to fix what is broken, redo the whole kitchen (which is very poorly laid out), or live with it until we are transferred again.
  3. Romodel my 30+ year old kitchen. I have to turn my oven on with a screwdriver.
  4. All the dirt was hard to get up, but I am convinced some of it was grout. I was able to get a lot of dirt up, but there were some spots that nothing would get up - 4 or 5 different kinds of cleaners, scrubbing, soaking, scraping. After awhile I noticed that the spots had that wouldn't come clean had a shiny coat over them.
  5. Nope. I usually tell him what I have planned, but he isn't into shopping. He did suggest getting the kids a Wii for three years running (starting when my oldest was 3). I finally got it for him for his birthday.:tongue_smilie:
  6. Okay, I was looking for the crockpot thread, because I wanted to know what all the fuss was about when I found this quote telling everyone to get a thicker skin: Good point. And in addition: if you decide to READ a thread about, say, HEALTH CARE, you ought to go in realizing that there will be strong opinions in it. If that bothers you, read one about crockpots or something instead. SWB Just struck me funny.
  7. At our previous house the grout and tile were "very" dirty. The tile was - rough, for lack of a better description. There was dirt in the pits and against the jagged edges. I spent 30 hours scrubbing the floor when we first moved in. I finally realized the previous owner had sealed the tile without cleaning the floor. The dirt on the tiles was grout.:glare: If I was going to install tile flooring, I would get one of the smooth tiles, used a dark grout, and make sure it was clean before sealing it. I do love tile flooring, but I'm partial to wood.
  8. :001_huh: I don't consider myself to be particularly well-traveled. I've been on three continents (although that may be a loaded comment after the recent thread on what makes a continent). I spent a semester in one country. A summer in another. I am very familiar with half a dozen states and have visited a good twenty more. I would like to spend more time exploring the world. Because of my studies, interests, and friendships, I have spent a lot of time with people of other cultures. And politically speaking, I am about two steps to the right of Ronald Reagan. ETA: I should mention that the most well-traveled member of our families is my BIL who is very conservative. The second, though, is my Dh's sister (a very warm and lovely woman) who is just as liberal as I am conservative. I just can't think what reasoning the above quote would be based on.
  9. The first year we were married, I listed several things we could get for Dh's parents. He vetoed all of them. I said, "Okay, let's go shopping." We walked the entire mall, and he couldn't come up with one gift idea. Christams was my responsibility for the next 7 years. I think the meals sound wonderful. Your Dh will probably think so, too, once he has thought about it. Maybe you could get him a nice microwavable container for heating things up as a wrapable gift. ETA: And think of the money you'd be saving him if he has been eating fastfood/frozen dinners. He could buy himself any number of "things" with the money he'd save.
  10. I did one of the make-your-own ones about 12 years ago. I think we played it one time. It is different and not as fun (imo) as the real Monopoly. But... my kids found it the last time we were at my Mom's house, and it was fun looking at it. My dad and I played with the kids one morning. I think the kids might like to play it themselves in a couple years.
  11. Posts where veteran members respond with something like "We've already had that discussion. Search the forums for your answer." Many people have joined the forum since I started reading a year ago. It is just possible they may have something new to contribute to the discussion. ETA: Just wanted to say, Audrey, that I was typing when you posted. This was NOT in response to your post. Just a different point of view.
  12. That was not nice. I googled that and just the little blip I read made me want to throw up. Fortunately, northern Iowa and Borneo don't have a lot in common.:)
  13. You know, I really hope he's right - caterpillars would be much better than spiders. But I'm not getting close enough to check. Maybe Dh and the kids could take a look tomorrow when he gets home from work. He got home too late tonight to do anything about it today.
  14. I can't call a local university. They might want me to leave it there.
  15. I looked. :ack2: I'd have to fumigate or cut down trees or whatever it took to get rid of them. I am not into spiders.
  16. I've linked to the picture on the blog. PLEASE look and tell me what this is! http://exploringwiththemeriwethers.blogspot.com/
  17. Sorry, as soon as my husband gets home that thing is getting mown down. I tolerate nature if it is the kind I like. Spider webbing all over the yard - no way.
  18. I was going to but noticed on my way out that the battery needs charging. As soon as it is ready to go, I'll take a picture.
