  1. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We have been doing geography and civics/community for K this year and I was planning to do ancients next year. She's very interested in space so I might go with big bang through the establishment of civilizations and then cover those early civilizations in more of a cultural way.
  2. Has anyone tried HMH Science Dimensions? I can't find any reviews from homeschoolers. Thanks!
  3. Do you have any recommendations for a history curriculum for a highly sensitive 1st grade student? I really need something with no descriptions of violence. Absolutely no specifics about people being beheaded, etc. I can't do the summarizing as I go with her because my daughter pulls her school books off the shelf and rereads the parts we've read together. We prefer secular materials and would like to work chronologically. Thank you so much for any suggestions.
  4. Thank you for the suggestions. We will do specific SAT prep later in high school. I have often heard that having a goal in mind helps to narrow down your curricula choices, which is why I mention it. I'll look into Easy Grammar.
  5. I need help finding a grammar program at the last minute. I purchased the online version of Warriner's Third Course only to find there is no answer key. Unfortunately, I can't be sure that I'll be able to correct my daughter's work accurately without one. The online version is virtually unusable anyways so I'd like to pick something else. She's going into 9th grade. Her last focused grammar study was JAG in 6th, but she does not want to repeat that with AG. Since then she's been learning grammar through her Latin program. I don't think she's solid enough on it to skip it entirely. My main concern is that I'd like to see her prepared for her SATs. I don't need a writing component, she is studying that elsewhere. Thank you for any suggestions!
  6. My daughter has been working through the original Writing Strands series for the past few years but, to be honest, I don't feel confident about her ability to write an academic paper at this point (8th grade). She just finished level 5 and she can write fiction wonderfully. For next year, I'd like to switch to WWS. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm wondering whether it's necessary to start at level 1 or if we can start at one of the higher levels.
