  1. I am very interested in both the Classical Composition and the Classical Writing programs. I can't however find any good comparisons between the two. I realize that initially a difference was that Classical Writing did not have a student workbook which made the program harder to implement. Is anyone familiar with either program, or better yet, both programs? I would love a comparison of the two. Laura
  2. Nan, My daughter also just read Benjamin Franklin's autobiography. We loved your son's essay as well. Very well done. Laura
  3. Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I will have my son take a look at it. Laura
  4. I just read at the College Board website: If you missed taking the PSAT/NMSQT in your junior year, you may still be able to enter programs conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation if you meet other requirements to enter the NMSC competitions (published in the Official Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT and on NMSC's website ). To request information about alternate testing after the October PSAT/NMSQT administration, write to NMSC as soon as possible but no later than March 1 following the PSAT/NMSQT administration that was missed. Your letter must be postmarked on or before March 1 for your request to be considered. The website address where I found this is: http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/about/missedtest.html Hope this helps. Laura
  5. We just got our AP results in the mail. If you have waited this long, I wouldn't waste the $8.00 at this point. We live in Annapolis, MD - much farther east than the west coast. He was delighted with his score on the AP Chemistry test.
  6. My daughter listened to the American history lectures last year, and they are anything but boring. Although they are geared for a child, I found them to be very interesting. Both my daugher and I learned a lot of history last year. As a matter of fact, I am still thinking about different things that came up in the lectures. One aspect of the lectures that set them apart from other prerecorded history lectures or stories is that they are live lectures and children are actively participating in them. Because of this, my child was more engaged in the lectures than I think she would have been. Although my child did not participate in the lectures herself, she did hear the other children who were participating and that made it seem interactive. I would highly recommend trying the course. Since you can cancel and even get some refund, I feel that it is worth a try. I plan to listen to his lectures again this year with more of my children. Laura
