Plot twist: I showed my husband my drawing and mentioned that I couldn't figure out how it is still there. Turns out he has been putting bricks/small rocks in front of the wheels. In my disgust at the item I didn't pay attention. I had been working under the assumption that he heard my plotting and understood that it wasn't a harmless rant, but an actual plot to rid the world of the thing. The marriage survived. I will be paying closer attention to it and the weather in the future to ensure that it is not obstructed when it is windy. I will be texting the offspring and making sure they know no one is to mess with the thing, including cleaning and helping keep it safe. This will probably be interpreted as "protect the thing at all costs" because that is how things seem to work here.

Ok so I spent time this evening working on a sketch of the item (the brown thing) and where I have put it in an attempt to catch maximum wind. Yes, I added wheels. I was not accepted to art school.

Soo someone bought something that goes outside. Its so ugly I tried to get a picture but my camera broke. I grimaced and placed it outside in an area that is windy and blows everything I want to keep off our property, through the neighborhood, out to the highway and a few states away. Yesterday, for example, I spent more time than I care to admit chasing a wanted item down that wasn't directly in that area and still got caught up. I am beyond frustrated that this thing hasn't moved even an inch and I miss the days before cameras everywhere, I would play the part of the wind and help it along, with a baseball bat, or an ax I reclaimed from a teen bedroom.

This is everyone here. We prefer backpacks. I am not sure we have any suitcases to compare with though.

They never wanted him in the trailer on the property or currently don't want him in the trailer on the property. I am trying to understand the timeline better, thanks

It is baffling that they would expect someone to live without running water and sewage.
-
Ok I find this baffling. What do I believe would work? Well, I think we need a time machine to go back in time at least 30 years, then we get there we need a miracle to get funding for quality programs for autistic adults that ensure no waiting lists. Then we need another miracle for funding for treatment programs specifically for autistic adults with addiction. These need to be followed carefully and there needs to be ongoing studies for what works and what doesn't. We need to fund practical research that helps adults. Once we have gone back and ensured those things are done we would be able to pull from 30 years of data and would be in a better place to know what helps long-term and what doesn't.
-
I am baffled that the other residents are angry that someone living there without running water or sewage would need to access running water and sewage and is doing so. As above it sounds like he is a tenant and has rights. I would think that access to running water is a right.

Addiction isn't a choice. Autism isn't a choice. Services for addiction for those who don't have means are generally not the best. Services for adults with autism generally suck. Finding an addiction treatment that can meet the needs of an autistic is like finding a unicorn. I gave a lot of suggestions in the previous thread. Complaining and demanding he change without supports will not work. An ultimatum will not work. If they want to help him then they need to all be on the phone calling every local and state resource. They need to help him and make those phone calls, fill out paperwork, help him schedule and get to appointments. If they have not spent as much time calling places that could provide him help as they have calling people to gossip then they do not care about him and his well being. I will forever stand by that. He needs help. The help he needs is something that will take a lot of work by multiple people to get. They sound like a bunch of gossiping old women who care about only themselves and think that disabilities are choices. I am so glad that I am not related to them. I hope that when disability strikes them that they are met with more.compassion and tangible help than they are willing to provide.

Look for model train clubs. They work at a specific scale so you will want to find the one that is closest to your scale. While they may have a bit more emphasis on the trains, the terrain, buildings, and all the other details play a huge part.

April showers bring May flowers. The monthly gardening thread.

I have moved so much dirt. I am not sure if the planters will ever be filled. -
I had had at least one in CC since 2018. There has been a huge shift since the pandemic. I cannot day it was the pandemic as much as I can say it was that the pandemic seemed to have been the proverbial straw the broke the camel's back. The ones who started in 2018 had some of the best teachers I could have asked for. They got so much from the instruction, built relationships, and had a great experience in every way. By comparison, this year was a class that only met a few times, the teacher couldn't answer content related questions and suggested Google. Despite upwards of 12 hours a day trying to figure out and learn the content they got a B because they bombed the final essay that wasn't really related to the subject matter they were trying to learn. Had the class been better organized they would have aced the essay, the essasy would be in their ability. Due to the extreme stress and anxiety that came from having to not only self teach college level material, they didn't have the time or resources to put in towards the essay. Went something like this: This is a class. Google to learn the content. Your final is an essay. The amount of self teaching required was beyond acceptable. The final essay didn't reflect the content of the course or what was expected to be learned from the course description.

My white tulips are out and look incredible. I am not sure what happened to my lavender tulips but the only two looked horrible. The purple and black tulips are just starting to send up buds. I have some tulips of unknown origins still waiting. My hardscaping planning of the corner of the yard is basically me looking at the area and staring at it without any inspiration. Still. I am leaning towards maybe a covered something with TBD features, layouts and things. -
I didn't say you ate Mangoes for your health, I said the healthier option should be cheaper, ie the option that doesn't have sugar. It is crazy to me that in the US it costs more to avoid something that has links to long term health issues. When it comes to dried fruit, it's not just the financial part of it, I spent a lot of time trying to find dried fruit without sugar. I went to several grocery stores near me without much luck and finally turned to the internet to find the dried fruit I wanted.

Healthy options should never be considered a splurge. Buying mangos without sugar should be the norm, not the exception.

I'm sorry, but WHAT?! I haven't bought cereal in years so I know Iam out of the loop. I am shocked by the price and that it is only 8 servings. The box must be tiny. And 8 servings of cereal is like first breakfast for teenagers.

There are special nutritional needs here. Getting foods that don't make me sick costs a mint and I have gastroparesis and cannot eat nearly as much as most people. Sadly, we have the slimy ham here, along with all the other low quality foods and, yes, the higher quality foods are insanely priced and viewed as frivolous by many. I joke about being accidentally vegan because of egg and milk allergies in the house plus the cost for quality meats. My husband spent over $100 on a tiny ham last year for me for the holidays. A certain teenager commented about the entire ham being almost enough for a sandwich. He wasn't wrong. He didn't get said sandwich, but that doesn't mean he was wrong. I keep a vegan protein shake, a baby food pouch, and a protein bar with me at work. The baby food pouch is for my dietary needs, and the ones that are not loaded with sugars are insanely expenses. The protein shakes that don't make me sick are also expensive. Protein bars make me sick and are for times I absolutely cannot make it through the day. They are only slightly better than my only option at work, vending machine food. My work and my husband's work have both gotten rid of their cafeterias. The only microwaves left are in the offices of those who have brought their own. There are rumors that a certain department has a small fridge but I haven't been able to confirm this. The only reliable food option is a vending machine full of candy selling for 3x the cost of the grocery store. There are no food options one can walk to during lunch. On very rare occasions my work will have a food truck in the parking lot, it is so popular there isn't enough time to wait in line and eat the food. Slightly more often a fast food chain sets up a popup and sells premade sandwiches from an insulated bag. The closest location for that chain is almost 30 minutes away, that means those sandwiches are at least 30 minute old. Outside of the insulation in the bag, there is no temperature control. Sounds like a good way to get food poisoning.

This is just, wow. Buying groceries is now splurging. I guess I am doing the budget wrong since I have groceries under essentials, along with a roof and clean water. https://www.businessinsider.com/millennials-gen-z-splurge-groceries-spending-inflation-gen-z-boomers-2024-4?amp&utm_source=reddit.com

CAT bonds, reinsurance, state insurers of last resort
SHP replied to prairiewindmomma's topic in The Chat Board
Ok, while we do get into double digit negative temps, they don’t hold very long so maybe this doesn't work there, but don't people use heat tape and similar things for their pipes to prevent that? Or am I just far too bored with standard home improvement projects, like painting, and am an anomaly? I read about the Great Lakes coasts as an adult and was shocked. I agree about the last 40 years being wasted. -
Does anyone use a heated mattress pad for pain relief rather than warmth? My heating pad is my BFF but I want something bigger.

CAT bonds, reinsurance, state insurers of last resort

I didn't mean a mass exodus, no place can handle that. I meant in general. Yes there is a housing crisis everywhere, but if the choice is someplace with such a high risk that insurance companies are leaving and someplace with lower risk I, personally, would prefer the lower risk option. A house is a huge investment and I just cannot imagine taking that gamble. I might be desensitized to it, but I don't put snowmaggedon in the same category since usually it doesn't wipe out entire neighborhoods. Tornadoes can, but even that seems to be a lower risk. -

I have been following for a while and find myself struggling with words. I don't live in an area that is currently impacted but I am keeping a very close watch and am more than open to relocation if needed. Building and choosing to live in fire zones is just something I cannot imagine, but that is likely due to childhood trauma from being in a house fire and getting physically ill seeing video coverage of the fires. My trauma aside, I feel we need to look at people and what drives them to stay vs moving to someplace with less risk so we can address those concerns and work towards change. I am sure studies have been done, if anyone knows any I would like to read the. I don't think there is an easy solution. Eventually, people will have to move, they will not be able to afford to stay. I am still amazed more haven't moved already. -
This was the case here. I wanted to get the habit established first then worried about quality. Buy what you will eat first.

It doesn't make my legs hot, granted I haven't had a chance to really test them all day in 100°+ temps. The calf part is pretty forgiving and really doesn't go up all that high. It stays in place and gives support, which is something I need, but isn't tight. I couldn't handle anything tight fitting and at this point I probably couldn't handle something that is super loose and always falling down either. My calves are not huge, but I would say they are above average.
