  1. I would say to get the next guide when you choose to do cursive :)
  2. Ok, so I've searched for what the test for 4th grade writing assessments is like..... I know we do a "OAKS" test here, but then we have the writing assessment part, too. I've just enrolled my son in a Charter Montessori, so I'm kinda playing catch up in the writing department..... I can find spots that I'm suppose to click on, to see a sample, but it's not even a "dead link"... clicking on it goes now where... Anyone have ideas? Samples? He's sick today.... so I can practice with him.... lucky him!! :)
  3. If you're not reselling the book, you could cut out and scan the pages to a .pdf and then copy as needed, perhaps even copy with the problems enlarged. Not sure what that'd be called on your printer. I think I'll do them orally as I like to have him think through things in his head without writing them down... :) :)
  4. So to use these, as they are meant, you do them orally? I guess that's how I was understanding them. :)
  5. HI :) I'm looking for ways to use the Mental Math with Singapore; wondering how others are doing this.... I'm having my son do Singapore Math at school and doing the lessons/school part at home. (Kinda flip-flopped from how you'd do it if it was the school's curriculum) We've been doing Singapore for a long time but I totally have neglected the Mental Math. Thanks!!
  6. My daughter, in 9th at a Public School in Oregon, works about an hour or so on homework each day and a bit on the weekend. This depends on how much she is suppose to be doing. Our school is good, but there are many classes that are band, Labs... etc. that don't have homework. She also has dance each day, except for Sun/Mon and is on the Dance Team. That's around 10hrs a week and so she's pretty busy. She loves public school and would kill me if I tried to bring her back. For us, we've found that doing the accelerated/honors courses are the way to go. You've got kids who care in there and the work is better concentrated.
  7. Well, I'd do... Saxon Math 5/4 M-F every week with the Math Challenge on Saturdays. (Does he like it??) Ed Zuccaro Math Challenge every other F Veritas Press Literature program Grade 3 M-F Read or listen to the books together, and do any work orally. In the car might be a good time... ARTistic Pursuits T Have this in the Opt Basket Time Traveller Art Th Have this in the Opt Basket Veritas Press Bible Program Grade 3 M-F (since we are UU, this could be dropped since we also get quite a bit of Bible with the History program, but I can't commit to dropping anything). Read this together as a morning or evening devotional. Veritas Press History Program Grade 3 M - F Just have him listen to this... or color while listening to the work. (Or did you do the online part??) Shurley English Grammar 3 M,T,Th,F Cut back to just listening to the jingles and working together on a few sentences a week. Adam Andrews' Center for Literary Analysis W (Ummm.... not really familiar, but can you use the info while you're discussing the lit from the other program?? Otherwise, I'd totally scratch one and just concentrate on one program) Phonetic Zoo B M, W, F (no need to rush... how is this going??) Latin for Children A M-F How is his memory? My son is listening to the latin, and I have him chant with the children, but only writing parts of the lessons as we go through a few times. We'll do B next year, hopefully ;) I think I'll keep Latin up through the summers and might do an online program with him next, as I'm really just not learning it ;( My own geography program M-F (this one isn't able to be dropped. It's too much fun!) I would see if you can just go slow... do this for fun... maybe during snack time or something... Draw outside when the weather permits.... Simple Homeschool science (online) M & Th Personally I'd scratch this... Not sure how much you paid. I got the School Bus Science thing.... and my son is 9yrs old. It's amazing how much they can learn from watching :) Scholastic News for current events T (Opt basket Optional basket is great to tote around with you. :) Seriously, he probably needs a breather :) Nothing says you can't stagger subjects at least with 3 start/stops if you're going through the summer.... School is suppose to be part learning to learn... and a lot of fun :) And then some more work :)
  8. I would look at Montessori schools, before Waldorf. I would also look at home tutoring her with Susan Barton's program for reading. Only doing one thing with her might work well for you. :)
  9. Wanna help me? I want a couple of things and don't know how to. I am feeling stupid :(
  10. I was thinking... wouldn't it be nice to have 2012 be headed with yellow... and 2013 headed with blue... etc. Might make it so threads aren't resurrected as easily... at least if one didn't mean to... On another note, is it possible to change the way the background looks??? The pure white is a bit hard on the eyes.... Just a thought :) (and maybe already possible?)
  11. This is what I've been thinking about lately. Makes me want to make an audio library to pull from for study. I think the reason that CC works for some is that it's easier to get it done if you just do it. Many of us think it'd be great to do our own memory system to sequentially learn things, but not many of us actually put it into practice. So, "get it done" versus the theory of "better but not done"... well, sometimes get it done wins.... I think I'm going to spend the time to put a memory system for my son to do over Christmas.... UGH.... and that's when I think, "Gosh, just having him memorize CC's material would be easier" :) We'll see if easier or more relative.... wins :)
  12. I'm just wondering if I can start another name... I'm not sure how I like all of this linked to me.... Drank lots of coffee and looked around :) I'd like a cool name, anyway... than I can start over ;) I can't remember who so many people are, that have changed their names....... So :)
  13. Pretty much everyone has Oral Herpes, right?? If that's true... there's some immunity... You don't have to even break out to have it... at least that's what I heard... didn't look it up... :)
  14. Who's using the iPad program for Hands on Equations?? I'm thinking of it for my 9yr old... :)
  15. You funny person :) Didn't you know... cats climb trees? Haha... seriously, I thought the same as you about my cats and that I'd be able to make it so they don't... Now I just try for them not killing themselves or breaking too many ornaments. I'd forgo the tree.. or put it on the front porch, but my husband insists... so I clean up ornaments and freak that the cat will electrocute himself chewing on the wires...
  16. To me, it usually sounds like a "Catholic name" to have Marie or Maria anything... But, my friend was Maria Joy growing up.... :)
  17. I second Kelly's response... Good raw bones if she won't do raw... and the grain free. I'd look for some shampoo for yeast issues...and also for if the dog has fleas. If sores get infected it's a problem. I WOULD NOT put tea tree directly on, but perhaps a shampoo with some healing agent. I'm not really into "Oatmeal" shampoos, but would look for some natural thing. Is she itching?? The vet offers some shampoos to help...
  18. I thought I should.... months before I was willing. I finally took her in and they thought.... a few hundred more and possibly I'd have her some more years. My husband had to take the then dying cat on the weekend to the emergency vet to have her put down. Seriously... I should have saved heartache/pain (hers) and added sadness and had it done months before... I was out over $1000 for the year... I felt guilty cuz I had brought a new kitty from the humane society that may or may not have made my cat sick... I felt like I killed her with my new cat... :( Put her down... it's sad, but then you move on and you're glad they're not in pain :( So sorry :(
  19. Whole Foods has a non-Gmo Pie crust... Starts with... an "I" that is great :)
