So when you say "Messes with your Memory" are you suggesting to add another oil to combat that? Or it's just a side effect that you have to accept, if you want Lavendar? I sent him to school with some lavender EO today... But memory isn't a problem at this school... it's the aggressive issue that I'm most concerned with. Of course I want magic, but I'll settle for better :)

Well, they did cut Calculus this year.... Does that make you feel better?? :) -
Trying to figure out what I should do with my 10yr old. He's done with Pre-Algebra and I need something to stretch him for this coming year. He's for sure not a genius. Just good at math. My step-daughter actually taught herself math as she went through PS and he's somewhat like her. I think that he just "gets" the language of math. (We've done Singapore up till now) For Algebra, what do you think would be good to follow Singapore? Or maybe I should just give him an extra year and do geometry. He likes to explain positives and negatives... I think that he'd do fine! I'm looking at dvds, online, or by ourselves. Anything but... Saxon :)

A kinder could start with Handwriting Without Tears/Cursive for 3rd graders. Very simple. I started my son on it. I'd also get the 1st grade (or 2nd) for printing. I'd show her how to make both, but do practice only with cursive. I would look at the new 2nd grade cursive book.... to see that would be better than the 3rd for her. The letters in the cursive book aren't smaller than a regular manuscript book... Also.. get the Teacher's book. It's worth it. If I were doing it again, I might do an extra student book for each one, and after using it for the year... sell the extra student and Teacher book. It's kinda pricey shipping... :)

Hi There ;) I'd love to get a review of the books you all have enjoyed for Year 5 students while you're doing SOTW II :) My son is going to a Public Montessori, probably, and they are doing Middle Ages next year. I usually put a list of books together, that my husband reads through during their nightly reading. I'm also pulling from the Latin Centered Curriculum. Movies that are appropriate as well as short videos are great, too. Thanks!! :)

I'd love to hear how those of you who have been in Montessori Charter (Public) as well as Montessori Private Schools like it. I'd like to hear about the dynamics/atmosphere of the room and how respect between the Teacher and Students is. Have you seen children who are compliant and can work quietly? I have my son in a Public Charter Montessori. While I like the teacher, the students are ill-behaved. It's pulling from the town schools, and they students don't have a reason to be well behaved and there are few consequences. :( Stories and Things to think about please :)

AOP after Singapore 6A?
SonshineLearner replied to SonshineLearner's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Thanks :) Hard to figure out what to do for math. I love Arithmetic, but when you get to Algebra, I hate to be choosing. :) It's hard because I don't want to skip around.... But maybe that's not really too much of a problem. I'm going to look at the www.mathrelief.com you suggetsed.... -
HI :) I'm looking at options for after 6A (or maybe 6B). My son will be 10 this summer and I'm lining up what he'll do for Algebra/Pre-Algebra. He's fairly solid with his math concepts and tends to understand math without too much instruction. I'm looking at AOP or something similar. We'd like for my husband to teach him at night, and then he'll do his lesson at school the next day. This is agreeable to his school. He totally thinks like Singapore Math and intuitively understands the problems so far. (He'll soon finish 4B) He also reads Beast Academy, though below grade level, for fun. Really wanting a program that he can use through Highschool. We're also thinking about dual credit with some college for highschool. Thanks for ideas :)

Sarah and David for Hebrew. We swapped out a couple of the books for ones I preferred. They are easy to do and learn.... Nice :) World History Encyclopedia.... All the Sir Cumference Books.. (Living Math) and the Pythagorus books about Ratio and Angles... ] -
Doing Montessori for the first few years and gliding into Classical is what some schools do. I totally think you can do a Montessori/Living Books type education... pretty much all the way through. Take it easy when they're little.... enjoy lots of exploration... do "work"... model how to do things.... Enjoy!! :)

Hi There, I'm loving having my son do something without me for a few hours a day. He's in fourth and my last one at home.... His class doesn't have to do as much "school work" as we were doing before... And I kinda had him "Unschooling", but for math and other subjects, I just guess I was always throwing books at him... I'm wanting to do a program with him, teaching him "lessons" at home and then having him do the work at school. For instance... his school math takes about ten minutes.... and he's use to working for at least 30minutes or so. So I'm teaching him the math "teacher part" at home and he'll do the "school work" at school. Since we hadn't concentrated on Spelling, because I taught him kinda "organically" before, I drug out the spelling book to start going through it with him. (Don't want the incorrect spelling imprinted in his brain) He's pretty decent because of the reading he's done... I'm looking at the WWE Level 3 from SWB for his writing. He's doing writing at school, but I'm not sure he's clued in enough to absorb it. His writing is.... not there. (BUT, his math is the top level....!!! So it's a strengths/weaknesses thing) And I haven't really tried to get him to write...... Anyone after school for their children to do ... at school?? His teacher is really smart and I like her... 4th grade is transitional and more workbooks... The afternoon is more community learning... I want him to work hard! I'm planning on igniting the fire behind the "Learn Latin" in a few weeks!! We have Latin For Children, and I hope to mostly get through it before Sept. He can do Latin work as a "Language Arts" job during his day at school. (Hope he has the same teacher; she's flexible) :)

I have audio on an iPhone App that I want to download to something like iTunes or something so I can move things around. Any ideas?
