  1. I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a review for Vocabulary from Classical Roots. My 14 year old said she wants more vocabulary and this is only curriculum I know. Is it good? Is there a better one out there? Any advice would be most helpful! Thanks!
  2. I get Cookie Mag and like it...and as a family we receive Stone Soup and love it!
  3. We do four days...and depending on the season they are: M, T, W, TH; or when ice skating starts: M, T, W, F. I think it was too rushed and stressed when we were trying to squeeze in schooling before activities. And once we get going with our work, we don't seem to notice that extra hour. My daughter loves having a day off when "everyone else" has to go to school, too. :)
  4. I haven't read all the negative reviews, but I think I know what you mean about the stuff you don't like. I almost switched this year but decided to stick with it for one more year. And I really like Saxon 54...my daughter is liking it much better, too. It seems much more fluid and logical.
  5. So we have just started using Junior AG this year, my daughter is in 4th grade, and it's the best switch we've ever made! It is the first time I've heard her say, "Yay! Grammar time!" She is doing really well and I think she is going to love moving to AG when she is older. Thanks for all who recommended this! We are so very happy!
  6. Everyone, thank you for your responses! I am going to look more thoroughly into CW and WT. I am waiting to start these until we finish the 11 weeks of AG. So we have time...and now I have such good advice to go forth with! Thanks again!
  7. Oh thank you! I am new to the forum and had no idea what people were saying most of the time!!
  8. Hello! We've been using Writing Strands and it's not a great fit. I am thinking of switching to Classical Writing...but do I need to start with Aesop? She is a very good writer, so I don't want her to get bored. But do they run sequentially? Also, we usually use Wordly Wise for vocab. Would it be overkill to do Wordly Wise and Classical Writing together? Any advice would be appreciated!
  9. Good to know! Does the Review and Reinforcement books come with the Junior curriculum? I see that you can buy the High School Reinforcements, but do I need to do that for Junior? Thanks!
  10. Thank you all so much! This is really very helpful. I think we are going to go with Analytical Grammar and I didn't even know about it until reading this post! I am going to try to relax and just know that she will learn. Really, thanks again!
  11. I really appreciate this post! I feel like I keep looking and reading and I just can't decide on a curriculum for my 4th grade daughter. I have it narrowed down to Shurley, Voyages, and Analytical. We've used Rod & Staff in the past and it's so redundant that she gets bored. I just want something straight forward. She is an incredible writer so the writing component need not be there. We have been using Spelling Workout and Wordly Wise, too. The only thing I worry with Jr. Analytical is you only do 11 weeks and then you are done...until 6th grade. That seems like such a gap for me (as a control freak) and I worry she will forget everything. Can I ask which grade you started using Analytical Grammar? And thanks again!
  12. This is my first post. I really appreciate all the discussions on the various Grammar programs out there. I feel like I keep looking and reading and I just can't decide. I have it narrowed down to Shurley, Voyages, Rod & Staff or (thanks to Sue in St Pete) Analytical. I just want a straight forward program for my 4th grade daughter. She is an incredible writer so the writing component need not be there. We have been using Spelling Workout and Wordly Wise, too. Any advice...at all...I am drowning in curriculum brochures. Thanks!
