  1. He did 3rd Grade Full Curriculum from Memoria in 2017-2018, and then 2018-2019 We did Memoria Handwriting, Latina Christiana, Finished up Greek myths and Geography. We did Mystery of History together along with Science in the Beginning. He did Phonetic Zoo instead of that Memoria has because I really didn't like Memoria's spelling and we did FLL instead of Memoria. He seemed to do better with Rod and Staff Math instead of MUS. Some of why we switched it up is we had a new baby and with 5 kids its so hard to get all of Memoria done, but he is getting older and can read and do more of his lessons but I do want to do some together like Bible. In some ways I think I need to schedule to know I am doing everything.
  2. DS is on Delta this year and he goes lost during the long division... mostly because he wants to do it mentally and not show his work. I haven’t really notice him benefit from the visual aspect of MUS. He gets confused by how they are breaking it down. Some of his issue is needing to slow down and do it step by step!
  3. I updated above. I’m going to hold off ordering just yet to make sure this is the direction we want to go to. I own a few pieces already but the benefit of this is I could just buy the Memoria Accelerated 5th and he would have a daily schedule of what is expected of him. We did the full 3rd Grade curriculum last year and it was a lot of subjects and hard to combine with multiple students but it was also laid out well. To be honest he doesn’t seem to want any curriculum I suggest and thinks He doesn’t need to work on writing anymore because he can do it 🤔. I want him to have a say in subjects and such but if anything is “hard” he doesn’t want to do it.
  4. Will Writing and Rhetoric be enough? He is an excellent reader and enjoys reading but I worry I won't be able to help him grasp what the Author is saying. Writing is not his strength at all but he has improved some this year!
  5. I already for the R&S 1st grade math and while it's not my favorite I may go ahead and use it since I have it.
  6. I am thinking of getting Memoria Press JR K for my 3 yr old to do over 2 years and 1st grade for my almost 6 year old. I am struggling because I owned 1st grade but sold it because it wasn't the best fit for my now 3rd grader and I will admit Memoria Press is hard to do with a bunch of students. I still really like some of their products and I've heard their new spelling is awesome. My rising 1st grader is picking up really well and already finished AAR1. I own AAR2 and that's what we used with my rising 3rd grader because Memoria kindergartner wasn't working. I could keep on trekking with AAR with the 1st grader and AAS but I think she could handle a little more. The appeal is I own AAR and AAS but I also like the set for Memoria and this daughter could do it. Thoughts? Does she even need more phonics? Has anyone hated Memoria Jr K or 1st. I heard the story times are amazing in Memoria for Jr K and similar to FIAR but a little more open and go.
  7. I have been trying to finalize next years plan and want some help! My son will be 10 and we will be doing Middle Ages next year with all my kids. I am wanting to base his literature off of the era and I know Memoria has guides for literature in that era but to be honest my son hates them. He did Center For Lit online class this year and enjoyed it but I want him to do more in writing next year. I could either put him in LA2 at WHA and not have his literature correlate but he will get all his grammar, writing(plus we will do W&R Fables) and literature, I could get Teaching the Classics and try and teach myself how to do a Socrates model or finally just make him do the Memoria guides. His courses so far are: LFC B Science- Astronomy(Memoria Press) Middle Ages for History- Famous men of Rome and Middle Ages plus Mystery of History as spine I think Geo- Memoria Literature-? Grammar-? Im stuck here Bible- Something as a family or CAPS one Math- We did MUS this year and he is struggling so either SAXON or SINGAPORE Writing- CAP W&R Piano lessons
  8. Has anyone done WHA Lit 1 and Center for Lit? I need to figure out which one to do and we did Center for Lit this year and really like it but I wonder if having Lit class once a month and writing every week isn't enough? On one hand I like that it's less often but on the other I don't know if it's the best value(cost per class) I didn't know if anyone has done both? Early enrollment ends to night and I want to get the best deal for center for lit if we do that again! My son is 9 going to be 10 and will be in fifth grade next year.
  9. Your post was very helpful! I want to challenge him academically but not overwhelm him. Im going to look up those sciences! I want passionate teachers! It makes learning more fun! Do you know if they have placement tests for LA or Latin? Would you start in their history program now or just do Self Paced? I talked with J Etter on the phone and she said LA might need more literature added on to it so I'm trying to decide if I should do LA and if so what level plus Center for Lit or just the one. There are so many choices. For Latin I think I'll do Schole to see how I like it! That makes me nervous about math. I'll need to think on that some more. Leeanne
  10. I was hoping Mrs. Songer taught LFC A based on your recommendation but it looks like she is just doing C this year. I am trying to decide if three days a week will work for us or if two days is better. I agree the repetition of three days could be beneficial but that's just another day to be online.
  11. Has anyone done science or history through WHA for a 5th grader? Was it worth it? A good and challenging experience? Language Arts? Would that include all the grammar, reading and writing for the year? Any thoughts on Jones, T and Smith, J? Did you have to do additional teaching outside the class or just make sure your student did the work? If you have used both Schole and WHA for Latin I would love to hear your reviews and comparisons. Schole has class three days a week which I could see being beneficial.
  12. Who has used Schole for Latin and used either Mrs. Chilbert, Ms. Scheidegger or Mrs. Weaver? Any recommendations ? Did you like the three day a week schedule over twice a week?
  14. I'm going back and forth being Latin at WHA and Schole. I like that Schole meets three times a week. I guess it will depend on price. How much are Schole classes? I also read about Language Arts 1 at WHA and maybe I should do that for Literature and writing instead of W & R. I was reading that LCF A aligns well with the first self paced history and Bible from Veritas. I was going to put him in the one for 5th grade which I think is Gospels and up to 1815 but should I just start him at the beginning?
  15. Next year we decided to do more online classes. This year we did Center for Lit with the optional writing and I love it but it seems a little pricey for once a month for the literature part and once a week for the writing. What would compare to that program but maybe meet more often? We will do/ Thinking of doing Spelling: Phonetic Zoo Level B Math: Math U See... Is that enough? Latin: We currently do Latina Christiana but I'm thinking of switching to LFC and doing Schole for the online class- Is it crazy to switch to a different latin? And is there a teacher I should try to get? I looked at Memoria Press online classes and I'm not sure what I think about them. Writing: Writing and Rhetoric from Schole Literature:? Grammar: We did FLL but now we ended that so maybe Shurley since I'm thinking of doing LFC? History: VP self-paced unless WHA is super amazing and worth the extra cost and maybe some extra reading/listening to SOTW Bible: VP self-paced Science: I'm thinking of doing WHA science- Has anyone done that? Is there a teacher recommendation Am I missing anything? My son is a strong reader and loves to read but really fights me on school so I think having a live class will really push him! Are there any classes that are a must take at WHA or anywhere else for a 5th grader?
