  5. My good friend has 8 kids, and lots of family that visit. She is moving to a home that will accomodate a large dining table... where does one find a 12' table??? What do you do to seat all of your kids/family if you have a large family? Thanks for the help! Karen in MD
  6. Has anyone heard if TT is planning to release a Calculus course at some point? Thanks, Karen
  7. My daughter has made a carousel (public school project) and now has to label it in three places where each of Newton's 3 laws occurs... Sigh... I am brain dead! She's thinking that the wind up toy (the base of the carousel) knob you wind should be labeled with Newton's 1st and 2nd law, because the force of the "motor" starts the carousel motion and also accelerates it based on how much you wind the knob. The label for Newton's 3rd law is now on the "riders" (lego people) because as the ride moves forward, the people move backwards... What do you think? I thought her reasoning was good... Is there a better place on the carousel that demonstrates the laws? Thanks!!! Karen
  8. Easiest fudge I've ever made: 1 lb white chocolate tabs 1 sm jar smooth peanut butter (approx 7-8 oz size)(we like Skippy) Melt chocolate in double boiler, stir in peanut butter. Pour in foil lined pan (smaller for thicker fudge, larger for thinner...). Pop in fridge to let cool and set. Cut and enjoy!!
  9. Links should be cited for those of us who missed out on some of the Great Threads! Most memorable for me was all about making tea. :blushing:
  10. So much for daily posts! Diet has been going well, but I seem to be quite fixated on thoughts of non-diet food! I started Day 8 today with a total loss of 7.5 lbs. This really works. I don't know how long I could sustain it though... I'm happy to be jump starting my weightloss! Thank you to whomever started the first FL4I thread.
  11. Thanks Sue! I will try to report in daily... I truly need the accountability.
  12. Hi, Haven't heard much lately... I'm gearing up for my first attempt this coming Monday. Will stock up on what I need this weekend... also fiber pills. :) Has anyone done this for more than one cycle? Anyone else want to start this coming Monday with me? Karen
  13. My friend just had this happen today... she and her family have already sold their house and were to close on the new-to-them house. How can a bank do this? When she freaked out and started to walk, bank said they'd look at the numbers again... came back with $15K for closing costs... It all sounds quite fishy to me! We have had 2 different closings and never experienced this. What would you do??!! How do banks get away with this? She and her husband left without a house, bank to get back to them on Monday... Karen

  15. FYI: I currently have a few Usborne titles, Patricia St. John's Rainbow Garden, and some really great science titles that I used while teaching the elementary science classes at our co-op... This is really fun!
  16. I am interested in your experiences... I would love to put a famine event together for our small youth group, but with the funds raised going to our church's missionaries in Africa to purchase food, instead of World Vision . What can you share? What worked? What didn't? Devotional ideas... etc. I don't know much about the 30 hour famine, just came across it while on World Vision's website... Thanks, Karen
  17. Here is my bookshelf... http://www.paperbackswap.com/book/members_books.php?m=SGxTMGIveUcyMnM9
  18. Too funny about the heat lamp. I remember talking with my mom about holding a lamp (minus the shade) near my episiotomy to help it heal! And I had nothing compared to what my sister is going through... Thanks again!!! There is nothing like the voice of experience...
  19. what did you do for pain management and recovery? Any advice? My sister just had her first baby and tore horribly. They had to call a specialist to stitch her up! She is pretty miserable... Thanks, Karen
  20. great storybook versions of several plays. I want to say that Bruce Coville was the author. The kids LOVED Shakespeare's plays. The illustrations were captivating... My goal was to introduce and have a positive experience, so that when we revisited Shakespeare in middle school and high school, they would be familiar with the plays and remember them with fondness. We found many of Coville's books at our library.
  21. Hi! Help! I'm hoping for some advice on what info to include in an intro to dd's new public school teachers. This will be her very first time in a large school setting (she's always been hs'd.) What should I say? I want to tell them a little bit about Abbey but don't know where to start! Have any of you done this before? All help is appreciated! Karen in MD
  22. Hi, My daughter has discovered All-Star cheerleading. She is currently on a seasonal team, which is affordable for us. She LOVES it, and is doing a great job. She would love to tryout for the year round team and from indications we are getting from coaches she would be accepted, no problem. HOWEVER, this wonderful all year team costs $4000!!! If we had that kind of $ she would probably be in Christian school! How have your children personally raised money for "dreams" like this? The team does typical fundraising that goes toward travel expenses, but we have very little family, and they are supportive with prayer, encouragement, etc, but monetary support is difficult. Dd is very motivated to raise money, but we need ideas. (She is even willing to part with her American Girl dolls, at least 2 of the 3!) Thanks for any and all advice! Karen
  23. Please! Educate me...:scared: I just opened a shutterfly account, and discovered digital scrapbooking. I'm sure this is not new to many of you... I would love to find some free sites... Are some better than others? I googled "digital scrapbooking" and was quickly overwhelmed. Any and all help appreciated.
  24. My ds is also spelling challenged.;) He love Sequential Spelling because it is quick and painless. It also is based on spelling patterns. It was originally intended for dyslexic students. We also do a page a day in a workbook called Apples. It is geared more towards middle school kids who still need help with spelling, and comes from a rule approach. It does include some Christian content. Both resources have really helped my son, and are very affordable. Blessings, KarenG in MD
