  1. In order to protect your privacy and security, we have to change the way you sign in to the Community Forums. If you want to know the backstory, keep reading. Effective August 1, 2022, you will need to sign in using your email address; user names will no longer work for signing in. What To Do: Before August 1, 2022, log off and then log in again with your email address and password. BEFORE you log off the forums, read the following bullet points. Your WTM Account email and password are not the same as your Community Forum email and password. The two are not linked. Make sure that you’re using your FORUM email and password for everything that follows. If you remember your email address and password, this shouldn't be a big deal. And may we say, Good Job. If you remember your email address but not the password (please, do try to remember it!), send email to support@welltrainedmind.com and we will reset the password for you. Please include the words "Forum Password Reset" in your email. If you do not remember which email address you used, while you are still signed on, go to the account button on the top right of the Forums screen. Click on the down-arrow by your "avatar", and you will see "Account Settings." Click on that. Your email is listed there. If you can remember your password (please, do try to remember it!), you are good to go. If not, send email to support@welltrainedmind.com and we will reset the password for you. Please include the words "Forum Password Reset" in your email. If Customer Service has to reset your password, it might take a day or two, depending on the number of requests. Please do your best to sign in using your email prior to August 1, 2022. If you have general questions, post them on this topic/announcement in the Site News Forum. What NOT To Do: Don't set up another account. It's against board policy and you will not have access to your old posts. Work with us to resolve any problems with your existing account. ____________________________________ Q&A Why do we have to do this? What's the backstory? To preserve your privacy and network security. This is the notice we got from the software developer, who is looking out for everyone's best interests. Whose fault is this? It's not our fault. It's not your fault (well maybe, indirectly, if you are one who uses "1234" as a password). It's not the fault of the software developers. It's the fault of people who can't keep their noses out of other people's business. Will this have any impact on my WTM Account? No. We separated the two accounts in December 2020. You can still access the digital products in your account, and you can still buy curriculum and other books from the Well-Trained Mind Press website. Why do I have to have a password on a discussion forum? So no one can pose as you and make posts in your name that could be embarrassing, or worse. Any suggestions on how to create a good password? Use the search string "how to create a good password" in your search engine of choice. You'll find lots of good suggestions, and probably one that you will like better than the others. For the record, we can all agree that it would be so wonderful not to have to deal with passwords. Alas. Additional Q&As will be answered in the Site News Forum posting, as the questions arise and are answered.

  7. We have an article in the FAQs on the website that tells about the downloading/listening options. It also has the backstory on WHY you need to use an audiobook app, and there's another article about why SOTW audios are not on Audible. If Alexa can read from another audiobook app, you should be good to go on that one. Maybe someone in the Alexa ecosystem can pipe up about that...I need to know the answer, myself. I live in a different ecosystem. As far as Volume 4 for younger students: please read the forward to the text, where Susan Wise Bauer addresses this issue and has some suggestions for handling it. We know that families work with multiple ages at the same time...it's the way of homeschooling. The forward is available in the Sample button under the image on this page. If you have further questions, please feel free to email support@welltrainedmind.com.
  8. This article from our FAQ might be of help to those who are looking for these evaluations but also for a recommended path for language arts. The article includes a link (toward the end) re: Writing With Skill, and alternate paths for students who are (or are not) "out of band" re: typical pathways. Where to start in all language arts. The FAQs in the Help Center have a lot of additional information about Well-Trained Mind Press' writing and grammar curricula, including links to Scope and Sequence documents for the upper-level materials.
  9. And I thank you for your understanding (especially my humor-attempt). Some things just are what they are. --Helpdesk
  10. Here is what I found out: This particular forum vendor's software does not include a "timed" or "until read" editing window. As an administrator, I could flip a switch to make it so the field that shows "edited" either shows up (like it does now) or does not show up. I'm going to leave it as it is, and bear with The Wrath of Bill (channeling Star Trek II, also revealing too much about my age in so doing). Maybe we can put "typos" in that field to indicate minor edits, and "content" (or something else) to show that it was a meaningful change. If you want to know why I am going to leave it as it is, read on. Some people like to know backstory; others need to get back to making the peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. I'm going to leave the note that a post has been edited because over the past 20 years, I've seen plenty of cases where Aamelia makes a post, and Bbobby responds, as does Cclarice and Ddoris...and then Aamelia goes back and edits to add the word "not" to the initial post, completely changing the meaning of the initial post, and making B, C, and D's posts look idiotic or mean. (Then the moderators start getting emails...) It's a bit helpful to have the note that the initial post was edited. Bbobby, Cclarice, and Ddoris can modify their posts if they wish (or have time to do so between the peanut butter sandwich of lunch and the spaghetti for dinner)...and so can the people who have responded to them. It's sort of a trade-off: a minor irritant in exchange for peace and harmony. Thanks for making the request. If the software had the feature, I'd be all in favor of using it - especially the one where it could be edited until it is read. Between my own screwy typing and auto-correct, I myself would be a major beneficiary of the feature.
  11. Hi, Bill-- I snooped around the administrative controls and don't see a switch to flip that will create an editing window. Is the reason you ask for this that you find it annoying to see "post edited" when all you did was correct typos? or is there another reason? I can ask the software developer if this is a feature in the system (I might have missed it in the controls list...) and let them know that it was a customer request. --Helpdesk
  12. UPDATE (finally--embarrassed): Users can't delete their ads; the way to close them down to inquiries is to mark the item "sold." I GUESS that the reason the items can't be deleted is to allow shoppers and sellers to see what price points work and which ones don't, but don't quote me on that. --Helpdesk
  13. Sorry for the delay in my response. I guess I replied to the questions in PMs in the past. You have found the solution; users can't delete ads (the request for said feature has been made for a future release of the developer's software). So marking the product as sold is the way to go. I think (but don't quote me) that the intention is that others can see what the same product sold for so they know where to price something they really want to sell. --Helpdesk
  14. Other than those in the pilot program, I would not expect to hear about experience with Second Grade Math as it was released only in the past couple of weeks. But you could ask how people liked First Grade Math, as that has been out for a year, and glean what you can from that feedback. 🙂
  15. Hey there, Jen- Welcome to the conversation and back to homeschooling. You might want to post these thoughts on the General Education forum where more people will see them, and have a chance to respond. Just a suggestion. --Helpdesk Well-Trained Mind Press
  16. I suspect, too, that it was during the system upgrade.
  17. Jessica Otto teaches all the grammar classes. Just an FYI. There's a Bridge to Grammar course to catch up to the starting point for Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind, the Well-Trained Mind Press curriculum. I *think* the I, II, III, IV levels complete one cycle of the workbooks. I'm not an expert in the WTM Academy world, but thought I would let you know the little bit I do know (or think I know).
  18. Hi, Nancy--and others who are reading along. In my last response, I said I was checking into a couple of things regarding your question, and I have an update and a request. In your initial post, you said: While researching curricula, I often see the Well-Trained Mind Recommended curricula logo with various products. However, many of these products are not included in the Well-Trained Mind 4th Edition book. Here is what I confirmed: If Well-Trained Mind Press* doesn't publish the curriculum in question AND if that curriculum has the WTM-recommendation logo BUT it's not listed in The Well-Trained Mind,4th edition, that company is not being honest. Here is The Request: Please send the company / curriculum name (and a jpg image if possible) to support@welltrainedmind.com so we can preserve the integrity of our recommendations and the use of our logo. Thank you! ~~Helpdesk *Until March 2016, Well-Trained Mind Press was known as Peace Hill Press. Just FYI.
  19. Hi, Nancy-- First off, welcome to the forums! I'm checking into a couple of things regarding your question, but while I wait for that information, I thought I could make a couple of remarks. Since the 2016 publication of The Well-Trained Mind, the Press has added titles to our offerings. It might seem self-serving to pitch our own products, but we developed them for a reason: we saw a gap between the vision delivered in TWTM and the curriculum available in the marketplace. Since TWTM was published, we have produced (and obviously, would recommend!)-- Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind - Intermediate/Advanced Grammar, with reference materials Math With Confidence - Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade, with Second Grade coming this summer and other grades one year at a time through 6th grade. We also have introduced Math Facts that Stick for skills mastery. Who Said What? - a guide for doing worthy research and avoiding plaigiarism We have added other products to our curricula collections, as well, including a coloring book, additional Jim Weiss audiobooks, and other products, a book on Rethinking School, but I wanted to focus on the *curriculum* additions. Well-Trained Mind Press produces curriculum that focuses on fleshing out the vision and principles described in TWTM...that's why I wanted to mention these materials here. I'll get back with you if I get further information about your question. And in the meantime, if you wish, you can take a look at our FAQs which may be of help in giving you more specific guidance. Or you can email support@welltrainedmind.com to ask questions specific to your situation. Helpdesk
  20. @Amethyst - American Tune. I have lots of songs that I have played over and over, and like most people, lots of artists and multiple genres. But if I had kept count of the number of plays of one song, I have no doubt that this would be the song. Paul Simon is a master lyricist.
  21. The Operating Systems Companies changed the rules re: iTunes in late 2019; now they supply you with a podcast app, an audiobook app, and a music app so you can listen to MP3s on the appropriate app. This article from our FAQ tells you about this change and gives you some guidance in how to download the MP3 files you purchase from us into an audiobook app so you can stream them from your phone, your computer, through your BluTooth-linked speaker. When they made this change, I had to go in and do some manual "fixing" to get things into the right app--Apple made a good guess most of the time, but a few items were misplaced. I'm still behind, though, because our server that has iTunes on it has been disconnected for awhile now, so I will have some work to do to bring that all up to date. Ugh.
  22. Hmmm. Let me see what I can find out. GUESSING at one possibility, and I don't know for sure that this is even a possibility with these forums, but I have two websites I link to from my desktop and from my phone...and sometimes the phone/mobile view shows up on the desktop or the desktop view shows up on the phone where I am used to the mobile view (and which is a lot better on the mobile device). And it is only for the specific app--not for everything I log into. On one of the apps, it actually changes the URL, so I just go back and get rid of the mobile-specific info-bit, and the desktop is fine. On the other one, though, I need to clear my cache and start fresh to get the right URL onto the appropriate devices. I suspect this has something to do with the way my desktop, laptop, and phone are supposed to keep themselves coordinated, but sometimes they get all mixed up and I just have to give them a fresh start. I don't know if those experiences/suggestions are any help to you, but if they are, yay...and in the meantime, I will see what I can find out on the forum support page.
