  1. Hey there, I finally got a bit of traction-time. Take a look at your notifications settings in the user preferences section. The Tech Support team suggested clicking *both* these boxes (not just the second one). Let me know if this changes anything, OK? --Helpdesk
  2. OK, Thanks. I'll tell that to the Tech Team as they will want to know that there might be something going on with older versions of Firefox. And say thank you to Mr. Ellie!
  3. Interesting on Firefox. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to know what browser just showed blanks.
  4. There's a bunch of good advice on the forums, and we have a bunch of articles and videos on the website to help you get started. Welcome aboard.
  5. Of. course! You've been a great contributor, for one thing. :0) The tech guys asked if you could send a screenshot of what you see, and they asked if you would see what happens if you clear your cache (cookies and history) and see if things look normal again. I don't know what clearing the cache does but it's sort of magic, so it is worth giving a try. Let me know what happens.
  6. Hi, Ellie -- I'll report it to the tech people. I checked my civilian account and the video shows up there, so the issue is this: A member posted a link to a YouTube video. She sees only a blank screen, but both I as an admin and as a civilian can see the linked video just fine. The board member used to see the link when she posted it, but doesn't anymore--she just sees a blank screen. --Helpdesk
  7. OK. Now I know what to report to the techteam. Thank you for clarifying. (I can see it at least as admin. I'll double-check re: my civilian account before I report it.)
  8. Color me "duh" today, but I'm kinda not sure what is blank. The video showed up and when I clicked on the little arrow, it played. I never posted YouTube links so I don't know what it *should* look like... Will you give me a little more description of What it was and What it is now? Thank you.
  9. I know...I'm not either. This is like #3 on my task list, but #1 and #2 keep getting replaced with urgent stuff. There will be a "silent" update next week and maybe that will take care of the issue. I did get a response from the vendor telling me how to set the notifications so that emails could be received, but IIRC correctly, you already *have* them set correctly . I'll look into this a bit more. Sorry...I know that it's frustrating when something doesn't work the way it should.
  10. It would help to know the age of your son and what curriculum you have used in the past. 🙂
  11. I did ask and got the information about making sure my settings are correct...and they are, but I am still not getting the notifications. I will follow up on this.
  12. Greta passed away October 3, 2022. Rest in peace.

  13. Today brings with it the sad news that our long-time board friend, Greta, departed this life this morning. She is survived by her husband and daughter. Greta's long and valiant engagement with cancer is over. She beat the predictions of her survival by several years, and she and her family filled those years with life- and love-giving experiences and interactions. Time being shorter-than-expected, Greta's posts about life, politics, faith, children, education, and home diminished, even as she lived her life, voted her politics, practiced her faith, loved her child and husband and saw to the home and to her daughter's education and launch into adulthood. Well done, Greta. Rest with the saints in the hope of the Resurrection. If you wish to leave condolences for the family, you may do so here, and I'll tell the family about this post. UPDATE 10/4: Memorial donations may be made to her parish or to NM Wildlife Rescue.
  14. @allySW and @Mrs Tiggywinkle Again and @ anyone else who has two accounts because of password or email issues. We can totally merge the accounts. You need to send an email to support@welltrainedmind.com, and let me know what account and email address you want to KEEP. A bit of backstory: Some people have experienced difficulties because we had to make changes to the system to keep member's information safer from hackers. Thanks to people who can't mind their own business, you have to sign in using your email name, not your User ID. Anyway, send me the two account names (email names help) and tell me which one you want to keep and I can merge the two. I'll probably create a new password which you can change once you are in, as it might save some back-and-forthing.
  15. @Mrs Tiggywinkle AgainI can merge your accounts and reset your password for you. It's better than having two accounts. :0)
  16. Hello, Onika--We are trying to figure this out; I just sent you a response on the email thread. OTHER pilot program participants: If you have experienced this same problem, please send email to support@welltrainedmind.com. It might help us to know what device and browser you use to log in to the forum, and to receive emails. This article from our FAQ tells how to "white list" our email addresses; some email providers block emails from unknown senders. Bear in mind that I'm still troubleshooting, so I'm not sure that this is the issue...but it might be.
  17. Thank you for being a lot quicker than I was, and for posting the update. 🙂
  18. Helpdesk from Well-Trained Mind here. One of my friends teaches in a co-op. She had a brilliant suggestion, I think. She has her students do 1/2 the assigned "problems", diagrams, and so on, and then she checks the work. That way, if there is some trouble with understanding, there's another teaching opportunity before assigning the rest of the examples. Maybe give that a try, and see if it helps. In addition, we are finding that many families have better success with GftWTM if they slow it down a bit...take 1.5 or 2 years to go through the first cycle, especially for 5th, 6th or even 7th grade starters, and especially if this is the student's first experience with explicit grammar instruction.
  19. If you want to use SOTW with an intermediate student, check out this article from our FAQ which gives you suggestions for leveling-up to the maturity level of a middle-grades student.
  20. So, for now there is no system-wide switch to turn this off. I posted instructions in the SITE NEWS forum to tell users how to change their privacy settings. I have asked the system provider to find a way to make this a system-wide on/off switch but in the meantime, it's up to individual users to set their privacy to suit their wishes. @KSera is correct, upthread. There's always been a way to see who is doing what. The current update makes it more obvious. The privacy setting will take care of that, too, at least on the individual name situation. One of the annoyances of modern life, I guess...but a reminder (at least to me) to check my privacy settings on all my social media. Thanks for the heads-up, everyone. I'll leave this thread unlocked in case it helps anyone to complain, but unless there's a new issue, I'll not be following along.
  21. The forums system provider launched an update to the system with a feature that some people seriously dislike: it shows by user name who is reading what forums. There is no system-wide switch to turn this off, so it is up to you to go to your account's privacy settings and change a setting so your presence will be anonymous (not by name). Click on your Account (top right corner of the forum window), and then click on Settings/Account Settings/. Look on the left sidebar of the window that comes up. Click on Security and Privacy, and enter your password in the "Reauthenticate" bar. Another window will pop up that gives you the option of clicking a button to hide your online status. Click that. If you want to see this process with screenshots, look at this thread, a few posts down. One of the members posted a series of screenshots. Now, when you are looking at a forum (or post), it will say that a user is looking at the forum (or post), but not by user name. I have registered our displeasure and will do what I can to make this better. One other thing I might as well get off my chest right now: some users need to create a different user name (don't use your full name or the first part of your email address...) to create a layer of anonymity. I don't mean to chide, but this is a 21st Century Life Skill, right? The thought is not directly related to this topic, but it needs to be said.
  22. Please see the message directly before your post. 🙂
  23. The tech support team changed the universal setting on our system so this issue should be resolved. AND I'm glad that I had a reminder to look at my own privacy settings...I had them set up the way I wanted them in my civilian account, but forgot to take care of it on my admin account. Thanks to PurpleOwl upthread for posting the screenshots that show how to get to the Privacy settings. That saved me a bunch of work! 🙂
