Indecision is really my downfall. I can't decide between curricula. We "started" school a few weeks ago, kind of just been winging it without a formal plan. I really want to use something that gives more guidance and is planned out so that I don't have to keep thinking things up the night before. It is exhausting. I can't seem to make a decision between: MFW 1st Grade vs. Oak Meadow 1st Grade with informal Bible vs. FIAR Social Studies with Sonlight Science. Right now we've just doing reading instruction, informal math, and random library books. With so many choices of great stuff, how do you decide?

Gordon Neufeld. He was recommended here on this board to me. He changed my life, my parenting, and my views of attachment and children. There are Youtube videos of some of his seminars.

I can't believe I read this thread. It just oozes with self-righteousness in the kitchen. lol! In actuallity, I have never heard of any one say "from scratch." It sounds like an impossible old fashioned term. We all cook, we share food with friends, we swap recipes. I don't judge if others use a box mix or grind their own grain. :)

OP, I'm glad to hear that you are humbled about the spelling/grammar righteousness. I have always told my children (and others) that not every one was fortunate enough to have a good education. I am shocked that most (intelligent) people don't realize that, rather they automatically assume some one with poor spelling or grammar is not smart.

(Shudder!) We saw that in a Halloween cookbook once and to this day can not figure out why ANY ONE would think that is funny/cute/amusing/a great idea.

I know that Google starts to "personalize" your searches to whatever it thinks you want to see, however it is seriously starting to frustrate me. If I google something, I will only get hits from the websites that we have frequented before - message boards, merchants, blogs we've read, etc. Usually I want to find out something other than the regurgitated information I already know or something completely different. Is there a setting to turn this personalized search off? Or is there a better search engine out there?

OP, 12 is probably fine for a little, however I'm shocked to hear that people give it to younger children or don't even give it a thought. Caffeine is a drug. It is a diuretic, stimulates the nervous system, reduces calcuim and other mineral absorbtion in a growing body, and is addicting. I don't understand why any one would be okay with that.

I bought it when it was on sale at Mardel, however haven't had time to sit down and take a look through it yet. What do you think is the best age to start it?

As a non-Christian, we are part of a AHG troop and it is fine, most of the time. My dd has friends, our leader is very laid-back. It really depends on the troop. We tried a different troop before and it was definitely not a good fit, so we transferred and are happy more often than not :)

It doesn't seem any one has mentioned this: A larger slow cooker that is FULL will cook a lot slower than if it was only partially full. Smaller slow cookers generally cook quicker than larger. I know it sounds obvious, but I needed some one to point it out to me :)

You know, I think I am the only person that is worried some one will have a heart attack doing it. I had an uncle that mowed the grass on a hot day, drank 1/2 a glass of ice cold lemonade and it was such a shock to his system, that he had a heart attack and died. So when I see people dumping buckets of ICE on thier heads, the only thing I think, is I really, really hope that they don't have sudden cardiac arrest.

lol! Too funny! :laugh: No, seriously though, I guess it's called flip-flopping. Ah. Maybe it is social anxiety. I have that too, sometimes.

We also have a small cast-iron pan that is exclusive to eggs and only cooks 2 eggs at a time. I put about olive oil in, coat the bottom, then heat it up on medium. Once the oil is warm/hot, I put eggs in and it starts cooking immediately and doesn't stick. If the oil isn't hot enough and the eggs don't start cooking right away, it sticks. However if the oil is too hot, it boils/sizzles our eggs and we don't like them that way. It is definitely trial & error with cast iron, but once you figure out what works for you, it works every time.

Some days I am so indecisive. I really have a hard time making a decision with attending social events or comittments. For example, I will be confident that I want my child to do something, register them, then a few days or even weeks before it starts, I'll change my mind and withdraw them, but sometimes I decide to re-register again. I'll come up with lots of reasons to sign up, then doubt creeps in. I'm not sure why this happens. Indecision doesn't really happen with other choices I have to make too much, it used to, but not much anymore. But trying to decide on social stuff, or even spiritual/religious things, is so hard! Wondering if any one else has the same problem and how they deal with it, or if they had an indecision issue and overcame it.

:grouphug: That is a bummer! I'm sorry your homeschool community is, seems so,....gosh I can't even think of a proper word. That just stinks. We are fortunate to live in town with a huge homeschool community, both secular and religious. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to homeschool for educational reasons and not find any common community in that or one that excludes others. :(

Personally, I prefer homeschool only classes because it's easier on the children to know that they aren't the only freaks that homeschool. Whenever we've done stuff with ps children, it's all about grade level - "What grade are you in? Oh, you homeschool or you're in x grade, which means I'm better/worse than you" versus "Oh, you homeschool too? Let's be friends!" Why does it bother OP so much? Homeschoolers can be their own community too. ETA: Just another thought. I think it is just human nature to want to be around others with similar values and interests. Educational choice is a HUGE factor, right up there with politics & religion ;)

I had no idea such a little thing as the 'likes' would make my day so fantasticlly better! Oh, goodness, I am sooo ridiculously happy that they are back - I think I need more excitement in my life if such a little thing can increase my happiness level so much!
