We have used AAR levels 1 and 2 but never used the pre-reading level. It is pricy! Is it worth the cost? Is there something else you liked better? Or did the job and was cheaper? Thanks!

My kids have loved the videos from my math assistant. Www.mymathassistant.com The man who runs the site is a homeschooling dad and does a great job. It has has online grading, too. I found the Saxon teacher dvds on eBay because they go through every problem in the book and tests questions. Step by step and it was a huge help! Combined I think I spent $120? Worth every penny!! Rainbow resource has the Saxon teacher video digitally but it is only for 1 year. The dvds are nice because you can reuse them but harder to find now. The dvds also have video lessons but my kids didn’t care for them. Nicole the math lady does video lessons. She has sample lessons on YouTube. My kids said her videos were not also easy to follow and not always on the topic of the chapter.

We have done BJU Spanish and enjoyed it. The videos are are prerecorded and a bit dated but it was a solid course in my opinion. We are going to try a science class on apologia or the potter school this year. No experience but we are outsourcing science.

I am teaching IEW writing to high schoolers at our co-op this year and I am unsure how to schedule the year. Do you finish the curriculum each year? My younger kids don’t usually finish but I would like my high schooler to compete most of it, if not all. we have tried in the past to do half and I didn’t feel like it was enough. Are your kids able to keep up with the workload? Any experience from co-ops? thanks!!

We are having a hard time deciding between apologia and the potters school marine biology classes. We have not taken classes from either company but have enjoyed apologia’s science books. Both classes use apologia books. Any input? Other suggestions? Thank you!

I believe this edition came out last year. This is our first time doing biology so I am not sure if it is more difficult personally. Other parents who have used the older edition said this one was substantially more difficult. I was just looking for some additional options.

This new apologia biology book has been a huge time commitment and my two oldest have found it to be a very difficult class. I’m not sure if I should call this an honors class or not. It seems to be more than the biology class I took I high school but that was ages ago. Any thoughts? Thanks!

We have been trying to go over it together but I am not a science expert so I wonder if we are missing something. I just want to make sure we are on the right track. I keep second guessing myself! My oldest kids are taking a science class this year and the teacher allows the students to correct missed test questions for half credit. Is this common? We have freshman so I haven’t dealt with this before. I want their transcripts to be honest and not artificially inflated. Thanks!

My daughter loves taking Latin but I am having trouble finding if it will cover the foreign language requirements for college enrollment. Does she need to take a different language? Anyone have experience with this?

My main concerns are that these issues will continue. I don’t know how hard I should push him. Should I push him to finish his work or let him take it easy and hope that as he matures it will be easier. Or would easing up cause more problems. I have never run into this problem before and I am feeling lost. He is a lefty and his penmanship is not very good. He can be really stubborn, too. I don’t want our decisions to backfire on us! Are we using a curriculum that isn’t a good fit for a child who doesn’t like to write. Would something else work better? Hopefully that explains my concerns a little better!

My incoming 3rd grader hates writing - any type - Handwriting, journaling, Copywork. Should I push him to work through it or just take a light year? He is a smart kid but writing causes us trouble almost everyday. He is a great reader and is advanced in math. Any ideas on what curriculum might work for him? Or maybe a different route? We tried bju, spelling you see, a reason for handwriting and the good and he beautiful this past year. Not all everyday. Nothing really clicked.
