  1. At this point, I feel like I'm grasping at straws to get answers to questions I don't even know I have. Jubilee
  2. I have hit my limitations as a home educating parent to help my 15 yr ds. Elementary years were filled with tears and frustration from both of us that not much school work was accomplished. I chalked it up with "the reason why we are home" & not having to be on anyone else's timeline; I can meet him where he is and move forward. Middle school years were more of the same so I enrolled him under a local charter school for this year to help prepare him for high school fall 2017. They utilize iReady testing for Math & ELA. His Jan. results show math at a 6th grade level and ELA at 7th grade level. He is strong-willed and emotional. If I suggest something one way he will do it the opposite way just because he needs to be the one to decide how to do things. He will cry when asked too many questions and takes a while to diffuse in order to come back to the topic. He struggles with verbalizing his thoughts and "I don't know" is his default answer to everything. He asked to learn how to read at 3 and once he accomplished it didn't pick up a book on his own until he was 12 yr. It is as if his brain is working so hard at something so basic he only can give himself to (2) subjects at a time. Btw, he sleeps on average 10hrs at night and sometimes will take a nap. My main reason for finally seeking testing is to give him the help that I am unable to provide on my own. He is a natural leader and great with his siblings. He will conversate with anyone that will listen and has natural qualities that cannot be taught. He talks of wanting to take CC classes and he is no where ready for that. He understands that to reach this goal, he needs to step up his game and I don't know how to do that. He has a math tutor 1x/week. He works on Khan Academy at home and they review only the areas he struggled with that week during the tutoring time. She has expressed that he does understand the concepts but he doesn't always choose the correct step to get the answer, thus resulting in the wrong answer. He almost always figures it out in his own when she points out an error. He is in TT 6 in addition to the tutoring. He will be working in Keys To fractions, decimals & percentage during the summer, wrapping up TT 6 in hopes to start Pre-Alg in the fall. He had a well check exam today with his pcp and my dh asked for a referral for a neuropsych evaluation. He gave my dh a Vanderbilt Assesment form for parent and teacher first. He then gave dh a print out of neuropsych/behavioral pediatrics; psychologists once dh insisted that we want to have the eval done. Not quite sure what direction to go. Any suggestions for SF Bay Area are appreciated!

  6. I admit I skimmed the webpage linked above. Is there no physical book? Everything is PDF or online? Nevermind...just read your above response.
  7. Edit post: I purchased this with a local home educator. Haven't had a chance to dive all in quite yet but do look forward to using this.
  8. Do you use manipulatives? C rods, Base ten blocks over even legos will help to see how to make 10.

  10. http://fitmiss.tv/ I did a search on youtube and found these videos had clear instructions and directions. Her review on Lauren Brooks lead me to the next website. Lauren Brooks is a name that often came up in my searches for KB workouts. I ended up purchasing her latest book and Volume 1 DVD from her website. Lauren Brooks is big on KB training the correct way. She recommends seeing a local, KB certified trainer to make sure you have proper form and technique. I wanted to add that before spending the money, I would recommend having your library purchase the DVD's or at least Vol. 1. This way you can test out if her style is a match for your taste. Good Luck!
  11. I always use their database as it is up to date and very detailed. I appreciate the search function so, I can look up any one particular product that I need. Another tip: Train your eye to keep a look out for coupons...they are all around the grocery store: blinkies (machines attached to shelf). Also, check with your neighbors, friends, and family that receive the Sunday paper but don't use their coupons. ETA: I meant to quote WeeBeaks re: HotCouponWorld database...
  12. hip2save.com is my go to blog. Collin list details for the major drug stores with coupon policies and all. Great for newbies. She also provides tutorials on how to start clipping, storing coupons, etc. I also appreciate the free samples, internet deals, and more.
  13. Don't forget to post on the "Want to Buy" forum here. It is a great match for those wanting to purge with less effort.
  14. Third person for Orange! But tend not to wear anything with Orange during Oct. because then I look like everyone else.
  15. NCLB Article It is a bit long (if you don't have a lot of time right now). I only skimmed over the article. Points I did read have been discussed on this board for years;) Apologies if this has been posted. Thank you for letting me share!
  16. A pioneer for SD homeschooling: I am honored;) CFS was a great support for me and our families decision to homeschool.
  17. Do you know where in San Diego? SD has a large homeschool community. I was part of CFS homeschool support group. I highly recommend atteding a park day to connect with others. I also suggest going to more than one area if you can to get a feel of where you connect better. There are also great used curriculum sales hosted throughout the Spring/Summer. CFS also host a convention which this year will be held in Escondido, CA (North County). There is also a lot the city/county has to offer. The nine years I lived in San Diego (Normal Heights community and later, Spring Valley, CA) I enjoyed it. Don't really have details to share other than I miss it! We moved back to NorCal. I am sure others will share their experience in SD.
  18. Too funny:lol: This is our current default. The bed rail you have pictured is actually available through Craigslist. I searched online and read not recommended for toddler beds. Hmmm, maybe we will pick it up after all. Thank you for the ideas. We were given a crib and bassinet for baby #4 due next week. We are planning to have dd2yr use the crib while the baby uses the bassinet before we transition her to her own room. So many decisions to make:O) Thank you all!
  19. We have moved our daughter into a crib converted toddler bed. We basically took adjustable side rail off and now it is a toddler day bed. All of the bed rails I have found online state that they are designed for mattress/boxsprins only. If you have a toddler bed and use a bed rail please share with me what you use. My dh is not too keen on the idea of forking out $100 for a "real" toddler bed that has the side rails attached. Thank you!
  20. The author also has a Getting Started With Spanish that follows a similar format. The author is very hands on and is helpful with questions and feedback. I hope you find something that works for you. GSWL has been mentioned on the boards...they just move too fast to keep up sometimes:O)
  21. Thank you Dawn:O) You are able to view your credit score and report provided by Experian.
  22. I would add this info to your FS post: example: Items will be sold to the first buyer who pays for item(s) or something along those lines. As long as potential buyers are aware of your "policy" up front I see no harm in that. hth,
  23. PayPal uses any money you have funded in your acct. first for any transactions. You are able to change method of payment used before you finalize payment I believe. From your: My Account page click on the withdraw tab and transfer to my bank account. NOTE: It can take 3-4 business days for the funds to post to your acct.
