  1. Father Arango worked for a brief time in San Diego. This is a statement from our bishop - Statement by San Diego Bishop Robert McElroy regarding Baptisms by Fr. Andrés Arango SAN DIEGO (Feb. 16, 2022) — Bishop Robert W. McElroy, of the Catholic Diocese of San Diego, issued the following statement today: “The Diocese of San Diego has received inquiries about the pastoral situation of men and women who were baptized by Father Andrés Arango during the brief period in which he served in the Diocese of San Diego a generation ago. Since Father Arango utilized an invalid formula in baptisms in the Diocese of Phoenix in recent years, that diocese has taken steps to identify and re-baptize men and women. “It is unclear if any invalid baptisms by Father Arango took place within the Diocese of San Diego. If any such baptisms did take place, it is impossible 20 years later to analyze the nature of each specific baptismal formula that was used in individual baptisms, find the person who was baptized, and re-baptize them. “Fortunately, this is essentially a pastoral dilemma rather than solely a matter of church law. The theology of the Church teaches that God binds himself to the efficacy of validly celebrated sacraments. But that same theology states that God is not bound by the limitations of the sacraments. The bounty of God’s grace powerfully suggests that any men and women who were possibly baptized so long ago have received from the Lord the graces of baptism and all that goes with them in their lives. And thus, they should be at ease. “If anyone who was baptized by Father Arango in our diocese wishes to discuss this personal pastoral situation in greater depth, I would ask them to please call me personally.” source - https://www.sdcatholic.org/bishop/statement-by-san-diego-bishop-robert-mcelroy-regarding-baptisms-by-fr-andres-arango/
  2. I got my mom hooked on Inspector Gamache. I would recommend listening to them in order. The first one is Still Life. She also likes the Memory Man series by David Baldacci. Margie
  3. I'm using a 4S on Ting. It's been working very well for me. Margie
  4. Martin Jarvis - I don't think we've listened to anything else he has narrated but he's wonderful! Margie
  5. We are listening to Good Omens now. The audio version is great. Margie
  6. We know a teen that is going through something similar. It is complicated. Love and acceptance are key. We don't always get it right but we're trying and they know that. I recently found this article - http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/when-no-gender-fits-a-quest-to-be-seen-as-just-a-person/2014/09/20/1ab21e6e-2c7b-11e4-994d-202962a9150c_story.html?hpid=z1 Margie
  7. My DH gave me a subscription to satellite radio for my last birthday. I loved it! Margie
  8. Some schools will allow you to schedule a "shadow day" for your child so that they can attend for a day and see how it feels. We looked at 3 different schools for my daughter. All were public charter schools and had higher standardized test scores and good reputation. We talked to parents and students and asked them what they liked and what they didn't like about the school. My daughter was interested in choir and theater so we attended performances and talked to students who were involved in these activities. Margie
  9. I often wonder what the librarians must think when I'm in every week picking up a huge stack of books. I agree about keeping the circulation numbers up. It's a job I take very seriously. Margie
  10. Thank you - I'm happy to be here! I picked up Cinnamon and Gunpowder after reading about it here. I liked the whole premise of the book - lady pirate and the chef. Some parts dragged a bit but overall, I enjoyed it. I could imagine it being a movie. A Tale for the Time Being bounces back and forth between a 16 year old Japanese girl and a writer living in Canada. I liked reading Nao's story more than Ruth's, even though it was heartbreaking most of the time. My girls are into Japanese pop-culture and I found the descriptions of Nao's life so interesting. I didn't care for some of the more mystical elements towards the end of the book. I like stories to be reality or fantasy but not mixed together. That said, my book club has selected this as their February book and I'm looking forward to the discussion and finding out how others interpret what happened. edited to add that I liked Nick Hornby's About a Boy better than I'm liking this one. It's the only other book I've read of this author. Margie
  11. I really liked Hyperbole and a Half. Both of my girls read it also and I could hear them giggling the whole time. (They are 13 and 16). Some of the stories from the book can be found on her blog. Margie
  12. Thank you! I love Sheldon!! In January I finished - A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki Chickens in the Road by Suzanne McMinn Where the Moon Isn't by Nathan Filer Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Dollar Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh Cinnamon and Gunpowder by Eli Brown I'm currently reading A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby. I have a tower of books from the library that I will never be able to finish before they are due. Anytime I read that someone loved a book, I have to request it from my library. I think I'm becoming a library book horder. :blushing: Margie

  14. We replaced our 12 yo mini-van with a Prius in Feb. I love it! We even went on a 2000 mile road trip this summer with all 4 of us (me, DH, 2 girls) and it was great. We bought a new one (original model) because the used cars were not much less. Margie
  15. I'm interested in this also! My DD is taking Spanish this year and I would love to find some movies in Spanish for her to watch. I'm going to look for some shows on the Spanish language cable channel to record on our DVR. Margie
  16. I'm sending the link to my DH. We were just talking about this recently. Since this article supports my opinion, he needs to read it. :001_smile: Margie
  17. My 12 yo has the animal cupcake picks and uses them in her lunch at school. She and her friends think they are cute. Margie
  18. Hi! I'm Margie and live in Southern California, a bit north of San Diego. I have 2 girls, 12 and 14, and have been married for 26 years. We decided to homeschool our older DD 3 days before she was to start 6th grade. She had been attending a Catholic school and it wasn't a good fit socially for her. I couldn't let her go through another year being an outsider. We just finished 8th grade last week. It has been a wonderful experience! She is going to be attending a charter High School in the fall. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do next. Thank you to everyone that posts their words of wisdom on the boards. I've learned so much.
  19. My DD is going to love this! :001_smile: Margie
  20. I just showed this to my girls. They loved it! Margie
  21. We have used it to purchase a new car and had a very positive experience. Margie
