  1. I do have some regrets and started having them when each was in 5th grade, so they both went to ps starting in 6th grade. There just weren’t any homeschool groups that weren’t super conservative where we lived so the social aspect for both dc was difficult. Neighborhood and friends’ kids only work well so long and it was around 4th/5th grade that they needed more. Oldest had a rough first year of middle school but then had lots of friends through the end of high school. Youngest does best with just one or two friends and hasn’t had much of an issue. I think homeschooling them through elementary school was the right decision academically for sure, and I think putting them in to ps when I did was the right decision for other reasons. As far as family/Dh stuff, I have no regrets with any of that in regards to homeschooling. Dh actually gave up a lot too in order to be home with the family as much as possible. He purposefully changed his career and passed on promotions for many years while they were growing up. When things started getting rough with oldest, dh proposed working from home and thankfully his employer was on board. Dh still works from home and has no desire to move up the ranks anymore. He’s happy with where he’s at and his employer is happy to let him keep going on as he is. ETA: Youngest did end up homeschooling senior year as well but that was really just doing dual enrollment at the local CC. The high school here just wasn’t doing enough in regards to their autism and youngest was miserable and wanted out.
  2. Good luck! We’re listing our home this week and I can’t believe how crazy it is. Our realtor is listing Thursday, accepting showings and bids through Sunday, and then will notify winning bidder on Monday. We’re leaving town for the weekend to avoid it all but I do feel for those trying to buy right now. We just want to rent for a while until we figure out where we want to land.
  3. Because most good attorneys would advise the client in this situation not to talk to police unless no option left (he hadn’t even been arrested yet so…).
  4. Yep! My bil is an ADA and says don’t talk ever without an attorney period. Guilt or innocence doesn’t matter at all.
  5. So, I lost mine seven years ago due to the flu. Not Covid but what I’m hearing is it’s mostly the same. What I was ultimately left with was awful for quite a while. I’ve now just become used to it and actually enjoy a few things. I still get the phantom smells (pretty much always smoke) a few times a year. Hopefully you have better luck than I did and yours eventually returns to normal.
  6. My Dh is currently doing physical therapy. He found a spine specialist clinic within our medical group and they have their own physical therapists at the clinic. He’s also trying to avoid surgery and is seeing a little improvement this week. The physical therapists at this clinic are so much better than the random ones he’s been sent to previously.
  7. Yes. My great grandmother died due to a botched illegal abortion when my grandmother was nine. My great grandma reportedly begged her husband to not have more kids because she physically and mentally couldn’t handle it and he insisted (can’t even imagine what she lived through). My grandmother’s life for years after that was absolutely awful and she married at 19 to get away. I hate the idea of abortion but understand why it needs to remain legal.
  8. I’m laughing at the questions regarding what is taught about Texas history. Every single history teacher I had was a coach and taught absolutely nothing (except the one who was a huge Lincoln\JFK conspiracy theorist and that’s all he taught). I was born and raised in Texas and couldn’t wait to get the heck out at 20. It’s just weird.
  9. The schools my dc attended until high school graduation all recited the pledge daily. My dc stopped standing and participating in high school. They asked Dh, a veteran, if it would offend him and he assured them it did not. I struggle with it as an adult and find most forms of US patriotism today uncomfortable.
  10. I would invite all the siblings and just deal. I was recently the only sibling left out of something. It really hurt and because I told them it hurt me they haven’t spoken to me in months. It’s caused a lot of issues.
  11. I was born and raised in Texas and no other state fair compares. It’s seriously one of the only reasons I ever travel back there. I think it’s the only thing about Texas I still like.
  12. Hardly anyone is masking at stores here either. I drive 20 minutes to a Fresh Thyme now because almost everyone who shops there is wearing a mask. The town my dc attends college reinstated a mask mandate inside all buildings so I’ll probably start doing some shopping there as well when we visit. I too wish they would stop only encouraging but would require.

I would direct aunt to speak directly with young adult. I actually had to do this with my own ds and sister earlier this year. FYI, it was a disaster because my sister reacted horribly but it was what needed to happen. I’m no longer going to be the go between with my young adults and my sister. It stinks but there’s really nothing else to do.
  14. I don’t do coffee but I make tea every morning and my teapot holds 27 ounces. So, I probably drink around 24 oz every morning and that’s it for my caffeine.
  15. I’m watching our schools closely as they’ve been back in session for over a week now and no masks are required. They keep a dashboard for each school and so far the high school has had the highest number of cases and that was only five (large high school of about 3000 students). A few elementary schools had one or two cases each. It will be interesting to see what happens.
  16. I’m up as soon as I wake. I have no reason for an alarm but I’m usually up around 7am. I do prefer to have my two cups of tea before doing anything but it’s just a preference and I can be ready to go within minutes. Usually on Saturdays, dh and I do roll out of bed and go before any tea. Dh also prefers his coffee first but he is wide awake as soon as he opens his eyes, which is also usually around 7am.
  17. Dh and I are doing an overnight train ride in September to visit his parents. I was able to get us an actual room with a bathroom but we’ll still be on the train for about 18 hours. I am unable to fly due to panic attacks so this is our best option right now. I don’t see us changing anything unless Amtrak shuts down. It’s worth it to us to be able to see them since it’s been over two years and they are in their 80s. So, I would go if vaccinated and felt it important to see those family members.
  18. Just popping in to quote myself and say that I’m now a blubbering mess because they move out in exactly one week (and they’ve started packing). 😢🤣
  19. No, just cold/flu like symptoms. Some didn’t feel great but were never worried or had any trouble breathing.
  20. I feel for those who live in Florida. Dh’s office is in Jacksonville, but we moved to another state years ago and he now works from home. Almost everyone he works with has said Jax is just on fire right now and so many of them and their families have/had it even though they were vaccinated. His office had only opened back up for two weeks, and only to those vaccinated, when it hit there. None have needed medical attention so that’s good but they all sound so miserable being in FL right now. If we still lived there, I don’t think we’d be leaving the house for anything vaccinated or not.
  21. At my dc’s university they have started sending out emails to those moving into dorms letting them know if their roommate has an exemption for the Covid vaccine (it doesn’t state reason for exemption - could be medical or religious). They have until Sunday to decide if they want to room with them or not. The university will accommodate students who don’t wish to room with someone not vaccinated and move them to a different room/roommate.
  22. We’re all vaccinated here. Both dc are returning to college campus and in person classes this month. Fortunately, dc’s university is requiring the vaccine and just reinstated a mask mandate for campus. I’m hoping requiring masks and vaccines will keep classes in person the whole year. Dh and I are being careful but we’re also still planning our fall vacation that includes seeing his parents. We can only put it off so long as they are in their 80s and really want to see us no matter what. We’re trying to find a balance.
  23. We’re starting our planning for it even though it’s not coming anytime soon. We’re selling our current house and planning to move to a Chicago suburb. We’ve visited several times and actually have friends nearby. We want to live somewhere that we can walk everywhere and rarely need use of a car. Both dc have talked often of living near Chicago as well (least expensive big city area we all enjoy) for the same reasons we want to be there, so we could all see each other easily. Our biggest concern was how high the taxes are but we’ve decided they’re well worth it after living in the types of places we’ve lived so far. Dh has worked from home for years and we’ve already travelled a bunch as it was a priority for us as dc were growing up, so we don’t feel a need to do so much of that later. We just want to live in a place where there is lots to enjoy locally and that is extremely walkable.
  24. About Time Return to Me So I Married an Axe Murderer Legally Blonde Gidget movies (used to watch these with my mom all the time when little and still enjoy) Anne of Green Gables
  25. We’re still planning on taking our trip that is end of September/beginning of October. We do have an overnight on a train (I can’t fly) but I booked us a bedroom with bathroom, so unless Amtrak cancels we’re going. Honestly, if Amtrak were to cancel we would just drive ourselves. I did purchase us a travel air purifier for the train and hotel rooms. Most of everything we’ve planned can be outside except the days we are staying at in laws house. We haven’t seen them in a few years and they want us to come no matter what so we are going.
