  1. Could you move the production to a grill? My cub scout cooked a pizza using a cast iron pot that was resting on coals and had coals on the lid.
  2. Finding the exactly right size container for leftovers Also, making enough salad to have precisely one serving left.
  3. Dh had ear plugs and the kids had over the ear protectors. Honestly if we go again, everyone would have and wear both.
  4. If you go to Monster Jam, consider doubling up on hearing protection. Ds is deaf (severe/profound hearing loss). He can hear sounds around the volume of a jet engine. Today dh took him to Monster Jam. They all had hearing protection but ds took his off to take his hearing devices off. He could not only hear the trucks but could hear that the announcer was talking! I’m glad I got to stay home with sick dd.
  5. Ds has been well enough yesterday and today todo schoolwork. He has a lingering cough but the fever and lethargy have gone. This is pre-diagnosis/medication behavior that pushes a bit past what we previously experienced. Our routine got thrown off by illness which is never a good thing. Hopefully tomorrow will go better. At least we have OT where he can get some of the sensory imput it’s hard to duplicate in a small house in the winter.
  6. DS was doing fairly well on his ADHD meds but he was sick with a cold that was not far from flu B symptoms (had a negative flu test). The past 2-3 days have been brutal with meltdowns over small things and impluse control issues such as flinging applesauce at this sister because she was done with dinner and he wasn’t. I feel at sea as to how to best deal with this. Is it related to him being sick and likely to go back to our even keel soon? We just added back 5mg Ritalin(short acting) for a total of10 twice a day to go with his Intuiv. We have to watch his appetite so we tread carefully with the stimulant. Any experience with this type of situation in the Hive? I plan to phone his psych office in the am just to update/get advice too.
  7. We blend it with milk, banana, and peanut butter, and some ice to make a shake for my son. I’ve also added it to his oatmeal.
  8. We just found out we are headed to Hawaii early this summer. Do any of you have advice/tips for managing the move and for homeschooling there? We’ve moved before but always drove and had the moving truck arrive within a week. I feel a bit over my head this time.
  9. We get food from hungryharvest.net. I’ve been very pleased with what we have gotten. It’s fun to try things you normally wouldn’t think to buy too.
  10. I’m the Shepard for our troop and we do anything denomination specific outside of regular troop time. It’s sort of funny, I grew up Presbyterian, became Catholic, and now Shepard a troop chartered at a Presbyterian church.
  11. The charter may be a church of a particular faith but look into if all the girls are from that place. You will likely find they are not. A troop is not supposed to be “Catholic†or “Protestantâ€. Our troop meets at a Protestant church and is almost 1/2 Protestant and 1/2 Catholic. Few of our girls knew each other prior to joining the troop.
  12. I always say that if DH is ever a CO I’ll have to learn to be a Navy wife. I don’t understand FRG’s either but given what you described I’d quit. I’ve never been involved in an FRG and survived 5 deployments plus smaller IAs over his 15 years in.
  13. :Hugs: I’m another in the terrible January boat and itlooks like February may not be much better. Here’s to hoping I’m wrong.
  14. Ds has ADHD and combined with his other challenges it makes life interesting. We had been doing good with a combination of lists and timers but he has discovered the power of stopping the timers. Example: we use a sand timer in the shower because without a cue he eould remain in there past the hot water running out and since he is deaf I can’t just yell for him to get out. He has started turning it back over (I know because I sometimes set a timer on my watch so I make sure I’m available to help him when he is done). We also used his watch timer for activities when he is out and about but he is actively stopping that one too. Ideas? Suggestions? I have thought about tying proper use of the timers into our established reward system but I may need other options as the reward process can take awhile to see results.
  15. DS is on the generic extended release form. For him it doesn’t work. We stepped up the dose gradually twice then had to back off because it caused a dramatic downturn in mood. We are seeing the sleepiness side effect as well and extreme lack of impulse control. Back to the drawing board for us. The stimulant we tried worked great but DS wasn’t eating as much as he needed to since he is supposed to be trying to gain some weight.
  16. It is not something you can choose to enroll in or not. If a military dependent meets the citeria, it is required that they enroll. We have seen sailors get into trouble for not enrolling. Like it was said earlier, EFMP does not provide services but makes sure the family member has the opportunity to be in a place where the services are available. If the family chooses to live in another location that is on them and some of the financial benefits may not be available. For instance if we chose to live away from dh and closer to my parents if he were stationed fora sea tour in Norfolk, we could but would not get family seperation allowance that we would get if he were stationed in Gulfport but we fell under Navy EFMP cat 5 which limits us to one of 5 cities.
  17. Thanks for the link! I now have anew place to go when we visit the in-laws.
  18. Each branch currently handles things a bit differently. We are a Navy family so it may differ slightly from Air Force. Navy classifies each EFMP into a category and there are restrictions based on that. We file paperwork every 3 years and they re-evaluate the category assignment. Currently DS can not be sent to a location overseas. At one point we we could only we sent to one of 5 major cities in the lower 48. DH, however, could and was sent overseas. He spent a year unaccompanied overseas. Especially if he is enlisting, as opposed to entering as an officer, I would not count on them being able to stay local. They will be sent somewhere that has the services/specialists needed but not necessarily close to you guys. ETA: looks like Air Force has a fairly comprehensive EFMP website. If you haven’t already, I would check it out. http://www.airforcemedicine.af.mil/Services/Exceptional-Family-Member-Program-EFMP/Air-Force-EFMP/
  19. Thanks for all the insight. I spoke with an airline rep and I am a confirmed passenger for both flights. Because I got an econmy fare, I was able to chose my seat for the first flight but for the second, I will be assigned a seat at the gate. So I have a seat, it just has not been assigned.
  20. I am flying tomorrow to go to a funeral. I booked the tickets last week (Delta basic economy fare) and thought all was good. Today I go to pick my seats and I am on standby for my 2nd flight. Is this common? I’m first on the list but this makes no sense to me. I can’t change the timing as I have someone meeting me at the airport which is 1 hour from my destination. Tbh I’m already stressed and this isn’t helping.
  21. What do I need to know? It’s a short trip and I will only have a carryon and purse. I have a 2.5 hour layover in Atlanta.
  22. Yes he has the memory needed on his phone. The macbook is 8 years old and on its last legs.
  23. Dh wants to back all his photos on his Macbook onto his phone. What is the best way to do this? iCloud is not a perferred option as he would have to pay for storage.
  24. Thanks! I am now signed up forth this. I had no idea that service existed!
