  1. What is going on? I come back from the terror known as a 5 year-old's birthday party and nothing new on this thread? I needed a laugh. At least dh volunteered to take ds to the party at a place that is like Chuck E. Cheese but bigger. Off to get a glass of wine.
  2. I don't find it strange to ask for a cell number specifically. Many people will text and if the distinction is not made then they may end up texting a number that does not recieve texts. I tend to assume that if someone specifically asks for my cell that this is what they intend. I would in no way be offended by the response OP gave though. I know not everyone uses cells in the same manner.
  3. I saw a car today that had "got hula" and the web address for a hula school on the rear window. I thought of this thread.
  4. I am afraid that KII would be too easy for her but it just looks so fun. She does understand one-to-one correspondence and has started doing her brothers simple addition while we do homework. She is also a child that I pushes every boundary there is concerning following directions so I am weighing starting with things she already knows (both programs do this) and work on the sitting, paying attention, and working aspects of learning. I keep going back and forth.
  5. I tried to watch it by myself and soon had 3 kids pushing in to watch.
  6. I'm trying to plan for dd5 next year. It is would be her K year and will be our first year homeschooling. She will join dd8 and ds7 for science, history, and art. I need Math and LA though. She knows her letters and letter sounds, is beginning to read CVC words, and can count to 100. I was looking at CLE KII to begin with and then learn to read and some easy math workbooks. I also have been considering Horizons for Reading and Math. CLE looks more fun but Horizons more rigorous. The Horizon samples are small so it's hard to tell if more than just writing is involved. Any sugestions? I'm feeling confused.
  7. I would not be comfortable with my youngbteen child texting any adult in a position of authority like you describe. I would want to be included on any text or e-mail about group activities so that I knew what was happening especially when I am having to drive them and pick thrm up. The driving to another town @ 1 am would have made me furious. I would gave let the youth minister know it was unacceptable and also brought it up with the pastor and/or church council and suggest that guidlines be established and published for such events. I don't necessarily see a real creep factor based on what you said but I do see a profound lack of respect for the parent's role in the family. For what it's worth I grew up Presbyterian and am now Catholic.
  8. I will gladly loan you our copy. I think it has been memorized by every member of the household.
  9. DS also has an impossible to fit waist. I have made tucks in almost every pair of non adjustable pants he owns.
  10. Glad your dad is safely home. Hopefully he will heal well. You are more than welcome to the beef short ribs that my children whined and complained about tonight.
  11. Can I come cuddle a cat? DH is extremely allergic to cats so only our Beagle baby @ our house.
  12. My elderly Beagle mix was @ the vet to have a growth on his leg removed. This growth had become bothersome for him, swollen, and was at risk for infection. While he was under anesthesia we asked the vet to clean his teeth. I got a call this afternoon letting me know a few teeth needed extraction and oh by the way, the doctor removed the small growth from Rupert's muzzle for free. That growth was small and caused no bother. Now poor pups has an incision right by his lip that is likely to be very uncomfortable once the pain meds wear off. I know doc thought he was doing a favor but it was not something we would have chosen. i can't vent to dh because he tends to overreact in situations but the whole situation is frustrating. I doubt we will return to this vet.
  13. My kids had deviled eggs for breakfast. (At least they were freshly made) That is all.
  14. Instead of ditching the coffee habit altogether maybe you could address the sugar crash part and gradually reduce what you add to your coffee. It has helped me reduce my post coffee slump. Decaf might help but you may still need to check the sugar content of your add-ins.
  15. Thanks! I figured it would work but figured I'd ask those with experience.
  16. We have decided on this for next year but now I am struggling with the sequence. It begins with weather but we currently live in a "weather light" area and will be moving to an area with more noticable weather changes around Dec. should I postpone those lessons or would it throw off the flow of the curriculum? Anybody have any experience with this?
  17. We have renters and they must go through our property manager for repairs. In this case it sounds as if the repair request would go straight to the landlord. I would not be happy if our renters let someone not licensed to make repairs. I think OP should tell the helpful neighbors "I'm sorry but any repairs need to go through Mrs. X. It is a liability issue and I don't want anyone to get into trouble. " If the helpful neighbors do inadvertently cause damage the OP would be responsible.
  18. Finally! A place where I fit in! Count me in!
  19. *KILT ALERT* Just saw a news story on Yahoo.....a tennis player named Andy Murray got married in Scotland......pictures have many good looking guys in kilts. You'll have to google for yourself. I didn't want to risk it by trying to link here.
  20. While we were watching Treehouse Masters this evening, the channel suddenly switched to a feed of a giraffe birth from the Dallas zoo. My children were enthralled until dd8 saw blood.
  21. Paw Patrol might work. It is dogs that have special roles and solve problems. My 5 and 7 year-olds like it.
  22. They use soybean oil. However, if my underweight, hypoactive thyroid, picky eater will eat it then it's okay with me.
  23. We never got to the Space museum in VA so can't help there. I agree with PP, the zoo is just a zoo. There are so many other things to see I would give it a pass.
