  1. After Lands End, we used size 18 slim in JCPenney’s Arizona brand and bought online. It was hit or miss finding them though. Like the others, American Eagle is where we finally ended up.
  2. I have no experience with these science courses, but it looks like you could still join in on their intensives: https://hscollegebound.com/Science-Intensives.htm a self-paced option: conceptualacademy.com
  3. Check the back of the book. I think there’s a timeline after the main text. (We use the audiobook more than the physical book, so it’s been a while since I looked at a physical book.)
  4. I have no good solutions except to use only trusted sources or previewing episodes. For a short while, I controlled it through my phone and let them have a Bluetooth speaker in their room. But it got cumbersome.
  5. “The Problem” by the Regenstrief Institute NPR’s “Planet Money” isn’t about science or world affairs but always entertaining. and of course, “Brains On” for science.
  6. @BlsdMama did you ever end up buying anything? Inspiration did not hit me this summer, so I’m ready to purchase inspiration. also did you see the Cindy Rollins’s Handbook of Morning Time is back in print in a revised version? It’s on Amazon.
  7. Is there an easy way to search what books (for the learning to read crowd) are able to utilize the Immersion Reading feature? Any way to do this with the Kindle Unlimited option? Or with the Audible premium plus catalog? Or are there blogs where moms have created lists of books already? (I know I'm asking for a unicorn.)
  8. Angelina Stanford’s middle school class does this at a very gentle pace. My kids did the self paced option this past year and enjoyed it. (And Animal Farm was one of the selections this past year!) https://houseofhumaneletters.com/
  9. A short term solution might be a summer sublease near one of the universities
  10. Do they work? Yes. I find them better than nothing. But sometimes I want it to be more cooling. I’ve tried frog togs (Walmart has them for pretty cheap, sometimes at the B&M store) and a more fabric-y one like you linked. I found the fabric-y got stinky much faster than the frog togs and warmed up faster than FT. And I’ve had one of blue FTs bleed onto a light green FT.
  11. Re: investing/stock market Maybe ask for an online class too to make it more educational like one from outschool or from Funda Funda. So ask for a class and money. re: flint and steel. You can link her to Townsends.us for supplies and advertise it as historical reenactment. re: cooking. What abt cooking historical recipes? Check out the Townsends YouTube channel and the Tasting History with Max YouTube channel to try to hook your DS and mom.
  12. Book darts box of donuts or macarons personalized note pad (Shutterfly’s pads are nice and thick paper) someone once posted here about lovepopcards.com fancy/gourmet spices like from Spice House.
  13. you could probably sub the turkey in for the beef in this recipe: https://www.foodiewithfamily.com/15-minute-korean-style-beef/ I mad this the other day, but no one really liked it - perhaps too bland for our taste buds? https://www.thespicehouse.com/blogs/recipes/cheesy-southwest-breakfast-casserole lettuce wraps? this type of recipe is on my to-try list: https://www.eatyourselfskinny.com/healthy-turkey-lettuce-wraps/ This curry recipe was linked on this forum before: https://dailycookingquest.com/indian-keema-ground-beef-curry.html We do something very similar with whatever ground meat and enjoy it.
  14. model rockets? Along those same lines, an engineer friend told me he built a V8 Visible Engine model as a kid that taught him a lot. And then there are those wooden models of da Vinci's ideas or just marble roller coasters. Have you tried the logic of "a cooking gift to DS is also a gift to me since it's one less time I have to cook"? Is she local that she could attend a cooking class with your DS? We have a macaron class in our big city. Or a cake decorating class? What about cash as a learning experience on how to cash a check/portion out to charity/ decide on best option, etc.
  15. This. I just laid out my hopes for summer when we do school-lite, tallied up the ideal durations for each item, and .... yikes! It isn’t very light at all. Back to the drawing board for me. My kids should be very thankful for the 180-day law. 😛
  16. We currently have a Yamaha DGX-660 and are pleased with it. (I wanted all the extra sounds to entice the kids.) One unforeseen consequence of owning this digital that I never anticipated is that it trains your ear to a perfectly tuned piano. We recently went to a piano showroom of acoustic pianos, and there were so many pianos there whose sounds just made me wince. They were in tune, but I can now hear a big difference between a spinet and a full upright and a grand. In other words, my tastes in acoustic pianos have gotten more refined (i.e. expensive) due to owning a digital keyboard. 😜. A decent, used acoustic piano will cost me thousands not hundreds from a reputable piano store unless there’s a Craigslist miracle out there.
  17. I do not like the iBook version of the poetry (maybe the kindle version will be different). MCT uses letters as graphics and often spreads it across both the left and right pages. The iBook version will only show 1 page at a time, and then you end up losing the power of the graphics. it bothered me so much that I ended up buying a physical copy afterwards for my younger kids. If you wanted to cast it to the TV, maybe take a landscape picture of the book lying open and then cast that picture. (Note that there isn't currently an electronic version of the teacher's manual for the poetry books; it's complicated.)
  18. Wow! What kind of evaluation did you get? What prompted you to ask for one?
  19. Rollo candy softened in the oven and then sandwiched between ritz crackers. https://www.food.com/recipe/rolo-stuffed-ritz-crackers-521199
  20. @Hunter Don Potter also has a copy of Alpha-phonics available. Click on the link contained in item #1 on this page: http://www.donpotter.net/reading_clinic.html
  21. Are mosquitos and flies an issue in June? What are the worst months for bugs?
  22. Yes - but then I’d consider it a very expensive supplement.
