  1. Some initial questions that came to mind…….. Is your trackpad working correctly  with other applications on your Mac?  Did you try rebooting your computer?  Do you happen to have a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard connected that might be inadvertently interfering?

  2. This person advertises 1-on-1 tutoring for math classes. https://www.lang4life.com/math/

We took his Chinese class on Outschool, and he was nice and encouraging. But we were using his course for casual learning.

Last I checked, Outschool also had  people offering 1-on-1 tutoring for English courses.

I wonder, though, if you would have to provide the curriculum/scope/sequence or if these tutors have a whole semester’s worth of lesson plans ready to use.

Varsity Tutors may also be worth investigating.

So my whole family enjoys our Happy Masks and they work well for what we use them for. …….. For reference, my husband wears an XL mask, my son and I wear a medium and my daughter wears a small.

    Here are our family’s preferences:

    • small happy mask (with a small face) >> kids posh
    • small happy mask (with a larger face) >> kids bluna
    •  medium happy mask >> adult posh  (adult Bluna works too)
    • Larger faces who were in between a medium & large Happy Mask >> adult Bluna (BOTNs fit but weren’t as durable)

I got a free sample of a Blue brand 2D non adjustable KF94 and was surprised at how well it fit me (medium happy mask). The fit was like a happy mask.

IMO BOTN runs bigger than Bluna.   And I had to switch from behealthyusa.net to https://kollecteusa.com to buy Blunas this last time.

I guess the SLP forgot to ask ASHA.

(read the following with a  surprised tone and not an accusatory tone) So then you’re saying that SLP reports will provide the documentation needed for IEPs, access to Bookshare, etc for dyslexics?

  5. Recently, I confirmed with a Speech Language Pathologist that a SLP cannot diagnose Dyslexia.  So by extension, I’d assume an OT can’t diagnose dysgraphia.

I’m not an expert, but I’d guess you would want a Neuropsychologist in order to get a diagnosis (which you’d need for accommodations at academic institutions).

  6. Check out @ElizabethB's resources at http://www.thephonicspage.org. The Laubach series seems like it would take a long time to work through, IMHO.  ElizabethB's program seems more efficient.  I might also use ABeCeDarian as a framework; I've found it super efficient for my kid learners.

I'm surprised that the literacy foundation didn't provide any support or training or resources.  Maybe your library has some resources or contacts.

Can he read his native language?

This friendship fiction thing is kind of a winner. I'm googling lists here

    https://www.readbrightly.com/books-on-friendship-for-tweens/

    https://www.readbrightly.com/books-about-friendship-for-middle-grade-readers/

Looks like I should look around Read Brightly more, lol. Also I'm wondering what "feel good books for tweens" would turn up. Or maybe not, lol.

https://www.readbrightly.com/best-books-of-2020-tweens/  This list had a few. Tornado looks good. It's about a dc with sensory issues.

Well let's just say "positive thinking" does not turn up helpful stuff, lol. Apparently that means suck it up when the whole situation is bad, lol.

Well those are certainly newer books!  😆

Echo Mountain is a great book BUT probably not good for a highly sensitive child. Like you said, good stories are often based upon making the most out of a bad situation.

Edit:  One and Only Ivan is on the middle list … amd it’s the first book that came to mind on what NOT to suggest for this thread. I was getting choked up listening to it as I drove down the interstate - not a particularly good combo.

    The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street.

We just finished this one, and there’s a character who’s living in the shadow of a sad event. It didn’t bother us, but maybe it would bother some kids.   The whole book definitely doesn’t have deep sorrow woven throughout it; I just wanted to pass along a heads-up. It’s a great book!
