  1. Personally, I would isolate the kitty that I was trying to rehome. I'd let the other one have the run of the house, since it will be living there from now on. I am quite sure that a room in the house with all the amenities is better than a cage at a shelter, and many cats live like that quite contentedly for years. I have found with mine that consistency is important. They will get used to whatever you do, given time. But changing constantly only messes things up and keeps them constantly wanting what they can't have (in my case, it is outside cats that I made inside cats). If you do the same thing always, they will eventually settle into things.
  2. I have a Fitbit One and it has been really accurate. From my research I did before buying one, the ones that you wear on your torso are more accurate than the ones you wear on your arm.
  3. If he is like most men I know, he turns the heat way up to get things done faster. That is what DH does, and makes a total mess. Get an inside grill with removable plates to make clean up easier.
  4. Another vinyl glove user. I wear them any time I am handling icky raw meat. Not because of bacteria, but because I can't stand trying to wash off the nasty, greasy stuff afterward, along with getting it from under my fingernails. Yuck!
  5. Thanks. Sounds like I will be avoiding this show. I love weird/dystopian type stuff like this, but not the language and sex.
  6. I watched the very first one last week and just couldn't stand all the useless profanity, so decided not to watch any more. Is the whole series like that?
  7. I'm not sure, since I already do try to exercise and eat halfway decently. My downfall is sweets, though. I guess I'd be more likely to change/give up things if I was absolutely convinced it would make a difference. As it is, there is so much contradictory information, and family experience doesn't help. My dad was a healthy, active, fit, thin man. His blood pressure was actually a bit low, and he ate pretty healthy (lots of beans, cabbage, eggs - very little sugar). Same goes for one of his brothers. Dad died of a sudden massive heart attack at the age of 58. His brother died of cancer 6 weeks later. My mom is 72, has been on blood pressure meds and thyroid meds for years, eats all kinds of junk, is about 45 pounds overweight, but rarely gets sick and is in good shape just from doing everyday things (cleaning, moving furniture, carrying and lifting things, etc.) She never purposely exercises or does any kind of active hobby like Dad did (hunting, fishing, bow shooting, a physically demanding factory job). She has 3 older sisters and 2 younger ones still living. They, like her, eat what they want, don't exercise on purpose, are a bit overweight, on bp meds and others. So I'm just not sure there is any proof that anything I would change would actually be helpful.
  8. I have them in my family. My parents and grandparents were mountain people. There were only a few families anywhere near. My grandma and her sister married brothers. Then, my mom and her twin brother married brother (my dad) and sister. So their two kids are my double first cousins. Oh, and also, my mom's double first cousin married my dad's brother. So she is my mom's SIL as well as cousin. Not sure what that makes their kids to me. They are first cousins and also the children of my mom's cousin, so..... Anyway, nobody who got married was blood related at all, so I don't see any weirdness.
  9. Neato! I just ordered one from Amazon. I ordered the 2017-2027 one because it is 10.00 cheaper, but also because I can go back and copy stuff from my current journal into the 2017 spaces and already get to write in it lots! :-)
  10. I love Barry Manilow! And he truly is one of the easiest to sing along with!
  11. I am with you on not thinking dry toilet paper does the job. We use regular baby wipes and keep a lidded trash can with a bag next to the toilet for putting them in (along with pads, etc. that cannot be flushed). I know it still contributes to trash produced, but then, so does toilet paper, and I am not giving that up, for sure.
  12. I had a bunch, but here were the top two. Dark Matter Pause to Rewind
  13. I'm another Goodreads user. I don't use the social aspect either. Just use it to keep track of what I read and find suggestions. I also rate and sometimes review what I read, but only for myself, so I remember things about the books. I like that you can have separate shelves, and I have one called "gave up on" for books I started but just could not finish for whatever reason. I will usually post a note about what I didn't like about it. That keeps me from starting the same books over and over just because I see them recommended somewhere.
  14. I find it gross too, but not for germ reasons. Just spit reasons, lol. When I was little, we didn't have running water inside, so we kept a big metal tub/pan of water in the kitchen with a dipper hanging on the side. If anybody wanted a drink, they drank out of the dipper. I remember there being one of those at some other people's houses back then, too, so I think it was pretty common.
  15. Another box fan user here. I haven't found a noise machine that has a low, deep, loud enough sound to suit me.
  16. Perfectly normal questions where I live. Everyone is very "familiar" and casual. It does tend to freak out people who aren't from "around here" though. :-)
  17. I haven't read the article, but have no idea what form you are talking about. We did RE (mine are graduated), and only had to write a letter stating our beliefs, as well as have 2 friends or relatives write letters confirming. Then, once a year, the school board would send a letter asking if anything had changed and I would send a sentence stating that nothing had changed. The school board is allowed to ask, but not required. And if they do not ask, nothing is required of the homeschool. Just like in non RE homeschooling in VA, you are not required to use the forms the schools provide, and I never did, even before going to RE.
  18. We ( me, my mom, my sister) use t-fal. Got our most recent ones from Amazon.
  19. We use Tomcat mouse attractant gel that we get at Walmart or Tractor Supply. We have rats, but have caught 4 so far with this stuff, whereas we didn't catch any with peanut butter. I like that it only takes a tiny amount and that it doesn't attract any other animals. Because it is a gel, they aren't able to steal it and run off with it without setting the trap either. Lest anybody freak out, the rats were in our detached garage, not our house, lol.
  20. Oh, I call cardigans sweaters too. I was just pointing out that even though it isn't a pullover, my mom still calls it a sweater as well. Actually, she calls t-shirts t-shirts. I forgot about those. But any other women's pullover, she calls a sweater.
  21. I differentiate the way most pps have. However, my mom calls every pullover top a sweater, no matter what it is made of or the length of sleeves. She also calls cardigans sweaters. Anything else that buttons up, she calls a shirt.
  22. Hmm. Maybe you are onto something. My house does have higher ceilings than my mom's house. Not cathedral, but still higher than mom's.
  23. I did too, but had forgotten all about it.
