  1. That's it exactly Sassenach :) Especially when there's no allownace in grading for the slackers. They are too-often an all or nothing thing. I once dropped a class because, on the first day, the prof had people draw a name to partner with and the two were supposed to write a paper together. I changed to another. I'm very particular about academic writing and I'm good at it...I wasn't willing to risk the class grade (or my GPA) on a paper that was half our semester grade.
  2. I think that's a perfect description of post-40 grad school! I love the format and discussions. When I first started the idea of reading 2 entire books a week (never light reading) blew my mind. Now? I look at a book less than 400 pages and call it a fast read..LOL!
  3. Congrats EL! Seems like yesterday you were just getting into classes :) (Where are the dancing balloons??)
  4. So what is everyone doing for the summer? I'm flying out to spend a week with my brother and family on May 5. WE'll be sorting through more of Mom's stuff, then my 17 year old and I will be driving back home, from South Carolina to Montana. She's already begun to make Thelma & Louise jokes. :)
  5. Good luck on the exam! Now see? That right there is why I avoid group projects if there is any way possible.
  6. This is the first semester in years that I haven't had a big long paper (or two) to write and it's so nice. Usually the last 2 weeks are insane.
  7. Me! I am hoping that the clubs will slowly get back to normal. I have one film to watch, a 2 page write-up, and one last meeting with my prof on Tuesday morning and that's it for the summer, baby :) It can't come too soon, either. With the loss of Momn this semester, it's been a strange and difficult one. I"ve been more in 'head down push through mode' than in 'inspired' mode.
  8. This exactly. I think this is a bad idea for both parties.
  9. Would a new group be here or somewhere else? If here, I don't see much difference than keeping this one and stuff there may vanish too as they tweak the groups. HOwever, I'm good wherever we land. :) Thanks so much Amira!
  10. Since I went back to school, I had to switch to the summer camps. November is at the time of the semester winding down and doing research adn writing final papers, so adding in novel writing just doesn't happen. The camps are fun but I miss the fun and ferocity of November! I still follow the forums and all the writing pals I've made over all my years of Nano :) As for Scrivener, I like the style, though I also write in chapters, not scenes in separate docs. I just stick a little divider line in between scenes for reference. I like the style of Scrivener (I use the windows version) but I keep looking for something similar but less complicated/pared down but similar. There's so much in Scrivener I don't ever get to it all and keep having to look up how to do stuff. It's not all that intuitive, for me. I use it, though, for writing academic papers - mostly for the laying out the research notes I'll use and making the outline but for papers I write in Word. Scrivener is kinda clunky for footnotes and such. I've been playing with Dabbler too, and like it but find it still a little sparse on tools. I love the layout though and am looking forward to see where it goes. Great work on all the words so far!
  11. November is always my worst month for bronchitis/pneumonia/asthma issues. Here, I think it's because the leaves have all fallen and are starting to decay as it begins to snow and it always sets me off.
  12. Oh my gosh I miss Duke's mayo. I've bee out of the south a long time and cannot get it here. I STILL miss it :)
  13. I used to stick it out no matter what but no more. I even made it through The Nanny Diaries and that's a few days i'll never get back. It was so bad it made me mad that I'd lost the time and I've never had any book make me mad at myself for reading it. It's the one that cured me of sticking with bad books. I'll give a book a few chapters to see if it even has a glimmer of hope and if not? Goodbye. I ditched two bestsellers, once because every single character was so awful I couldn't take it. Even 'bad guys' need to have some reason for the reader to invest in them and these people had none. The other was beyond depressing and again, no redeeming qualities at all. Grad school is another reason. I have so many books these days I have to get through that when it comes to pleasure reading, if it's not a pleasure, it's gone.
  14. What you're wanting to do if filter the list members. This should help, scroll down to filtering: https://www.gcflearnfree.org/googlespreadsheets/sorting-and-filtering-data/1/
  15. WHen I got acrylic on my clothes in art classes in college, I used dishwashing liquid and that worked as I recall.
  16. I've had iron issues all my life and when I was pregnant, it was always worse. The shortness of breath can absolutely be linked to low iron. It was with me and mine was really low. The doc had me eat an orange or have OJ or some other Vit. C source with it. Some do absorb better and are easier on the stomach. I like Feosol (carbonyl iron). It's easier on the system for me that ferrous sulfate and works better.
  17. I use Aussie sprunch spray too, to scrunch curls after drying and it works great. On wet hair I use Schwarzkopf's Got2B Kinkier spray gel. It's amazing and really defines the curl. Both are dirt cheap.
  18. I grew up on KK doughnuts and adore them. I also had the crazy urge to move to Montana where there are no KK's in the entire state. I've not had one in 15 years. :(
  19. AHh Tiger Beat...that takes me back :) Also 16 was another in that vein. We used to devour those magazines and read 'em till they fell apart..LOL.
  20. I feel your pain. I need 36" inseams too and they are almost impossible to come by, save Levi's. I have some form Long Tall Sally (ordered online) and they are okay but were really pricey and I wouldn't order them again as there were some minor construction issues that didn't mean sending back but that bug me all teh same.
  21. I agree Sparkly. I gripe about this all the time :) Love the thread title - made me laugh!
  22. When you got the shareable link, did you set it so anyone could edit? If it was set to view only, that may be why it put your revisions in a new page.
  23. I just read Remini's book - read it in 2 sittings. It's a pretty fast read and she goes into some detail about the teachings and requirements. Scientology has some warped views of family and parent/child bonds, as she relates in her discussion of the 'base' in Florida where they spent quite a bit of time when she was a teen. Altogether, it's pretty crazy. It does seem as if Tom Cruise's wedding was the turning point. As she describes it in the book, it seems she witnessed a lot of hypocrisy among the higher-ups while in Italy and when she reported it, the deep-seated vindictiveness turned into a big backlash against her. She even mentions that, during her time on Dancing With The Stars immediately after she left Scientology, that her professional partner was often followed around when he left the studio. She does discuss her missing persons report regarding Shelly Miscavige, and includes an image of it. According to Leah Remini, the police never saw Mrs. Miscavige - she says that they spoke to Scientology's main attorney, who assured them she was just fine. I was poking around a few days ago and came across a couple of reports on line (no idea how reliable) that Shelly Miscavige has been spotted just a few weeks ago in Crestline, CA. They described her as looking very frail and looking like she was homeless. One noted she acted as if she was drugged. Both reports, which say she came into a couple of local businesses, said she was with two younger men who were leading her around. Take these for what they are worth, of course.
  24. What about a bionder - Franklin Covey, Daytimer, Filofax, etc - and print a monthly calendar? There are oodles of free printables online so you should be able to find a month that works for you. A month on 2 pages sounds like what you need so you'll have more space.
