  1. I was going to say, TSP, too. Then go over the wall with clean water to wipe off TSP residue. If walls end up spotty - well, at least you know they are clean and ready to paint when warm enough to open windows. I painted very high up on our house by using the doohicky that fits on the end of a pole and clamps onto a paint brush or roller.
  2. Get a local attorney. The insurance companies will have them, and it is in their interest to NOT pay your folks as much as they deserve. My hubby is an attorney (not able to practice in OK alas) and it took a LOT for even him to deal with getting our money after we were badly injured in a car accident in which we were NOT at fault. Eventually we had all our medical bills covered (our insurances, auto and medical, paid then they went after getting reimbursed by the other party...who had no insurance and later declared bankruptcy. Good thing we had good insurance!) But we could not accept the settlement until one hospital was tricked (seriously ) into BILLING about $60,000 worth of charges (for my 2+ week rehab stay) - they had tried first to simply put a lien on our settlement instead!!! Other hospitals did, too, but hubby convinced them they had to bill insurance instead. You do not know what is going to go down, dealing with insurers, medical billers, etc. Plus there is the pain and suffering aspect - I believe broken bones qualify one for a higher amount, in our case, though, we simply got the max we had coverage for already from our auto insurance since the other party had nothing and declared bankruptcy. Attorney time!!!!!
  3. Having played Ticket to Ride a few times with dd and her almost finance (they are the ones moving across country in three weeks!) I am getting them the Ticket to Ride - Europe version. We will probably play it Christmas afternoon, time permitting.
  4. I had a neighbor go through chemo, drove her when she felt unwell, and doubt he will be able to drive himself if they can’t live in the small community where the job is. Nearest place with more housing is about an hour drive away. Daughter can’t be driving him an hour each way back and forth daily as she will continue her job as accounts receivable person for a shipping company (she’s been working remote since March anyway). Obviously during a pandemic car pooling not an option. While her aunt, my SIL, and two cousins live in the community an hour from his job, they can’t be his drivers daily either. Of course the bigger hospitals and specialists are not in the smaller town where the job is. I really think he is being unrealistic about moving at this time, and may have to risk them not holding the job. Meanwhile I have to help dd pack...she has been on her own for a couple years, and has a townhome full of stuff to deal with. He was able to live with his folks while finishing his doctorate, so has far less to move. Of course, there is no apartment or anything even lined up yet.... she will need to continue paying money each month for HOA and state taxes, but at least mortgage company cool with no actual mortgage payments. Yep, part of our car crash insurance money is her mortgage from Bank of Mom and Dad. Anything she doesn’t need or want to move we can deal with after they leave before cleaning up the place to sell. I did get hubby to buy dd’s sedan off her since his car needs replacing, we gave her blue book trade in value, and she used the money as down payment on a larger vehicle that can hold a cooler, food, etc. They have a good friend who is a nurse on leave for a couple months who has offered to drive his car across country so he won’t have to...they just have to pay for her hotel room and a plane ticket back home. Of course, last Friday he got into a fender bender and his car may or may not be repairable in time.....I think the powers that be are trying to send him a message! They need to travel with two cars since can’t fit a dog, two cats, litter boxes and pet food and human food etc AND the computers etc needed for work into just one car. Aaaaaaarrrrggghhhh
  5. Since dd doesn't want extended family to know about boyfriend 's diagnosis, and I can't post on FB, needed to vent/unload here.
  6. In one month dd and boyfriend, two cats and a dog, will be arriving in New Mexico, where his job starts second week of January. No place to stay yet, and it almost got delayed since he just got a medical diagnosis that will mean chemo etc. starting once they arrive. Doc. advises not traveling once chemo starts, so have to go after doing prep here (port, etc) or risk losing job since can't expect it to be held six months. Not happy. I was already fretting about them traveling, driving and dealing with Covid AND dd's severe egg allergy (so no buying fast food etc on the way). Stupid lymphoma.
  7. Our microwave lives on a cart by the basement door next to the fridge, and gets multiple daily use to warm up leftovers, or heat pre-made oatmeal, etc. I HATE seeing over the stove models - but then I am too short to easily use them.
  8. My cousins in California had it a few months ago, happily not too ill and no side affects seemingly. Here, hubby's home brew beer club switched from meeting in person monthly to weekly zoom meetings...good thing, since more than one member ended up with the virus AFTER the physical meetings stopped. One daughter's boyfriend got sick after Thanksgiving - we had been around him...so stayed in quarantine until he got his negative test (he has a man cold). Same daughter, who still lives at home, works in the local school district, and spend the week dealing with kids over her laptop. Now the district is back on distance learning anyway ... if they try to resume hybrid in January I fear this daughter will be the one who brings "Rona home.
  9. I don't wear a mask when out walking the Labrador, but then again, there is almost no one else out in my neighborhood...except other folk walking their dogs, and a block or so away from each other one of us will cross the street. But usually I am the only person out outside. I do have one in my pocket just in case. Last night one daughter and I went to a nearby neighborhood that each year has award-winning houses all lit-up for the season. We were the ONLY people with masks on!!!!and about half of the walk had to go next to the street or in the street to avoid family groups. True, each family group is probably in its own bubble, and each clump of folks kept 20 or more feet apart, but still...
  10. Yup, that was me. Leg still sore off and on, below the knee, where there are rods and multiple screws holding me together, but overall we are in decent shape. Youngest graduated college with...a teaching degree!...and now works for our local public school district. She does come to me for advice from time to time, as a lot of her degree was educational theory, etc., and the latest fad in teaching math. She hates doing her job from home...she graduated in December 2020, and barely started her first job before it went to distance learning.
  11. Hey! I can post now! And it remembered me - ok, over 10,000 posts. But at least I am back. Wheee!!!
  12. For past couple years I've only been able to read, not post, from computer. Used to be far more active, with over 12,000 posts if I recall....now restarting as newbie ; - ) if this computer cooperates....
  13. Thanks, I am sharing this info with DD. I had SillyAutismBoy on a rotation diet DECADES ago.....time to refresh m memory!
  14. Dd asked me to ask what you think may have caused puffy face, itchy eyes and projectile up chucking 15 minutes after eating this egg-free product. She is concerned she may be developing an allergy to something else, too. Dailya cheesy mac....supposedly egg-free
  15. Ps forgot to add, this is my kid who had her gall bladder removed as a teen. So we know it isn't that! ?
  16. 6/20 Latest wrinkle - sil reminded us one of her dd, cousin to my dd, had anaphylactic response to something, ER, extensive testing...docs ended up thinking a systemic response to mycoplasma bacteria. So dd will ask doc to test her for that, too. I can find little info on mycoplasma critters causing what looks like food allergies....note niece did not respond positive on any food allergy testing either. So maybe this is what ails dd? Anyone heard or read of anything like this? Closest I can find is a scant number of cases of tick bites causing meat allergies thanks to these mycoplasma critters. Note niece lives in New Mexico and dd in Illinois, no contact between them since niece fell ill in February. UPDATE. Looks like she is developing a nut/legume allergy too. She has her epi pen, and next week is work is giving her a work laptop to use at the allergist office as he is doing an " oral challenge" since her skin and blood tests are negative. She is not happy. Doc wants her to minimize corn, too ( which is in everything pretty much) since her grandma had a corn allergy (mil). Typing on iPad since can not post on new boards no matter what via computer. Anyway - dd, 24, developed what she thought was an egg allergy a couple months ago. Eat eggs, or anything with even a trace of egg, and get nauseated, also throat starting to hurt and lips getting "fuzzy" feeling. There are a few folks on hubby's side of family that do have food allergies, including egg, so seems probable she has one. Except doc did blood test which was negative. Dd went to a second doc, this time an allergist. Skin test in office was negative....yet an hour later she felt the nausea and throat and lip thing again. Called doc and they had come back, gave her Zertext? Or something with a z, and monitored her. She felt better and left after another hour.Today they got blood work back ....again, negative. So does anyone know of any metabolic or other ailments that might mimic an allergy, even to symptoms leaning towards anaphylactic response? she has felt better with antihisamines, and the doc gave her a script to get an epi-pen just in case. ps blame all typos on my fat fingers having to type this on an iPad. Seriously, I can not log on and type anything on any other device.
  17. Btw I have over 10,000 posts, don't know where this "new me" came from.
  18. Ok, I see my post ... But still can NOT type any response to it on the computer! I hate using the iPad as am now doing so doubt I will be around much any longer. Ah, well. And, yes, Justin has been working to fix this issue but since I am still not able to access boards via computers I give up. ?
  19. Seeing if single finger typing on iPad works, since have not been able to post or reply to a post at ALL via either of our computers since new boards came up.
  20. I have a couple big metal spoons, but I "borrowed" them from Mom's kitchen drawer when I moved out 40 years ago.. I think one of them she had "borrowed" from her mom :-) So check the kitchen drawers of your older relatives for decent spoons. I think one was Revere ware.Nope - cheked - Reed & Barton. You might try Ebay of used 8 inch spoons like that. These Oneida stainless there look sturdy - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Oneida-Community-Twin-star-set-of-2-solid-serving-spoons-stainless-flatware/183101191959?hash=item2aa1ae7717:g:WtQAAOSwB15alzCC
  21.     I once had to stop a temp FedEx man from carrying a huge box with a baby stroller up to my house -his GPS told him to deliver it here but he was on the wrong street and wrong house number (I did get him to find the package I was expecting from the back of his truck) and from his white face I think he realized stupid GPS had had him deliver stuff to the wrong addresses his entire shift!!! HOWEVER - since no one knows about bomber's activity his last 24 hours, calling the police was the wise move!!!
  22. Has he lost anything else, or had a change in demeanor? If he does not seem ok at the 9 month check-up, you can ask about post-flu PANS or PANDAS. Evidently it does not only strike after strep, but flu can trigger it, too. Just might be harder to detect in such a young child. However, as someone whose kid did not get properly diagnosed with a treatable condition that severely affected his ability to process sounds until age FIVE (hearing was fine, it was his brain that was not working properly) I tend towards the check stuff sooner rather than later camp. But at this stage, if he has only stopped with some early sounds, I think you can wait a bit to see if they come back. On the other hand, your (foster) mama instincts did make you post your concerns...
  23. Sympathy. Could you get a sleep study done? Of course, you have to fall asleep for it to work :-(..... I agree, a trial of Trazodone may be in order. DS was on that for months until alas, it stopped working for him. Now he is using Remeron. Also lavender scent - supposed to help.
  24. Is this for a young child to read, or a teen? A Tree Grows in Brooklyn comes to mind, but there is a failed abduction by a pervert in it, and towards the end the girl Francie is grown and almost has sex with a soldier leaving for WWI. Tree takes Francie from age 11 to older teen a hundred years ago. I love this book!
