  1. I don't usually see a lot of presidential candidate signs here, so that's normal for my area. Always a LOT of local candidates signs though.
  2. My first thought was that it meant tell us your very favorite brands for 3 items you use a lot.
  3. We bought an Ikea Kura for my son when he was younger. It's nice (not as high as a traditional bunk, has the space underneath), but what he didn't like was: 1-the recommended mattress felt too thin and uncomfortable for him 2- he rolled around a lot at night, and his legs and arms hitting the sides of the bed made a loud noise
  4. I agree with having your son visit with the IB counselor. I recall that at my kids' school at the beginning of freshman year, an unusual number of kids suddenly dropped the program during the first month. Some of the teachers and the IB counselor talked to the remaining kids and told them to Please come and talk to them first if they were feeling overwhelmed or having problems After that, no one dropped until after the first year was over. For us, the early mornings have probably been one of the biggest downsides. My boys have made some very good friends though--they have found 'their people' so to speak, and that has made a huge difference for them between just getting through the day, and enjoying the program. IIRC I think your son is fairly social, so in time he'll probably find people he enjoys, form message groups to talk about school stuff, maybe get together out of school too. As a parent it helped me to reconsider the alternatives, which for us were back to homeschooling, or regular high school. :)
  5. Hi Halcyon! My boys are juniors in IB at public school, after homeschooling through 8th grade. I am on my way out with now...feel free to pm me, or I can write more later.
  6. Happybeachbum, you have a lot of interesting things to say! Maybe start joining some of the current threads and conversations? :)
  7. He's on tour right now! You still have a chance to see him. 4+ hours!
  8. Maybe something some Roots? I have a Roots handbag and it's made in Canada, and the leather and construction quality are excellent, especially for the price. They have a more sporty look. And they periodically send out discount codes. Not sure about having a checkbook holder though, with the other features you want. http://www.roots.com/us/en/leather/wallets/
  9. So many of my favorite bands came out in the 90's! I'm glad some of them are still around. Tool, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Cranberries, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, STP, Weezer, on and on....
  10. Check Ulta's website too. They frequently have coupons and deals.
  11. I taught a class at one of these types of schools. What weighed on me the hardest was that most of the students were just trying to improve their lives by going back to school. Many of them were in way over their heads in my class. I had to water down the class horribly and I only failed the students who made no effort to show up or turn in work. Overall, very nice people. Most of them needed SO much remedial help and I felt so bad that I couldn't do more, given my measly adjunct pay. I wanted to ask a few of the better students why they didn't go to the local university or community college but that would have been a big NONO.
  12. We didn't do all of the reviews in any of the Singapore books and did even fewer of them in 6A and 6B, with no problems. It really depends on the student, and I think as homeschoolers it's much easier to know whether or not our kids need more or less practice.
  13. TIGI S Factor smoothing lusterizer shampoo and conditioner. Tames my frizzy hair and it feels so soft. Le Couvent des Minimes face cream for sensitive skin - doesn't have a strong fragrance and gentle on my skin Stila color balm lipstick--I love the hint of peppermint because I usually don't like the 'taste' of lipstick
  14. I want to add that just because he seemed to be there to visit a neighbor, doesn't mean he wasn't also looking for an opportunity to break in a car/house.
  15. Thanks! I'll have them choose one of the fall dates then.
  16. If my kids want to take a Math SAT (1 or 2-probably 2?) when is the best point in time, considering this math sequence: already taken- geometry Algebra2 Precalc this year- AP Stats and IB Math SL next year-AP Calc ? My kids are at ps and so far the school hasn't been very helpful w/my question. I probably need to ask a few more people there.
  17. Uniqlo. We have some from a few years (mens) age and they are very soft. http://www.uniqlo.com/us/product/women-fleece-lined-full-zip-hoodie-172278.html#31~/women/sweatshirts-and-sweatpants/hoodies/pile-lined/~
  18. I have washed nylon handbags in my washing machine with some success.
  19. I think it will just make them less cake-like
  20. Agree about Thermos. We have a shorter, wide mouth one that is fine. We also have some Zojirushi bento lunch jars that are nice for bringing more than one dish in one container.
  21. I would call and try to get it changed. If this is older kids, the bus probably picks them up very early and in the dark. No sidewalks seems too dangerous. What about in the winter if there is snow?
  22. If you regularly find nicer clothing items at your thrift stores I would try reselling on eBay or similar websites. I follow fashion blogs and usually I stop following them because they becomes more like advertisements as the blogger gets more free merchandise for review. Or there are endless outfits with links to stores.
  23. I agree...liars will never tell you more than what they think you already know.
  24. So you would think the husband would pass on that info to his wife, so she could keep an eye on the house too?
  25. There's always the possibility that the man will leave work to go to the hotel (during normal work hours), and the wife wouldn't know.
