  1. @4kidlets4meRe: Capote's In Cold Blood--have you read any biographies of Harper Lee? She and Capote were good friends (frenemies?) and there's a lot of interesting backstory about her involvement in In Cold Blood.
  2. In my world, maybe never (ha ha), but I usually only say things like this to myself about things I want or need to do, like chores I dread. But I said by a normal adult's bedtime because that's what I think it actually means. 🤣
  3. @Faith-manorthanks for sharing your insight. This is awful. I'm sorry anyone has to live through this.
  4. I'm watching. I'm up through episode 3. I am smack dab in the middle Bible Belt and I can see the influences of IBLP-like teaching, even if I had never even heard of it before the Duggars. did anybody else think the part of Josie quoting the obedience saying in the bathroom was REALLY weird?
  5. I was in a school for 4th and part of 5th. I remember nothing about what I learned--I just remember the structure of the school and how our over all day went. It wasn't a bad experience for me. I had come from public school in my home state, attended the private school while my dad was on a temporary transfer to the other state, and returned to my original public school system mid-year. I was none the worse for wear.
  6. What? I had no idea! I attended a tiny private school for a few years in elementary school that used Paces. Mind blown.
  7. During my first pregnancy, I made my husband move a console table from our living room into the garage because the smell of the finish on it made me so nauseous.
  8. @Eos on the sand thing--I have crunched ice so much at various stages of pregnancy and life in general that my husband researched it and discovered---a sign of anemia! I wonder if your craving means the same thing since grape nuts--very crunchy--sated it. (This May be common knowledge, but I was amazed to learn my extreme craving was driven by a deficit!) I don't remember tons of cravings besides the above, just things I could tolerate. With my first I ate Cheezits and drank apple juice or Dr Pepper because it was what I could hold down. I was a school librarian at the time, and my principal would say that he could tell if it was going to be a good or bad day based on what I was carrying in my hand (a drink or nothing) when I walked through the door. My library aide said my baby was going to be born "starched stiff" because I ate so many carbs in the form of Cheezits. 🤣 It was the aversions for me. 🤢
  9. I do have cute headbands. I was hoping to actually cover up my hair (as needed), though.
  10. I'm considering a hat as a viable option for hiding second day hair on vacation. (This is mostly due to the amount of time it takes for me to cajole my hair into passable shape these days.) I am a regular sun hat wearer at the beach or pool, but I'd like something that's a little less large/sun hat-ish. I've never in my life worn a baseball cap, though I do think it's a cute look on some women (not sure I'm one of those women, though.). My hair is a short angled bob that tends to be wavy, so no ponytail to contend with, though I think short hair poses its own hat problem. I'm also on the plump side and not as young as I used to be, though I still have young-ish kids (and I'm actually old enough to be my baby's grandma). Ideas? Bonus point for links.
  11. Lately the thing that is filling the hole for me (not completely but sort of) is Storytime at the library. I'm the children's librarian so I do 2-3 storytimes a week and I started a weekly baby time shortly after I took the job. It's not the the same as my own kids, of course, but it does give me a little, regular dose of all things baby/toddler/preschooler. I love them so much, and it's nice to be a minor celebrity to my own little crowd. 🤣
  12. I remember feeling exactly this way when my youngest was a baby. There are almost 3 years between youngest and the next oldest sibling and almost 9 years from oldest to youngest. The feeling of gratitude for *getting* to do it one more time would bring me to tears.
  13. I'm so glad to know I'm not alone. (((HUGS)))
  14. Dh was working on deleting files off an old computer tonight and found a treasure trove of videos from when my college kids were littles. Oh my heart. Can that sort of longing be physical? I think mine is. I miss them at that age SO much. 😭
  15. Thank you! If you haven't read her other novels (The Blue Castle and A Tangled Web are my favorites), you have much to look forward to!
  16. Ha! Yes, auto-correct, though I've had a number of non-pediatrician friendly FRIENDS over the years! 😉😉
  17. Anne/ LM Montgomery is my favorite of all time. Fun fact: dh and I went to PEI on our honeymoon 24 years ago this summer!
  18. I listened to this one and enjoyed it. I believe there is a sequel, correct?
  19. You all are inspiring me. I definitely don't live in a pediatrician-friendly area, and I would also say there's some stigma attached to walking when one has a car. All of ky walking has to be intentional.
  20. Well, only some of this MIGHT be what you're after (or could be modified to be), but it's one of my favorite recipe sources. I picked these partially for myself and partially because I THINK my picky boys will eat some of them. 21. Of the Brooklyns, which is your favorite style?
  22. I don't know the right answer for you, but this thread is making me CONSIDER walking to work myself as it's only blocks away. However, I'm not sure that Alabama summertime is the best time to experiment. 😅
