  1. We are thinking of getting a camper, a bumper pull. There are 6 of us. Kids ages are 3, 7, 11, 14. Plus 2 small dogs. We've never owned a travel trailer, so hit me with all your collective hive knowledge, LOL! We can pull up to 9400 lbs. One question we are musing, a bunk or not? There is so much more space if we use the couch/dinette as sleeping spaces, but then kids definitely have to share, and those have to be put away every morning. If we get a camper it may do double duty as a temporary office for dh, and cramped quarters would make that unpleasant. But tweens/teens appreciate their own space too.
  2. I love most of it. Cleaning products give me a headache, so it's wonderful to be able to clean with only water. I have a bit of everything. Their laundry detergent is amazing. I use that diluted in a spray bottle to clean up pet accidents. Our elderly cat peed directly on our mattress (mad because I was washing her bed I guess) and the laundry detergent took out the stain and the smell. We use almost all of the different cloths. I have one of the doormats at our doggie door and it does a fantastic job of soaking up wet and mud. The cleaning paste is amazing at getting out glass top stove clean. The mop is easy to use and my kids love it - the floors are squeaky clean when they are done. One day I may own everything!
  3. OP here. Thanks for all the concerns. We still don’t know if we will try to drive. But my sister will stay home and keep kids home for 10 days before we see them, so that is a relief! (If we go) Part of our motivation is mental health for our household, as well as a holiday. But there is a very long list against travel, we know that. One factor in all this is my parents insistence on coming to us if we cannot come to them, unless we forbid it.
  4. We haven't decided if the risk is worth it. A few years ago, a random chest cold in their kid caused ours to be hospitalized for a week. It would be heartbreaking to not travel. It would be heartbreaking to ask them not to see us (in fact, it isn't our house, so I can't really do that anyway). SO, I am hoping I won't have to make that decision and they will be understanding. Thanks for the wording! We will not be there for TG, only Christmas. TG was just an illustration of their outlook, activities, etc.
  5. If it is safe and we are able to, we are planning to drive from the midwest to FL for Christmas. We have risk factors in the family and have been very cautious throughout this whole thing. My sister and dh are NOT; they had covid in the summer, but their kids didn't (as far as we know). They are having a large gathering for Thanksgiving, like 20-30 people with no masks or distancing. This effectively leaves my parents excluded because they are also cautious. My dh and I want to ask my sister and her dh to be cautious for our sakes before Christmas. I have little hope they will - they are very involved at church and are there twice a week, and in small groups too. Our family Christmas is usually everyone together for a week or more at my parents' place. All of us is 7 adults and 7 kids and 5 dogs, so pretty crazy busy. I thought if I find the right words maybe that will help, so I'd like your opinions. I'm hoping they can agree to keeping the kids out of activities and limit their interactions for a week to 10 days before we see them. It's impossible to expect our kids to stay distanced if we see them.
  6. What kind of pee pad do you use? We bought washable ones for our bunnies from Amazon. They are cloth on the top side and plastic on the bottom with a filler in between. I wonder if she would pee on that instead of a disposable pad?
  7. Our cat started peeing on things, and what worked for her was re-training. She was about 10. We had to limit her to one room for a week or two and then to one floor of the house for another few weeks. She is 16 now and we’ve moved several times since then but she has been good. I don’t know if that’s possible in your situation, obviously. I’m so sorry she’s being a snot.
  8. This is the new set-up. They seem to be happy, and there are no tufts of fur floating around.
  9. Thank you!! Keep giving me tips and information! We will try to adjust the living space so they each have half. Right now we are watching whether they will continue to pull fur off while separate. My hope is eventually they will be able to live together again.
  10. Well, dd found them fighting this morning. Said they were “attacking” each other and the bunnies were on their sides at times. Neither have sores that she could see, just tufts of hair all over. I’m using quotes because I didn’t see it, and this child sometimes overreacts. We separated them, so it’s okay now, but we don’t have two pens, so I don’t know what to do for the long run. Would bunnies turn on each other? We’ve had both since 8/9 weeks old, and they’ve always been best buds. 😔
  11. I don’t think she has seen them do it, but I’ll ask her tomorrow. We are in the Midwest, the temps last week were 70s, but a cold front came in yesterday and now temps are in the 40s with a chance of snow.
  12. So our adorable baby boy bunnies were neutered 10 days ago. They are about 6 months old. They are dd11’s pets and she is freaked out because they’ve been pulling fur out for the last couple of days. She has found lots of tufts. So what is causing them to do this? They are housed in our garage for the winter, in a fairly large enclosure with a heater. (They cannot be inside because of my allergies.) Photo is just part of the pen; they have a cage they hop in and out of for food/water, more toys, hay, etc.
  13. Sorry about the lousy symptoms. I’m praying they lighten up soon and start to go away!
  14. Our county ended last week at 30.9%, oh joy. Our church is still meeting, and only requires people to wear mask when walking around the building, not while sitting or singing. Governor is silent, even though the hospitals/doctors are begging for help in the form of mandates, etc. My family has been sheltering the whole time, but we are so tired of it! And my youngest needs an outpatient dental procedure in 2 weeks - she is 3, and needs three crowns and two fillings. I’m really worried about being in the hospital at that point.
  15. Sounds like Sounds like us! Our county positivity rate was 26.8% last Friday. The governor’s briefing today did not include any directed health measures, no mandates. Just urged people to follow the rules if you can. It’s very scary.
  16. Right. Our cat was the kitten that climbed all over us, friendly and happy to meet new creatures. We didn’t choose the kitten that cowered under the bench and ran away when we tried to say hi.
  17. 16 years ago we got a very confident, very small, kitten. She has ruled the house and all other furry creatures since. At the time we had a black mouth cur, a high energy, high chase dog. But he knew to leave her alone (he was teachable). She kept him in line. She is old and much weaker now, but she still doesn’t let the 5 month puppy push her around. Maybe animal confidence helps?
  18. Walk me through the process? We need to add 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Start with an architect? Designer? Contractor? What pitfalls to avoid? Thanks!
  19. Our little 4.5 month furball barks. He barks at everything, and it’s a little cute bark right now, but I’d like to discourage it. How would I do that? He’s a bit scared of things, people, etc. He barks at people walking past. He barks at neighbors wanting to say hi. He barked at DH after he crossed the street to the mailbox (we guessed he couldn’t see that far?) He barks at our neighbors’ dogs that are big enough to jump the fence and come “play” with him. He barks out the window. He doesn’t bark at any of the family, excepting the time Dh went across the street.
  20. Our first high school year, and the big glitch is Biology! DD’s online class did not work out, and now I have to take over the Biology credit. I enjoyed The subject in high school and college, but I need some help! We have Apologia’s Biology 2nd Ed, with the textbook, notebook and teaching videos they produced. Do I need a $200 microscope? How do we do the labs? What if neither of us understand a chapter? I’ll find all the biology threads on here that I can, but thanks in advance for any help!
  21. We have a sunroom. The original blinds have broken and cannot be repaired. We had a “blinds guy” come out and the estimate for new ones was $3000. We can’t spend that much, but we want good quality blinds that will last another 15 years. There are four big blinds. In the photo, you can see our current blinds and where we pulled one off the doorway (it wouldn’t go back up). Any tips, advice, etc??
  22. Shoot, @Not_a_number, I really enjoyed your posts. This teaches me that I should copy and save more!
  23. Someone PM me, too. I don’t create or contribute a whole lot, but this board is my sanity, and I hate to find out people have left the group. So sorry for whatever happened to you, OP!
