  1. Each lesson/week has four parts - A B C and D. It could all be done independently but we usually do section A together. That section can take a long time, especially if he is looking up all of the references by himself. More importantly, studying it together allows for discussion. He usually completes the other sections on his own.
  2. We used R&S Bible 1-5, then tried CLE for 6 and returned to R&S for 7 and just started 8 this week. We love the series. We study R&S Bible together using the NIV rather than the suggested King James version.
  3. These peapod mats are wonderful! Wish I had found them sooner. The 3x5 size is more than enough coverage for a single bed. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01695MH14/ref=oh_aui_i_sh_in_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  4. My ds plays clarinet in our public middle school band. We live in Minnesota. I called the school the last week of the summer, they enrolled him over the phone, and I dropped him off the following week for rehearsal. Everything has gone smoothly and his teacher and the administration have been helpful. I wasn't fully prepared for the chunk of time taken out of our school day but with some minor adjustments we are back on track.
  5. We have been using this Electro Fan for awhile. I have given it as a gift 3 times since purchasing it for our bedroom. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s//ref=mw_dp_a_s?ie=UTF8&k=LectroSound
  6. Family Thanksgiving is held at our house every year. Our tradition is tempura shrimp fondue, shrimp fried rice, and a ginger salad. I have 3 electric fondue pots and we all enjoy a slow meal together. That night we sit down with left over dessert and watch Polar Express.
  7. Send them updates and pictures. Have the kids write them notes. If you moved to get away from them, why do you want them to be part of your lives? Just wondering . . . . .
  8. We spent a month last summer (2016) in Switzerland and included a small side trip to Chamonix as well. We too spend our time walking rather than hiking and found it to be a nice region to explore. On a past trip we home based in Annecy and day tripped to Lyon and Chamonix. This year we stayed right in in the town of Chamonix and enjoyed it. The town was packed with tourists during the day when we were out on the alps and it emptied out in the evenings making it easy to dine and enjoy the street entertainment. We took in Mont Blanc-Aiguille du Midi, Mer de Glace (the glacier) in Montenvers, the Arve riverbank stroll and the Chamonix Amusement Park with it's luge ride, tree courses, and trampolines. We slept in town 2 nights and used trains and buses the entire month. The Jungfrau region of Switzerland is our favorite alp destination. We stay in Murren while we are there. The area near Zermatt and the Matterhorn is enjoyable but has cold and unpredictable weather. The Dolomites in upper Italy is less of an alp experience and more of a cultural experience (Italian Germans). The lifts in the Dolomites bring you up to meadows rather than the towering beauty of the mountains. The Appenzell area was new to us this year and a lovely area to explore.
  9. Study who the character is. If there aren't a lot of details given for this character then have her create some depth on her own. What kind of family does she (the character) come from? Does she have brothers or sisters? What does she like to do in her free time? Does she like the person she is speaking to? Etc. Memorize the lines. Prompt her and have her respond with her memorized lines in front of a full length mirror, watching herself. Questions to ask her- Do you look like what you thought you did? Is the message or emotion you want to come through visible? What could you add or take away that might make your character more real or present? Are your eyes communicating or just your words? Is your body helping to communicate or getting in the way? . . . .
  10. I couldn't vote. I would never eat a hot dog - the color, the smell of the water my mom boiled them in, the mystery of their ingredients.
  11. 1. We give dozens away 2. Egg salad sandwiches 3. Shrimp egg foo young served with fried rice (10 eggs) 4. Swedish egg pancakes 5. I also scramble them and give them to the chickens as a treat when they start to stock pile 6. Angel pie (8 eggs) 7. Poached eggs on toast for breakfast (my favorite)
  12. We tack Murren Switzerland on to every trip we take abroad.
  13. GERD. I have the same feeling with reflux.
  14. We have one. He is home schooled and extremely social. When he was younger he enjoyed Sunday school, Awana, piano lessons, VBS, art classes, theater classes, summer corner ball club, playing and talking with children and adults at parks and McDonald's playland, a variety of sports and swimming lessons . He's 11 now and he sings with a boys choir that rehearses over 4 hours a week, studies piano, attends horse camp, Awana, Sunday school and just started band at our public school. When he gets bored at home he asks if he can visit our few neighbors to chat and catch up on the latest. All of them are over 75 and welcome his company and enthusiasm.
  15. We are finishing up the ninth and final season of The Waltons. It has been a big hit with all of us and available at our library.
  16. I am 57 with an eleven year old. Tired? Oh yes. But we would do it again in a minute.
  17. We recently chose a homeschool name to use on his diploma and to use when he just wants a quick response to the "where do you go to school" question. Atworth Academy - meaning: Farmstead Academy. Needless to say, we live and school in an 1890 farmstead.
  18. Average school day here is also about 5 hours - that doesn't include piano.
  19. I usually buy ones that slightly give when squeezed. I have also had great success with placing hard ones in a brown paper bag with a banana or apple. This would create even more ethylene gas in the bag and speed up the process. It will ripen even faster if the bag is in the sun.
  20. My 5th grade son uses R&S gr.5 english daily and daily paragraph editing gr. 7 about twice a week all year long. He zips through the paragraph editing in about 5 minutes. I do think it has helped him see basic errors in his own writing.
  21. I would call and ask if you want to bring food. When I am the hostess preparing the entire meal I usually have a well planned out menu with each item complimenting each other. If someone calls and asks what they can bring I will usually tell them something already on the menu, making one less dish for me to make. Flowers are a great idea. I have also attended holidays toting a basket filled with dried pasta, a gourmet marinara sauce, crusty bread, bottle of olive oil . . . . . a complete meal for another day.
