  1. for 2 weeks what are the "must sees". We are leaving from Grand Rapids and going through IL. and then up and West. We plan on going to Mt. Rushmoore, Badlands National park, Yellowstone and Teton National Park..... What else should we do and see? Thanks for your help!! Lorraine:)
  2. 6/5 since the begiining part of the book is a review. I do agree that towards the end of 5/4 there are concepts that I shouldn't miss...... He is sooo behind, I just feel as though I need to catch him up!!!! Do you think then I should continue moving along 5/4 (using the tests as a guide as which concepts to teach) but also start in with 6/5? Also thank you ALL for your heartfelt condolences, she sure was a cutie!! Lorraine:001_smile:
  3. We are in the middle of the book and yes saxon is set-up for five lessons but we also do a lesson on saturday as well. Yes, he knows how to do all the above mentioned and quite well, he is very smart in math. My baby girl passed away in my arms after being in the hospital for over 100 days. She fought hard....... Thanks !!! Lorraine
  4. 11 year old son is ONLY in Saxon 4/5. We fell behind when my darling daughter was born with a severe heart defect; she needed extreme care and had many heart surgeries, we spent a ton of time in the hospital. We did school as much as we could( I also have two younger ones) but fall behind. So where should a bright 11 year old be in saxon math? Do I jump ahead or do I keep plugging away, we have been doing 5-6 math lessons a week to catch-up! Thanks for your help, Lorraine:001_smile:
  5. alll of you who responded to my questions. All the suggestions were great and I added them to my travel journal. We are very excited and the kids keep asking when are we leaving.... :auto: Also Dawn and Staci, thanks for your offer to answer questions while we are in Virginia. THat was so kind and thoughtful of you both. I may have to take you up on it :) Once again, thank you so much!! Lorraine :D
  6. incorporate both a relaxing beach vaca. and throw in some of the historical aspects. Do you think that is doable? THanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions!
  7. THanks for the responses!! Good suggestions! Also, would you recommend we stay somewhere else or are we fine on Virginia Beach???? Lorraine
  8. Boy, I sure would like some suggestions/feedback on the plans that I have in place for our vacation to Virginia in September. We are a family of six, ages of the sweeties are 11, 9, 6, and a 3. I've reservations for us to stay at the Ocean Beach Resort Club on Virginia Beach. We plan to drive to Williamsburg, check-out Jamestown colony, and the Air and space museum (?-my husband mentioned something about this). I would love any suggestions...places that are a MUST to visit, is the Ocean Beach Resort a nice place to stay (my research tells me it's a 4 star-it sounds nice), and should we stop off and do a short excursion in D.C. ....... any suggestions would be much appreciated!!!! By the way, the two older boys are studying the American Revolution. Also, please let me know about the weather, what we can expect for mid-September. My husband and oldest son have a VERY hard time in hot/humid weather. :tongue_smilie: THanks in advanced for any helpful tips. From Michigan... :auto: Lorraine :)
  9. We really like "ALL ABOUT SPELLING", as well. Two of my three boys use it, 7 and 9. It is a nice program, it also reviews phonics rules. We have tried a lot of different programs, Spelling Workout, Spelling Power, Sequential Spelling....... This is the Favorite, they enjoy it and it is working. HTH Lorraine:D
  10. across any pronunciation guide. Do you suggest any other books/programs that could help me.... Lorraine:o
  11. So we started Minimus today, fun but a bit confussing. I don't have any Latin background. And for the life of me, I couldn't understand why some vowels had the line on top. I thought it perhaps meant to pronounce the vowel long, like we do, but it wasn't matching the sound when I listened to the CD (about ten times). And in the teacher's manual, there is not an explanation (from what I could see) as to why that line is above some vowels but not others. Can anyone explain this to me. Also, should I buy perhaps another Latin program, that would help me along with Minimus? Is there another program, maybe Latin For Children, that I should buy, does LFC explain things better for the teacher. I am doing it with 2 of my 3 boys, ages 9 and 7. Thanks for you help!! Lorraine:confused:
