  1. My family has been very happy with Native brand. Years ago I made our own (and it was very effective- even for my husband) following this recipe: https://old.passionatehomemaking.com/2013/01/homemade-all-natural-deodorant.html#:~:text=Combine equal portions of baking, able to be applied easily. Also, sometimes we’ve noticed that a deodorant stops to work after a while and rotating between brands can help.
  2. I found someone asking a similar question online, and noticed that you can “chat” with the USDA…maybe they’d have insight for you since it was only 5 hours at most. https://ask.usda.gov/s/article/Our-refrigerator-door-was-left-open-overnight-Is-the-food-safe
  3. I’m so sorry that happened. What terrible timing too with having an injury. We’ve had the fridge left open before, and I followed this chart: https://www.foodsafety.gov/food-safety-charts/food-safety-during-power-outage I know it’s awful to throw food away, but I didn’t want to risk food sickness. I’d be especially careful about food that was in the door, as I imagine that would have been the warmest.
  4. Maybe she could ask her bf what type of sweets his parents like?
  5. Stores like Home Goods often have little food items in gift type packaging at a good price. Like tea samplers, fancy hot cocoa mix, specialty candies.
  6. Sharing to offer encouragement: My child and I once ate soup from a bloated container from the grocery store. Someone served it to us not knowing it was bad- my daughter ate quite a bit of it before I tasted mine- it tasted terrible. I was so scared of food poisoning as I know it is very unsafe to eat from bloated packaging. I called poison control for advice. (They didn’t really have any, said we’d have to wait and see. But maybe you’d get different info if you call). We both ended up being completely fine. Praying your daughter has no issues either.
  7. We have run into this type of thing too. We switched to assigning chores that are completely separate from siblings’ chores. So one kid might have chores in the living room, and another in the kitchen. Then we rotate each month (the kids prefer this to a weekly rotation).
  8. Thank you for all the replies! We did have a consult with the oral surgeon, who recommended they be removed…but that if we wanted to wait awhile we could, as they aren’t causing problems now. He did say it might be more involved if we waited till later when the roots are better formed. This teen has some other health problems- so we don’t want to do anything extra right now that we don’t need to…but also don’t want to have it be a more difficult situation later. I suppose there is no real way to know which way is best.
  9. Thanks for sharing…this is what I was concerned might be the case.
  10. In the US it seems pretty standard to remove wisdom teeth before they cause any problems- just incase. I’m curious if this is how it’s done in other countries also? Anyone have experience getting their wisdom teeth removed as an adult after they started causing problems? Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated!
  11. I’m not sure about this particular issue, but I’ve found Fels-Naptha (laundry soap bar) gets just about every stain out of clothes.
  12. Be aware that most will need live insects (some can manage freeze dried, but many won't eat them).
  13. So, I think he’d be totally fine not to offer snacks because of the timing of the event. However, I always feel better if I have snacks on hand incase it seems like they should be offered (like, if the visiting kid mentions being hungry). I’d offer the adult something to drink (water/coffee/tea). I try to keep juice boxes on hand to offer little kids. And maybe have some fruit or pretzels ready. Disclaimer- I no longer have little kids- so my thoughts may be dated.
  14. The National Parks band Enjoy your trip!
  15. When my kids were little co-ops were great socially, but once they become tweens/teens I find that social dynamics can change. Most of my kids’ friends are not from co-op, but rather they connect with kids involved in the same extracurricular activities. Are there any local clubs/sports/volunteer groups that your dd would want to join? Time with other kids is important. I like your idea of planning outings with friends. I have found the work of being in a co-op typically isn’t worth what we get out of it. It’s much easier for me to host events or plan a meet up. Also, the academics don’t typically align with what we are doing at home. One thing I really did appreciate about the co-ops I’ve been in is the friendships that I’ve made with other moms. It’s hard to find time as a mom to socialize- so now that we don’t do co-ops anymore I do feel like my friendships aren’t as close from lack of time together. You listed a lot more cons than pros…if you and your dd can find a local alternative to meet more people, it seems like that might be ideal. Also, the 1 hour drive would make it hard for your dd to see any friends she makes outside of co-op hours.
  16. Would it make a difference if you had someone else speak to the staff to request another covid test? I’m not sure how things work there, but where I live it sometimes helps to have a family member act as an advocate for the patient. Maybe your husband could call in and ask for a covid test since you don’t have symptoms. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with all this. Praying for you.
  17. Praying for you, for healing and peace while you wait for more answers.
  18. Linen sheets. A few years ago I came across a similar thread on here, and a lot of people recommended linen sheets. I switched then and love them.
  19. @Farrar , @Malam, @Roadrunner Conceptual Physics looks like it just might be the perfect fit. Thanks for the recommendation!
  20. Thanks for the replies! Sounds like we should do science next year. Anyone have a recommendation for a less mathy physics curriculum, if we go that route? I was thinking physics was expected by most schools, so I’m encouraged to hear a different science would be an option. This student gets good grades and truly enjoys school (other than math) so I just want to make sure the transcript looks strong so future opportunities aren’t limited.
