  1. Realidades We thought about just having him start over at the local U which happens to be our state flagship, but at $3000+ per semester that's not happening. Also, no guarantee he'd even get in since he can't register till the first day of classes.
  2. Hoping someone might have some ideas for us. Here's the situation: DS had Spanish 1 and 2 and then due to a scheduling issue and some other personal things didn't have Spanish last year. So on paper he needs Spanish 3 but with a year off isn't really ready for it. We thought Homeschool Spanish Academy was going to be the answer, but he hated it when he did the trial -- way too much background noise and the connection dropped multiple times. So, looking for ideas -- would like to have a live component if at all possible. Anyone have any experience with Aim Academy's multi-level Spanish? He needs a third year because our state flagship has a 3 year requirement for admissions. Thanks!
  3. The counselor letter will be personal -- that's the joy of homeschooling -- but if you want some examples, note, they aren't homeschool specific, MIT admissions has a helpful page -- http://mitadmissions.org/apply/prepare/writingrecs Also, the hs2coll yahoo group has an example in the files with a caveat that it was a service academy nomination, but still may give you ideas.
  4. Note the following from Brown: "Powell said that undergraduate applicants can still submit their SAT essay or ACT writing scores should they choose. And the University also recommends that applicants submit a graded paper from a humanities or social sciences course as part of their application." (Bold is mine.) Found here: https://news.brown.edu/articles/2018/07/essay
  5. PSA -- check the school's regulations before buying a foam topper. DS's school doesn't allow them -- considered a fire risk/hazard. Kids get busted for them every year at the first fire drill.
  6. Maybe this: Coasters 101: An Engineer’s Guide to Roller Coaster Design. By Nick Weisenberger. Don't know a thing about it, though.
  7. Also, through my digging around I found that Funda Funda has a teen Python programming class. One semester. $139. I know nothing about it, but thought I would share just in case.
  8. Julie, Thanks for the update. Glad you have that quote. You, too Skimomma. Nothing here, so I think we will look elsewhere. Suggestions? Thanks.
  9. Hi. New posting, but have lurked for a while Anyway, my DS had been planning to do AP CS-A thru Edhesive this fall after reading about it here. I was especially interested due to the $150 price. However, when I went to the website this morning, it is showing a price of $550 for a student license for the 2018-19 year. Anyone else seeing this, or am I looking at the wrong thing? Thanks.
