  1. My mom is one of my best friends. Thankfully, she only lives a mile away and she is part of the family. My dad pasted away 13 years ago and neither of my in laws are alive, so she is my son's only living grandparent.
  2. Yes, Mormons believe it is true. There is a chapter in the Book of Mormon (Ether) that explains what happens to a group of people from this time period.
  3. I just have to say thank you for doing this. Having a list has helped me to get things done. I have also shared with a friend.
  4. It depends As a young student I would in a heartbeat. Middle school also. As a High schooler it depends. My son is going to 10th grade ps this fall. I need to see how he does before we schedule anything. Grandma is taking him and his cousins to NYC during Spring Break, but that may necessitate a day or two either way.
  5. This is my go to place for information!
  6. I will try just to tell them, but he is planning on taking the ACT next fall, which will be done before he turns 16 and we need to insure him. Marian
  7. We have USAA and I have called about how to get the good student discount and they said you need to be: "Scholastically rank in the upper 20% range on a national exam which specifies grade level and curriculum tested. This exam must be administered in a controlled setting by state or national education authorities. " Is anyone here on USAA with a student driver? What test did you use? Marian
  8. Thanks for the reminder. We did this last year and had a great time. We are the Baseball Boys.
  9. For me, this was as simple as calling his free time "recess". And he got a lot of "recess" compared to the public school children.:001_smile:
  10. We have Asia and Africa. We have learned a lot and really enjoyed them. They are similar and I do think you can get tired of them. Even though they are different continents, the game is the same. We also really enjoy the geography game "Take Off".
  11. I had never heard of them until yesterday when my sister emailed me that she was ordering a box of chicken. She said that she has never used them, but felt comfortable because of the person recommending it to her. She will let me know what she thinks.
  12. We have gone through the 4 year cycle twice. Next year for 9th grade we will be doing in depth American History, 10th grade I don't know and then he will do Running Start for 11 & 12.
  13. My brother, who turns 50 this year, just got his off last year. He did the full headgear as a child. This was his dentist's recommendation due to gum disease.
  14. but they don't fly to Hawaii right now. We are going to Hawaii in June on Alaska. They are rated high, but I have no personal experience. Delta is so, so.
  15. For years I let my son watch a morning show (PBS) if he got up and got his piano practiced and scriptures read by 7:00 am. Now that has moved to a tv show or 30 minutes of Wii if he gets all his lessons done by 3:00 pm without attitude. This has worked well for our family.
  16. Even though I have used Sonlight (or parts) from the beginning, I have never purchased it new. I have bought used and resold (Core 7 will be coming ;)) or I have pieced it together with purchases and the library.
  17. I have an only and we have used Sonlight in varying degrees from the beginning. I don't think of it as "boxed" curriculum though. I use only the history/lit part and add in my "own" math, science, scriptures, etc. Sometimes I used the recommendations of Sonlight and sometimes I don't. The last two years we have used Sonlight 7 (I divided it in two). It was too hard for my barely average reader. Next year we will do Sonlight 100, but I will still do some of it as read alouds although that is not the way it is written.
  18. Thank you, that was the one of which I was thinking.
  19. and I have read on these forums a good next "step", but I can't remember. What do you suggest after Fallacy Detective?
  20. I have canned several things, meat, vegetables, fruit, etc. As long as they seal and smell good when I open them, I have used them even 3-4 years after they have been canned. No problems.
  21. I honestly can't tell you, I just know that I get it in the bulk section of the store. Eventually I want to try the bread without using it.
