  1. Honestly, this is me too. I could really use a break from the pressure right now of having to have things a certain way for dh. I like my alone time and need more of it. I do 99% of everything around here anyway, it wouldn't impact me energy wise. I'm a little shy about making cold calls to necessary businesses (i.e. plumber, etc) but hey, he could do that from where ever he was. :tongue_smilie:
  2. My 12yo dd is similar. I used to blame the hearing loss she has (she can hear fine in one ear, hardly at all in the other - but hates her aid and doesn't wear it much)... I've tried talking to her about it, I've tried role playing, it hasn't really helped. What would a therapist DO that is so successful? ETA: thanks for the selective mutism link above.
  3. "Sit down and buckle up." "Would you two stop arguing?!?" "You don't have to say every little thought that comes into your head." (x5) "You don't have to say hi every time we pass in the fishbowl." (This is from a comic strip ... said to my oldest who likes to say hi every time we pass in our small open house) "I can't read your mind, you have to let me in on the conversation you were having with me in your head from the beginning, not the middle." "Be nice!" and its cousin "Leave him alone!"
  4. I've been meaning to do this for a long time. Tend toward hypo here too (at least it feels like it) but lately it feels like it's happening much more often, despite me trying to reduce carbs somewhat and up the protein. :glare:
  5. Love Fernando Ortega! :001_wub: Hope you have a great time. I was 37 weeks pregnant at our last concert and having contractions -- we joked about naming the baby Fernando.
  6. Oh my goodness, are you an angel sent to me to tell me *exactly* what I needed to hear today? :001_wub: Thank you. I need to show this to my dh. There is a lot of pressure on me, some necessary, some not, and your post is helping me see I'm imposing more than needs to be there. Not really related to the topic at hand (writing curriculum), but in all *other* areas of my life!
  7. These are wise words. I'll probably figure out my favorite "pet" curricula right about the time my youngest is in high school. :001_huh: It's an expensive hobby to try them all to find my favorites! :001_smile:
  8. OK it's morning and I'm no more coherent. I think I chose the wrong lifetime to not like coffee. Thanks again for all your suggestions. It's good to hear that reluctant and non-reluctant alike are (or can be) benefited by the same good program. I was hoping it would be easier :tongue_smilie: but I can see how one curriculum can be used for several levels and abilities if I take the reins more.
  9. Thank you all, there are a few here that I hadn't heard of -- they are now bookmarked for a longer look later. :) The One Year Adventure Novel was one that I had on tap for a year or so from now for the 7th grader. I'll be back with some more coherent thoughts -- right now everyone is trying to get a piece of me. :glare:
  10. I've seen numerous threads on the best curricula for reluctant writers, what about the kids who love to write but need polish (in some cases a lot of polish? :tongue_smilie:) My 9th grader is dyslexic and lacks organization of thought (among other mechanics problems). My 7th grader is a pretty good writer for her age -- at least when it comes to creative writing -- but wants to BE a writer so I'm looking for a curriculum for her that would take her over that edge from OK to *great*. The other two students (4th and 2nd) enjoy creative writing but haven't done much academically. Right now I'm drawn, like many of you, to WWS and IEW. Moreso WWS, although I would looooove a DVD to have someone *else* teach them for awhile. I'm open to anything though! I have read Bravewriter but it's a little too open ended for us right now. The last thing I want to do is extinguish that spark that they already have. Any thoughts?
  11. I voted INFP, since that's what I've always been in the multiple times and many years I've taken the test ... even when I'd vote the "other" way in questions I was iffy on. But I took it again today and was an INFJ! Rocked my world, lol. I wonder what that means...
  12. Ooo, so close! Exciting! Congratulations and best wishes. :001_smile:
  13. :grouphug::grouphug: I'm so sorry. Sending more prayers and love your way.
  14. None. We truly seemed no different on than off, digestively, immune system wise, weight wise, everything -- even at the beginning of each transition (going off and then back on to gluten).
  15. I haven't read Wheat Belly, but I've read a few other anti-gluten/anti-grain books and websites. We decided at the beginning of the year to give up gluten to see if it helped with the myriad health issues my family has. We gave up wheat for 6-7 weeks. I saw no difference in anyone, and I was really looking! I'm glad I can eat wheat, but I was really hoping that I had found *something* that would help my kids. I didn't even lose weight. :glare: Wait, I thought of one thing that probably was a coincidence looking at my perimenopausal history: shortly after going GF I had a 5 week long period from h#ll that I'm still anemic from. :glare:
  16. :banghead:I've had a few that were a bad fit for me but may have been good for someone else -- my least favorite was the summer in college I worked as a receptionist for a court reporting equipment company. I was only hired to file and do general office work, but then their receptionist quit (now I know why!) and they asked me to take her job too for more pay. First of all, I *hate* phones, so that plays into this, but the day consisted mostly of clients calling to ream *me* out because the techs weren't going on their assignments to fix the machines in a timely manner, and the techs telling me to make up excuses for them that the clients never ever believed. The people there were great (other than not wanting to do their work, lol), it was getting yelled at on the phone constantly that did me in. Yes, I'm just a special snowflake in that department. A close second was working in Barnes and Noble during the Christmas season. I was going through some strange medical stuff at the time which didn't help, but basically I worked the cafe most of the time during the busy times where people were really, really rude. Not being able to hear because the band was playing loudly on weekend nights didn't help. So I guess I just don't do well in general with being yelled at when I'm not really doing anything wrong. :glare:
  17. I'm so sorry. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Praying for peace for all of you. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  18. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: Many prayers coming your way! Hope it turns out to be nothing. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  19. Sounds good! Praying for a quick and complete recovery for him! And :grouphug: to you from another wife of a dh with back issues.
  20. Continuing to pray for you! Something very similar happened to me, numbers slowing down, low progesterone, U/S saying the development is far behind where I *knew* it should be due to date of conception ... she's now about to turn 13. :)
