  1. Phonics-Alphaphonics for review...Wise Old Owl Guide to Polysyllables. Reading-Christian Light Reader 3 and lots of chapter books...I will print off various comprehension worksheets to make sure she is comprehending...without having to listen to more narration😉...my brain can only handle so much verbal answering😂. Spelling-Natural Speller list and a homemade family study of important spelling rules. Math-tutoring through topics similar to MFW 1st grade, but without any workbooks. I will use homemade math manipulatives and teach place value, addition and subtraction with regrouping-up to 6 digits and multilayered addition up to 5 places, multiplication facts and basic multiplication of 1 or 2 digits, intoduce division, fractions-adding and subtracting like fractions and comparing them, counting by 2s-10s and 25s, calendar work, graphs, and lots of math and logic games and puzzles. If I find a workbook under 5 bucks I will add that for seatwork, but overall I will be tutoring, quizzing math facts cold, and writing 10 problems daily for her. Handwriting-cursive introduction and then copywork of paragraphs in print or sentences in cursive. Just getting a nice new composition book. English-Primary Language Lessons 1st semester and Rod and Staff 3 second semester. Bible/Science/History/Geography as part of the family studies this year...and is all stuff I already own. We are continuing reading aloud from the Golden Childrens Bible, Considering Gods Creation for a science focused year...and reading aloud about different cultures and weekly geography quizzing for fun. I am also reading aloud many classic childrens books as a group😁....all free and on my shelf. Some things came up this year and need to keep things as inexpensive as possible...I own everything on this list from many years of homeschooling...this year I may not make any purchases outside of my Ker and making activity bags for my preschooler, but they will have a solid experience still in the basics😁. More one on one tutoring never hurt anyone😉. I will keep on the look out at dollar tree for interesting crafting supplies and make her a special box to create with for art...and let her explore using nature in art as well. Brenda P.S. I have been homeschooling for a longtime so I have so much on my shelves..so having a low-spend year (100 for all books, supplies, and printables for 6 kiddos) is actually doable...I understand this isn't feasible for others who are tight😉...especially if they haven't homeschooled long...I just wanted to encourage other moms that it is ok to homeschool on a tight budget...just plan well😉 using a scope and sequence.
  2. I would buy cloth diapers again...so soft...and just makes babies even more squeezable. I will never get a full sized crib again...our house is too small...and we mostly cosleep and only ever used bassinets. I am getting a minicrib for this lady as it is studier than a bassinet and will allow them to take naps longer than 2/3 months as a bassinet gets outgrown so much faster. My babies are big and my milk is cream😂.
  3. I personally did books, toys, and then clothes at our house as it is what needed done for sanity😂. I always say do what you feel motivation to do😁. But to truly KonMari as you do entire things, not really rooms😉. You can alway Flylady your kitchen until you are ready for a full KonMari method to prep it for the arrival of your new appliances. Enjoy your new treats😁
  4. Honestly I would be fine with not getting any tax credits-even though it would be harder on us...if they also quit funding the vast majority of special interest groups, excess money to all federal programs outside of military/education/and health insurance for kids. But the last several presidents haven't had a stable budget-always spending more to keep their personal base happy... This will destroy this country, just like any home that builds debt to the point of not even affording the interest payments-which as a nation looks like we are headed. I would love to see ALL unnecessary funding stopped and let people write in on their tax forms where they would like to donate money towards...everyones own political focuses can be funded by the people who truly support the idea...allowing the government to focus on education, securing a strong military, and helping the poor children.
  5. I personally would use the following for your 5th grader😁. Rod and Staff English-it is a strong grammar program that incorporates writing throughout the program. I would take 2 days per writing focuse day😉. Christian Light Reading does vocabulary, literary terms, figuative language, and comprehension skills...I would just let him read daily for an hour or two in addition to this skill focused work. History- I love the simplicity of Rod and Staff and it incorporates many social studies strands...and is inexpensive. Each year is a major focus of a diffedent area. I would do level 4 first semester and 5 the second😁 OR Notgrass history of your choosing. My choice is Rod and Staff, but we just LOVE it here...especially the mapping in every lesson from the back of the book with simple tracing paper...so fun 😁. I hope you enjoy your first year. Brenda
  6. I definitely can loom into having someone else look at it...we did get a much smaller actc. Since our tax liability is 0 it is based on the old law that folded into the new-if that makes any sense. So we didn't get the expanded credit which for us was a 6000 dollar difference...as we have a bazillion sweet babies😂. It was originally part of theblaw, but the last night before the signing of the new bill it excluded the lowest income bracket as a way to save 1 percent on the bill...or it wouldn't pass😉. But the lowest bracket already gets the EIC and the much smaller ACTC...combined comes out similarbto what the CTC is- if our income bracket with our number of kiddos ended up with both they would actually get shy of half of their entire earned income as a bonus-that they didn't earn...kwim...so the EIC is already generous. Our close family friends had just a bit more than we did with 7 kiddos and they had a tax preparer do their taxes as they run a small hone business...and were told this as well...their liability is 0 so they got EIC and the old much smaller AcTC, but not the expanded CTC because of last minute change to the bill. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.
  7. Absolutely the renovation😁...then take 1000 and take a short 2 day family trip when the work is done😁.
  8. Yes...we didn't qualify for the CTC at all because we made just shy of 30,000 and it puts us at not owing taxes...to be honest I feel like the EIC is beyond generous already...Turbotaxcaster had us getting though...which I would have fainted😉...but when we ran numbers through Turbotax, HRblock, and Taxact we didn't qualify because tge kids actually make our taxes owed at 0😉...so we don't get the expanded child tax credit because we have kids😂. The EiC allows enough to help us let me stay home and home educate the kiddos...and is such a blessing.
  9. Also some workplaces fire you if you miss 3 days...despite doctors notes...so they go with the flu and pnuemonia as they need the jobs. But in this case of Sunday School our church does not push attendance at all, and we send sick kiddos back to their parents...which has happened every single week. We don't send runny noses or minor coughs, but fevers and vomiting or general feeling like laying down is getting sent back...and then parents always say they knew the kiddo had xyz, or had been at the doctor the day before with flu, strep, norovirus...it is like really😷. I love these kiddos and want them to get better and come back😁.
  10. I think there is things normal not crazy people know not to do, and then there are things that you know aren't right, but don't care enough for others-including your own child who wants to lay in bed😉....because they are selfish. Yes, even in the church you will find selfish people. One of the children in particulars parent knew I was ill the week before...and had a full conversation about it the day before, including talking about how I want the church to put up paperwork-and they won't...and she sent her extremely sick child who was still vomiting after vomiting all night and once during the day...to my class-this lady absolutely knew...and found it convienent to stay home and send him with an older sibling to church...sadly some people just don't care about others as much as themselves.😟
  11. Sounds like she has an Ahab husband who is weak willed and wants to make her happy and a ton of flying monkeys to help fight her battles for her. I would respond simply that this an issue between the two of us and I understood her intention clearly.
  12. They like subtle...itbmakes it easier to act like they are notbunderstanding what you are upset about. The serpent was more subtle than any creature😉..in the garden. I would distance myself and make solid boundaries...it will show you very quickly her intentions😉. Npds don't take boundaries very well.
  13. We recently dealt with this...and totally cut said family members out of our lives because as much as they hated one another the first time we decided to do something to protect our family-have CMAS at home- they attacked us with false allegations to cps. I would be very careful and never play their game...just recognize it and distance yourself....permanentlybif any of them are also sociopathic.
  14. Honestly, I think the only place for sick people are homes and hospitals. Our church does have facebook live so anyone can watch at home or offers free dvds of sermons for those who want them...so they can enjoy a wonderful sermon and drink their chicken noodle soup to😁. We have tons of babies and elderly, so I think we should all put their needs before our desire to attend service.
  15. Wow..that is fascinating. I should have all of their titers done...it would be highly interesting to see what they wil say. I still wonder why my vaccinated kiddos took it so bad though compared to my nonvaccinated kiddos-that would be an interesting study as well...if age has different responses or something.
  16. I am not sure if he has or not, but that is a good thing to ask😉. Oddly, most of our Sunday School teachers are nurses.😁. We live in a smaller town, so maybe having the nurses or the doctor-who comes as well to our church...talk about this would help.
  17. Our church is very laid back about attendance because it is huge, but I personally doubt any parent who has watched their kid vomit all night and is still fevering really thinks that it is ok😉 to bring them to church, but they do. I have personally asked for them to put up papers, but have been rejected😣. I have instead chosen to educate my whole class about preventing germs during class- including washing hands upon arrival as snack is shortly after😉...we have sinks right in the classrooms. I also require any kiddos who go to the little bathroom to have a helper help them wash their hands immediately after as this is under age 6 kiddos😉. I just want to prevent transmission as much as possible in our church...norovirus has made 4 rounds this winter in the church and now their is flu😷.
  18. Ours didn't change at all. We are a large family in a lower income bracket and still recieved the exact same credits as before- EIC, but did not receive anything from the expanded CTC as it is only for those that have had to pay in taxes...not that that is bad..just saying😉. So in the future based on this new system, with soon to be 7 kiddos if our income grows we will go from receiving EIC to the CTC-this is simplified of course, but pretty accurate. Brenda
  19. Yes, they had it at the same time a day apart symptoms started. I really thought they would all get it, but none of the other kids had any symptoms at all...I have never seen swollen lymph nodes to that degree before or since.
  20. I teach Sunday School and it has been horrible this winter...parents bring their fevering children who were hospitalized the day before with the flu or who had been vomiting all night the night before and are still ill to class. This is every single week i have had to call parents from the sanctuary...that absolutely knew their children were still contagious. Also, not only is the child wanting to go home to bed, they have possibly transmitted the illness to the other kids, and I am 6 months pregnant. I really don't understand this at all...they are educated people...they understand communicable diseases...basic home quarantine your kiddos please.
  21. I also think some adults hate shots as much as 2 year olds...and for that reason alone that some don't do it...also they are not required to do so like children are...because it probably wouldn't have a way of being enforced without encroachment upon medical freedom.
  22. My husband definitely did the full whoop, but since he was fully and recently vaccinated, we had only thought pneumonia. It lasted months-he wouldnt even go to the doctor despite all night coughing fits until it had lasted a month with no improvement...he is stubborn😉. Thank goodness none of the kids even had a cough the entire time...which is shocking as we live in a very small house, but he did keep everyone up at night coughing...worried to death about him.
  23. My husband got the pertussis vaccine as he works in a hospital and they were pushing it free on all workers. He got pertussis 6 months later. He was fully vaccinated as a child and again in the army...and again 6 months prior. Luckily none of our nonvaccinated nor 2 vaccinated children got it. It is a horrible sickness...we thought he had pnuemonia and instead he had pertussis. Oddly, a similar thing happened in our house with mumps...only my 2 fully vaccinated children got the mumps 2 and 4 years respectively, after they were fully immunized. I don't believe the vaccine caused it or anything, but I do find it very odd that my nonvaccinated children didn't get it.
  24. She was speaking of the vaccine...so I was responding in kind that my daughter was vaccine injured as well. Sorry it wasn't clear.
  25. My daughter had major neurological injury from pertussis as well...or it is the one the doctor blames. We are not sure she had her 4 year shots and went majorly backward in verbal and memory abilities. We have not vaccinated the rest of our kiddos since, but would and have encouraged our kiddos to make educated choices for themselves once they reach old enough to understand risks vs. benefits for them personally. They may go overseas for travel and need to be vaccinated to protect themselves and others when they come back, go to the miltary, or desire to dobso because they want to work in childcare or medicine later...but I want it to be their choice as we regret doing them with our daughter...she is doing better now 9 years later, but it was definitely slow and steady. I hope all goes well for your other kiddos.
