It's almost exactly 6' from the half wall to the window. I just measured lol.
I just remeasured the length of the room and it's only 14', not 16' like I thought it was.
We could run the 12' desk along that wall without impeding the window too badly. We would block the door but we aren't using it anyways.... hmmm.

Mmm... not really. A new sofa isn't really in the budget right now and it's practically new. I've toyed with the idea of an L shaped couch. If I'm picturing it right in my head, I like your idea though!

But I have no idea how I want to rearrange it!
The living room is our only living space, no family room or den in this house. It is one open space shared with the dining room and the kitchen. Here maybe a drawing would be best.
EDIT: the length of the room 14' not 16' like I thought it was.

The "TV" is actually ds's computer monitor and we don't watch TV all that much. We could really go without a TV in the living room at all so the TV doesn't need to be a focal point or anything. The 12' computer desk is dh's and mine. It's actually two desks and a tall printer stand inbetween so it can be broken up and moved separately. Dh and I like our desks near each other though. The shelves and 3D printer are all dh's stuff. The shelves are not built in and can be moved. Yes right now they partially cover the window.
We don't eat in the dining room, the table in there is a standing height table/island with shelves underneath and no chairs.
We don't use the front door in the living room at all and it is inaccessible from the outside. We use our back door as our front door. The hall behind the front door goes to the guest bath and ds's room.
I'd like to be able to access the windows more easily but that's just a want, not a need. I want to replace ds's computer desk/TV with a different desk but I don't have a specific one in mind yet.
I don't have any rugs, just wood look vinyl plank floors, but I've been thinking about getting one to define the space more in the living room and reduce/hide the wear on the floors.
We don't have a coffee table but I would like to get one. It just doesn't seem to fit the space right now as it is.
We have just one tween-aged kid left in the house & two dogs, one medium sized mutt and one tiny dog (chihuahua sized). We don't have people over at all so no need to think about entertaining or anything like that.
If you are still with me, I'd love to hear how you would rearrange things in here! lol

Yes it is military slang also.
Honestly that's where I learned most of less than savory language was being a military brat and then a military wife. Now that I live away from the military, I don't hear the slang as often anymore.

SNAFU was orignialy military slang for "Status Nominal: All F'ed Up.

I've never heard anyone use the acronym "BFE". I've heard and used the phrase since I was a teen but I've always known not to use it in polite company (or when I was a teen, I knew not to use it with my parents who also had the long list of "vulgar" words listed above and more)
I've also always known the euphemism of Netflix and chill. Maybe because it came about about the time my adult kids were becoming teens?
My husband plays a card game with kids that he calls "ERS". The game itself is completely innocent but for whatever reason the name of the game is "Egyptian Rat Sh*t". I had never heard of or seen the game played before I met him. Kids love it though.

When my adult children were still at home we could definitely go through 8lbs of chicken in a meal or two. Now that it is just me, dh and our youngest at home, 8lbs of chicken goes a whole lot further lol. I've had to relearn how to cook now that it doesn't feel like I'm cooking for an army. I used to make chicken and dumplings in a huge roasting pan so that everyone could have seconds. Now, I'm the only one here who likes dumplings so I rarely make it anymore. I wish dh and ds were more adventurous eaters sometimes. 🙄

Got a batch of nomato ketchup and nomato bbq sauce made. So bbq chicken sandwiches and chicken hurry (made with the ketchup) are going to be happening here in the next week or so. 👍

I can't remember who posted about them but I bought these about 6 months ago after reading about them here on the boards and they have been in constant use here freezing single portions of soup and leftovers. Last month I stocked my fridge with 4 different kinds of soup for me frozen in those single serve blocks. It takes 3 minutes in my microwave to go from solid block of ice to hot bowl of homemade soup. 😄

That's the thing, I have two incredibly picky eaters (dh and ds) and I have food allergies (tomato and shellfish). Makes it hard to make lots of dishes as is. Feels like we are in a rut dinner wise. 😕
I have two crockpots, a 6qt and an 8qt. I'm thinking maybe white chili in one and plain shredded chicken in the other. If I have more than will fit in the crock pots, then I'll bake the rest.
I'll make some bbq sauce (tomato free) for pulled bbq chicken. What else can I make with the shredded chicken? Last month I made and froze portions of chicken noodle soup and chicken tortilla soup (again tomato free) for me since I'm the only one who will eat soup. I can sub roasted red pepper puree for tomato sauce in most recipes. Just need some ideas lol.

It was previously frozen and accidentally put in the fridge by a helpful dh. lol Can I refreeze?

I'll use some of it for tonight's dinner but what else can I do with the rest of it so it doesn't go to waste? Does precooked chicken freeze well? Soups don't go over well here, what else can I do that's easy?

Dh has one. He's made replacement knobs for the ac in his truck. He's made little plastic parts for Ds's train set so he could hook Legos into his wooden train set. He's made parts for vintage toys he has repaired for ds.
He gets most of his prints from thangs.com.

Dh has a brain shunt for intercrainial hypertension, also known as psuedotumor cerebrii. We just had a check up with a neurologist and they suggested Aimovig for his ongoing headaches. I've read that it is fairly new, only approved by the FDA about 5 years ago, and is the first drug of its kind. The goal is to reduce his need for prescribed narcotics to treat his daily headaches. The brain shunt reduced the severity and to some extent the frequency of the most severe headaches.
Has anyone here tried Aimovig? I'm hoping it helps him but we've tried so many different meds but nothing seems to work.

I agree with the hard work being the closest thing to a cure for tween behavior. Even pointless hard work. When my oldest three were 14, 12 and 11, they got in trouble for something pretty big. I honestly don't remember what it was now but the punishment we came up with for it was to carry a pile of cinderblocks up the hill to our house by hand. One at a time. Took them about an hour or so to relocate the whole pile. They got finished and we said, "Ok now carry them back where they belong." They were not pleased. They never needed such a harsh punishment again though so it worked lol.

Another for lightweight for arthritic hands. My mom had corelle when I was growing up and I never remember a plate of hers ever breaking. I just got myself some corelle. The dinner plates are the Pioneer Woman pattern in Aqua and then I just got winter white bowls to go with them. So far they have survived a few times of being dropped. I handwash mine as we don't have a dishwasher but my mom's was always washed in the dishwasher for decades and never broke.

We use "sprinkle cheese" too except it means any kind of shredded cheese. lol

We have "mac-ee-oh-nee" and cheese around here. My kids who called it that for years are no longer kids.
Youngest ds liked to play "Happy Farmy Valley" on the computer. The real name of the game is Stardew Valley but Happy Farmy Valley sounds so much more fun, lol.

Dh's truck has a dashcam. And after a near miss of being in an accident about a month ago, I'm seriously considering putting one in my car as well. Luckily, I was driving dh's truck at the time of the near miss so we had the dashcam footage that showed the other driver was completely in my lane and almost hit me head on. He swerved into the ditch at the last second but I was glad to have the footage just in case it had come into question.

I'm allergic to the aluminum in anti-perspirants. I get huge oozy welts in my armpits if I use it. Not fun.
I use Secret deodorant which is aluminum free. If your friend can get over the fact that it's product marketed for women, they have a fresh linen scent that's pretty gender neutral. Coconut is what I use and it doesn't smell too feminine IMO.
I haven't come across an anti-perspirant that is aluminum free, just deodorants.

The 14' measurement is the left to right measurement in the picture and the 18' measurement is from top to bottom in the picture.

Yes, the shelves would fit on that 6' space between the half wall and the window.
I really want a coffee table rather than end tables as a place to play games and such as ds11 is really into board games right now.
