  1. I think you are conflating a medical issue with a moral judgment, and I'm not a fan of that. My child (who is an adult) will be judged by people like you who perpetuate the stigma that HIV is the result of shameful behavior, and that makes me angry. If people want to stop the spread of HIV, they have to stop vilifying people with HIV and stop casting some as innocent victims and some as not.

You can't pretend that HIV isn't passed at all by shameful behavior such as prostitution and infidelity. It is small minded of you to think you have some moral high ground because you have immediate family that has contracted HIV. As I indicated in my earlier post, this has run through our family as well and in more than one person and in their cases, it wasn't their fault either. So maybe YOU should drop the judging.

  2. People in Africa are also dying from AIDS because government-sponsored vaccination programs of those in the military used unsanitary needles and transmitted the virus to their military members. It happened in my family. How dare you blame people with HIV of moral failings?

We have experience with HIV as well and it IS caused by moral failings (adultery, infidelity, promiscuity).

  3. It's 20 minutes of hiit on the elliptical or stair climber. 4 cycles. Typically I don't do anything else on those days.

I would try plyometrics if your knees can take it. Dr. Oz has a 15-20 minute workout by Shaun T on his website. I don't think 20 minutes of HIIT alone is enough for that day.

  4. On the road over the weekend. Sunday I had a miserable time on a treadmill, worst 6 miles in memory. Core Synergistics in my hotel room on Monday. Tuesday, Insanity from memory in my hotel room. Today, not sure. Trying to put the home and life together and in order.

KH, kickboxing on video is hard to do. I am sure if you were to take a class you would do quite well.

    : )

  5. I didn't find that article particularly informative or helpful. For instance, it is the exception not the rule that people die in marathon running. Is marathon running dangerous? It is the exception and not the rule that some one has a stroke while using a rowing machine.

HIIT mimics flight and fight responses so it is not some foreign modality.

  6. I did Insanity Certification training on Sunday. Wow. That means I did Insanity over and over again that day. Yesterday I was catatonic. lol I did nothing. Today, I am feeling better. I would like to do cardio bag and mma class but I am not sure how my schedule is shaping up.

  7. I feel better with more exercise as well, but if I'm going to, you know, actually do this homeschooling thing I can't workout as much as I'd like. I guess my kids' education is more important than me working out for longer than an hour.

    Is this a dig?

  8. Does it actually tone your butt, as in lift it? I have been doing squats and haven't noticed a huge improvement so I wonder if there is any hope for me. I do like that it isn't high impact and tons of cardio, I would stay away from P90X because of that.

Yes it does. As for squats are you going deep enough in your squats?

Lunges are also wonderful, in fact, they are probably more effective than squats. BBL has some isometric type moves that work. I don't consider P90X to be especially high impact although there is impact (jumping jacks, jogging in place, basketball shoots, etc...) but there are modifications and the program still works if a person chooses not to do ANY jumping.

  9. Go online to www.roadrunnersports.com. Call up a rep, don't use the on-line shoe finder. They will help you find a shoe. Many brands come in wide. Also, consider seeing some kind of physical therapist that specializes in functional movement.

Perhaps this link will give you some tips in finding a doctor to help you get running again. http://www.functionalmovement.com

  10. Yesterday I ran 6 miles (which I may have already posted) but I also did a cardio bag class and an MMA class. I tried backing off on exercise because of all my chronic pain from scoliosis and decreasing cervical curve as well as trying to be more productive in our homeschool. I feel so much better with all this heavy duty exercise. So much better. I must be an angry person or something!

  11. A question for you WTM runners. Have you always been running types? Or did you take it up later in life?

I ask, because I have always loathed running, and now, having started it up in a small way late in life, I'm really struggling. I have set a fun goal (the 2014 Disneyland 5K), but it's a challenge. I guess I still have leftover nightmares from junior high PE where the mean coach used to yell "Cafdog! My Grandma runs faster than you, and she's been dead 20 years!!"

Is running a mental hurdle as well as a physical one? Or am I just a big weenie who runs slower than a dead grandmother?

I hate running. I can only run with music. I made myself run because it is the simplest of exercises to do. I am not a good runner but I plug away. Eventually I built up enough stamina to do long distances.

Back to the topic at hand, I ran 6 miles today.
