  1. Just wondering, my dd (9) HATES cursive & it's a big struggle each day. Had a friend tell me she didn't worry about it with her kids, with all the keyboarding that is done these days. Really?? Thoughts??
  2. Just wondering, for those who've used MFW US History...would it be adequate prep for the AP exam (along with the college board book)?
  3. Mine died & I have quite a few ink cartridges I'd love to pass along to someone. They should all fit in a flat rate envelope, $4.95 postage.
  4. I did wonder about that, as it said on the bottom of the application 'subject to availability of funds' something about the federal budget. Would be nice if they'd let us know one way or the other!! My son was looking on our state's website & it looked like last years recipients weren't published til September.
  5. We have MANY allergies around our house...but can burn most of the ones described (vanilla/baking ones), Pumpkin Pie, Pineapple...we can't do any floral, or anything that is smells strong of perfume type scents. Bath & Body has one called 'Leaves' that we really like.
  6. Has anyone received notice in your state on this one yet? We're wondering when it's announced.
  7. My son took that exam last year. He felt it was difficult, but got a 4. His class did lots of practice essays/exams. Think I agree with finding a tutor, with someone familiar with the exam. Bet she knows her stuff better than she thinks she does!!
  8. Has anyone taken one of these? Any input? Cruise ends in Athens & considering extending for a day to see at least a few sights. Who knows if we'll ever get back to Greece!!
  9. I have a Whirlpool Cabrio, glass top, just bought in last year & I love it. We had mold issues with a previous front loader. It cleans nicely. We have sheep & llamas with our fair share of gross laundry & no complaints.
  10. I have to agree. We're in our third year of HSing, and had fallen behind in grammar. I'm grateful for this year, going through the entire book for my 9th grader, to have a more solid base before heading on. From a parent's perspective, manageable. I wasn't interested in something I needed to do with her, my littles keep me so busy, wanted them to be able to DO it & have me go over to help.
  11. Love the advice on curfews & common courtesy. His chores, I believe are down to trash to the street once a week, and taking the dog to his kennel at night (dog ADORES him, more for the dog's sake than anything). I agree on the rent...will be nice to have all your input when I discuss with DH.
  12. Thanks so much for all the input. We're looking for some grade 8 & 10.
  13. I've never heard of that place, thank you. Have you ordered from them before?
  14. instead of going away to college. Any pointers on having him in the house? For instance, my husband was considering charging him rent. I was thinking, as long as he's in school, no rent, but chores, of course. Hadn't realized I was 'planning' on him going away to school, til the formal financial aid package came & it just wasn't feasible. Took me a few days to re-adjust my mindset. No 'extra' bedroom to shift, laundry/food won't change. Figure we'll have our conflicts & just looking for some been there/done that advice.
  15. Does anyone know? We've never used their books before, but are looking at using some this year.
  16. I don't have any answers, but will be watching this thread. We're in similar situation, only history is my dd's favorite. I've been drooling over MFW Am History, but we already have core 400. Decisions, decisions!
  17. Specifically, history, grammar, lit & vocab. What did you like / dislike?
  18. My dd is requesting more of her Bible curriculum. She's been doing SL. Any suggestions?
  19. My dd did: Sonlight 300 World history for: history / Bible Geometry Chemistry German I (Powerglide) Home Ec (1/2) PE (1/2) Sewing (1/2) Fine Arts/piano - 1/2 English: Speech with coop / Analytical Grammar / Lit in SL core / writing with a tutor For 10th, so far for sure: Biology Algebra II German II Fine arts But...totally stressing over history, Enligish. A neighbor homeschools & said she could particpate in their BJU curriculum for history, but they're doing world history next year. She'd have 2 years of world history, then 1 US History & Gov't her senior year. It feels like a failure on my part to send her to the neighbors, but balancing her needs & the small ones in the household is a challenge. Considering MFW. She did SL Core 100 in 8th grade. Any suggestions?
  20. We gave nieces a can opener, micro wave cooking pan & pizza cutter. It was what they asked for, for dorm living.
  21. Okay, so thinking, Abeka phonics/writing, Saxon K for math. And, just wait on everything else. She'll pick up lots of science type / cooking, etc, from the family life & older siblings. Is that enough for K?
  22. My parents do live there, so I'd get to see them too. Definate pleasure value. My mom has Lou Gehrig's disease, so I wouldn't want to lose any time with her if it wasn't totally worth. Sounds like...most likely not.
  23. Our state discontinued their homeschooling convention. There's one in an adjancent state, but 9 hour drive each way. Is it worth it? I've only been able to order books from catalogs & I HATE not being able to see anything first.
  24. On paper, she's just 5, but in reality, a solid 6...so she's definately wanting to learn. She wants to learn to read...I just want it to be laid back. Thanks so much for all your input!! We live on a small farm, sheep, llamas & alpacas (oh my!) so thankfully, some definate field trips right in the back yard.
  25. Thank you, thank you...just the kind of information I was looking for!!
