  1. Montana. I haven't done much investigation, just took the word of homeschooling parents who went before/are more experienced.
  2. It is my understanding we don't have dual credit here. Rural, state university is our town, and after she takes the SAT, she could register for classes, but at full cost. Anyone think that would be a good route?
  3. My 16 yr old DD, is sandwiched between older brother who everything academic comes easy to...got tuition + stipend at local university, math whiz. And, younger sister, vivacious, school comes easy to, started piano & caught up to DD in 2 years. My 16 yr old feels like she doesn't excel at anything, and that nothing comes easy to her. Cousin her same age is a track star. She works very hard & her coop teachers love her because she always does her work. We're having a hard time finding curriculum for her 11/12th grade years. She bristles at the mention of AP/testing required subjects. I think she's worried about letting us down, not measuring up to older brother. I don't know what to do, how to help her! She's amazing with young children & volunteers. I've been working on setting up an internship type one day a week working in the children's ministry program at church. Watching the tears drip out of her big eyes last night, my heart is breaking for her.

She'll have the option of the Clep tests. Just wondering if anyone has any BTDT suggestions. Watching the tears drip out of her big eyes last night, my heart is breaking for her.
  5. How do the classes work? Is it in a conference room/white board type setting on the computer with audio? I couldn't find this info on their website.
  6. My DD did chemistry before bio...just the way the co-op classes worked out.
  7. If the goal is taking the AP Bio test...would you recommend DIVE or Red Wagon, or something we haven't thought of?
  8. We recently saw a segment on '60 Minutes' on the Khan Academy. We mentioned it to our first year college student. He commented, 'of course I knew about that, how do you think I scored a 5 on the AP Calc exam?'
  9. I was hoping someone had used the core this past school year & would have some input.
  10. Has anyone done Core 400 with the new IG? Is it better? We'd purchased the entire core used, before reading all the reviews. Wondering if I should order a new IG...or do something else.
  11. What did you use for high school history credit? Help me make up my mind!
  12. We skipped physical science, and went straight to bju chemistry in 9th, and bju biology in 10th. I wish I'd made her take physical science!! She's not a mathy kid. (We actually re-did Algebra I.) She had to work her tail off in chemistry, and in retrospect, we could have made life so much easier if we'd done physical science first. She'd had strong science in jh, thought she was ready & so we moved her ahead. BJU appears to be about 3/5th pre physics, and 2/5 pre chem. We're actually considering going back to physical science for the pre-physics portion, or moving to Apologia Adv Biology. Our coop science teacher truly believes Apologia is light in content.
  13. Is there some sort of schedule in the TM? We've only used them in coop classes...never actually seen the manual.
  14. Do the BJU books have a schedule with them...or, are you creating your own schedule?
  15. Do you think this an exam child could self-study for? What materials would you recommend?
  16. We did Sonlight 100 in 8th grade...wish I knew if this was just a big repeat!! Anyone know? DD loves history.
  17. Anyone used this that can say, was it a good choice? Did your child take the CLEP test with success? DD has been doing group classes. Next year (11th grade), all other kids are enrolling in public or private school. She really wants to stay home. I'm overwhelmed with decisions. I'd really like her to take a couple of AP or CLEP tests, in 11th & 12 grades. We don't have much of a dual enrollment program where we are, rural. Thinking the MFW Am History, Apologia Physics, prep for AP Lang, Algebra 2?? She's done: 9th grade Geometry Chemistry World History (Sonlight 300) German I Health/Nutrition 1 semester & 1 semester sewing Speech / Analytical Grammar / Lit in Sonlight PE 10th Grade BJU English / Lit German II (Powerglide) Re-did Algebra I Biology Business Tech (SOS) Model UN Fine Arts - German Missions Team with local school
  18. My DS used a 'used' SAT prep book with practice tests, believe the book you're speaking of. It was a couple of years behind. When he took the practice tests, he did well. When he took the SAT, he did well. He only had to take it one time. On a side note, he said the book 'Hack the SAT' was the best prep he did. A friends was struggling, had to get his score up to confirm his entrance to honors college, lent him the book & his score went up 200 points. My understanding, mainly test taking strategies, but gave them more confidence.
  19. Just wondering. We've been blessed to be able to do classes with neighbor's kids this past year, but next year, her ds is going to ps. So...back to on our own for 11th & 12th. DD has done Sonlight 100 & 300, in 8th & 9th. In 10th, she's using BJU grammar, bio, German 2, & a few electives.
