  1. Wow!  Thank you so much for all your stories and suggestions.  Lanny, thank you!  I copied and saved all your information to my computer.  The latest today:  I got a call from DHL, the delivery company.  Basically they have done nothing since I spoke to them last week but they said they are "escalating" the investigation and sending it to a supervisor. (I think I was supposed to get excited over that.)  I was told that the next step would be for them to talk to the driver and ask him to describe where they delivered the package. Umm, they haven't done that yet???  And first of all, how would the driver remember that from last week.  Secondly, all he would have to do is put my address in Google Earth and get a picture of my house to describe it.   I also asked if the signature was taken electronically or if it was a paper/form that was signed.  Guess what?  She admitted that they did not have a signature but that it said "authorized by receiver".   So I again contacted the company I bought the phone from to give them that piece of information.  They are waiting to hear from DHL, but really both companies are dragging their feet.  DHL is supposed to call me back in two days.  If I'm not satisfied with what they say, then I'll start with Lanny's suggestions.

  2. Ugh. I'm so angry.  Just got an email from the company and they say "your parcel was successfully delivered to the correct address and unfortunately we don't have a copy of the signature..."  So I opened up a case with Paypal and the first step was to type a message to the company in the space they provided.  So I emphatically stated, again, that I didn't receive or sign for the package, and the reason that DHL cannot produce my signature is because they didn't get it!!!  And if DHL could not produce my signature, why would they still believe that they delivered it?

But...  Paypal states this on their policy:  "If the seller presents evidence that they delivered the goods to your address, PayPal may find in favor of the seller for an Item Not Received claim even if you did not receive the goods."  So the company will produce the Proof of Delivery form saying it was delivered and signed (but there's no actual signature) and I won't get my money back or my phone.  :(

Also, I told both the company and the delivery company that I wanted a copy of the signature to bring to the police since if they insist that the package was signed for, then it was signed fraudulently.  (But the truth is they have no signature.)  I also told them I would contact the Better Business Bureau.

  3. I don't usually splurge on myself, but for months I was able to save up enough to be able to order a new smartphone I've wanted for a long time.  The delivery service the company used was DHL Express and they are saying the package was delivered and signed for but I never received it!!  I was tracking the delivery online and we were on the lookout all day for a delivery truck. Then I got an email saying it was delivered and even listed the time of delivery.  No truck ever came to my house, no one ever came to my door.  But they are insisting that it was delivered to my address and signed for.  The package is nowhere.  My husband drove to the post office the next day thinking that perhaps it may have been left there.  Nope.  The company I ordered the phone from and the delivery company say they are investigating while still insisting the package was delivered and signed for.  I've asked for a copy of the signature they claim to have gotten, but have only received a Proof of Delivery which just says "Signed" with no physical signature showing.  It's been 4 days and no answers yet.  I'm so upset!  I paid with Paypal.  What recourse do I have?

  4. My daughter scraped someone's car a little when she was parallel parking so she left a note on the car with her contact info.  A month later she got a phone call from the woman and they exchanged insurance info.  The lady was sweet and grateful that my daughter left the note. But then she friend requested my daughter on FB! LOL

Good story... My sister used FB to track down her best friend from 50 years ago when we lived on Guam.  Even though they are on opposite coasts of the US now, they recently were able to meet up and spend the day together.

  5.

I also saw something called a roku stick, I think, which sounded more appealing than a roku box.

We just cut our cable and now have just wifi, a Roku 3, Netflix, and a Playstation Vue subscription to live-stream all the channels we watched with cable.  We were going to go with the Roku stick, but were told by the FIOS installer that if we had a lot of devices using the wifi it would be better to go with a Roku box since that can connect directly to the TV using a CAT-5E cable and would free up the wifi.  Not sure if it really would have made a difference but it did make sense so we followed his advice.

  6. Triggers for me are too much screen time or not drinking enough water.  Excedrin migraine is great!  Generic brands also work for me.  I'm super sensitive to meds so just a half pill works for me if I take it early enough.

  7. If she has to change planes during the trip, and she prints out the boarding passes at the airport, make sure she waits for BOTH passes to print or the clerk might have to run through the airport calling her name because she left one behind.  Yes, I did that. LOL

Keep a fully charged phone charger in her purse. They are inexpensive and are the size of a lipstick.

Use a crossbody bag so you have two free hands.  My dd uses a Very Bradley crossbody just for flying.  It's lightweight, large enough for her Nook, and also has several secure compartments/pockets to keep everything organized and easily accessible.

FlightAware is a great phone app.  I find that it lists info like delays or gate changes quicker than the airline apps.   GateGuru is another fun app.

Tie a brightly colored ribbon or bandana around the handle of checked luggage.  It makes it easier to identify when they are the conveyor and all look the same.

  8. This could be totally off, but it does sound like something that happened to me too.  I knew my tank was not full yet the pump kept shutting off.  After happening several times (and it working fine for my husband) I finally realized that I was holding the nozzle sort of at an angle when I was pumping the gas.  When I lifted the handle higher and sort of closer to the car, the nozzle angled in a little differently and the pump started again without any problems.  Worth a try.  :)

  9. Some of my faves:

    Chomp SMS for texting

    SwiftKey keyboard

    Cartwheel for Target discounts

Clean Master to free up phone RAM & more

    RetailMeNot for store coupons

Wunderlist for my to do list, Christmas list, grocery list, etc.

    gReader for blog subscriptions

  10. So today I had my very first allergic reaction to food and I'm a little scared.  I was eating a quinoa & chic pea salad with cucumber, tomatoes, and red onion.  I've made this salad before and I have eaten these ingredients all my life.  I probably ate about a cup and a half when I started to burn in my face, ears and head and the intensity kept increasing, even on the whole top of my head.  Then my arms started to get itchy. My son said I looked red so I ran to the bathroom mirror and found that It looked like I had a sunburn on my face, neck, shoulders, chest, arms and on my back all the way down to my waist.  Thankfully I did not have any trouble breathing or swallowing at all.  The burning lasted probably just 5 minutes but the red rash lasted about a half hour before slowly disappearing.  I had no Benadryl in the house.  I have never had any food allergies or even seasonal allergies. My husband isn't very concerned and thinks it was just a fluke, but my friends are scaring me into seeing a doctor and asking for an epi pen.  Anybody have an experience like this?

  11. Homemade.  Dh went out to the  market this morning and spent hours making it for me.

I make a quick lemon ginger tea in 10 minutes.  Put enough water for 1 cup of tea in a small saucepan.  I use almost a 1 inch chunk of fresh ginger - peeled and then finely sliced into the water. Bring to a boil and then simmer 10-15 minutes. (The longer the stronger.)  Pour into a mug and add a generous squeeze of fresh lemon.  Sometimes when I feel a bad headache coming on I'll drink this instead of taking meds.   It will either take the headache away or at least take the edge off.

  12. Some of my favorites:

Dropbox - I have mine set to automatically upload to my computer all the photos I take with my phone

Swiftkey - I use this as my default keyboard.  Fantastic.  The more you use it, the better it becomes at prediction.

Penny Finder - my son collects pressed pennies as souveniers so we use this app when we travel to find where the penny presses are

FlightAware & GateGuru are great apps for flying

Inkpad - my to do list

Weatherbug and Pandora are great too

  13. I'm wondering if there is anyone who has made green juice in a regular blender and then tried something like a Nutri Ninja.  Did you find  a difference in the juice?   I started making green juice in blender, but once I pour it into a glass, the thinner juice settles to the bottom and the juice at the top of the glass is quite thick and frothy and I end up scooping it out with a spoon and throwing it away since I have trouble swallowing that.  I'd like to be able to drink the whole thing and am wondering if I should invest in a Nutri Ninja, if that would make a difference.

  14. The church I attended until I was nearly an adult only used the KJV, so that was my first Bible.  The Bible versions I currently have in my home are: KJV, NKJV, ESV, HCSB, NIV, NASB, NLT, and CEV.

But now I do most of my reading with my Bible app (YouVersion). I use the NASB and the AMP, which are my favorites.  In addition to daily scripture reading, I am also using a plan to read through the whole Bible in 1 year.  For that I use the NLT.  In addition to those 3 versions I’ll occasionally check out the text in the NET and YLT.  That’s what I love about that Bible app - it’s easy to switch between versions.

My daily scripture reading with my 13-year-old is with the NLT.
