  1. My home went from a chaotic mess to being fairly organized.

Regarding housework, I've tried everything - apps, FlyLady, and read lots of home management books - and still couldn't find the control I needed and could stick too, which was frustrating because so many others had found success using them.  I finally found a schedule that works for me and I stick to that. Each day I clean 1 area of my house (Monday is 1st floor bathroom, Tuesday is for bedrooms, etc.) so I know that by the end of the week the whole house has been cleaned. (Of course there's the daily clutter control.)  Three days a week I do laundry (Monday is for whites & delicates, Tuesday is for colors, Thursday towels & jeans).  I generally get those chores done first thing in the morning so I have the rest of the day free.

I use a large monthly calendar that hangs in my kitchen.  Everyone's schedule goes on there so everyone can see at a glance who needs to be where and when.

I print out a "Daily To Do" template that I made on my computer.  On it are sections labeled To Do, To Call, To Go, To Buy, What's For Dinner.  And there's a space for Notes at the bottom.  I don't use this every day - just when I feel I'm really busy and need help to stay on track.  It's especially helpful around the holidays.

The best thing we ever did for our finances was to start using the EveryDollar software.

I found that what works for one family may not be perfect for another, so keep trying and experimenting and I'm sure you'll find success!

  2. Love reading all these!

My sister and I always experience coincidences.  We call it "twinning" even though we aren't twins, in fact we're nearly 15 years apart.  For instance, she called me last week to tell me she was making Italian Wedding Soup that she hasn't had in 25 years.  Guess what I was doing?  I was in the market shopping for the ingredients for Italian Wedding Soup that I hadn't had in years and have never made before.  Things like this happen to us all the time.

  3. We had a cc debt of about $15,000 and the monthly interest charge was killing us.  After making payments a couple years and the balance barely budging, we went to our bank and took out a loan with a MUCH lower interest rate and paid off the credit card.  The bank loan was to be completely paid off in 4 years, but after the 3rd year we were able to pay the remaining balance all at once.  That loan saved us!

  4. I had one a couple years ago and it was SO EASY!!!!  They gave me something to relax me, I felt NOTHING and don't remember the procedure. I do remember being pampered by the nurses before and after and feeling very comfortable.  The hardest part was eating jello and drinking gatorade during the prep the day before, since I don't like either.  lol  I also had clear broth which I did like.

Couple of tips:  I chose to not eat huge meals the day before my prep day.  Not necessarily to lessen my trips to the bathroom, but eating light helped prepare me for a day of not eating solid food.  Also, knowing I would be using the toilet a lot, I used Desitin to help prevent irritation.  And moist baby wipes instead of toilet tissue.

  5. I have had many kidney stones.  I believe the largest that I passed was 6mm.  You can have stones in your kidney and not feel pain until they start to travel and cause obstruction.  I have had lithotripsy several times and also scopes to remove the ones I could not pass.  Hydrocodone was usually prescribed for pain.  My suggestion would be to take meds BEFORE the pain gets too severe.  Actually, passing the stone wasn't painful at all for me.  It's when the kidney is backed up and you feel that vice grip - oh my!!!

Lemon is supposed to help prevent formation of stones.  I think it's really important to try to discover why they are forming in the first place.  After dealing with several stones, I went to a new doctor who discovered I had hyperparathyroidism which was causing them.  Also, I was drinking very little water.  Now I always keep a glass of water on the counter as a reminder to drink all day.

Generally the insurance companies negotiate a rate for their customers, which is lower than a cash payment.

We no longer have health insurance (we belong to a health sharing ministry) and have found that our doctor visits and tests are either the same as when we had insurance or they are greatly reduced.  My son recently visited a specialist.  They told us that the charge would have been $500 for the visit if we had insurance, but because we were cash payers we were charged just $80.  For blood work, the bill came to $1200 but was discounted to just over $200 because we were cash payers.

United States Postal Service - Purchasing and Materials Service Center

I'd not seen that combination of letters before.

Same here.  I had gone onto the USPS website to put in the tracking number I received last night but it said that it was in incorrect number so I was doubting I was in the right place.  It just wasn't in the system yet because today it is tracking.  Should be here tomorrow!!

    Edited to add:

Probably it is in USPS Priority Mail now?

     Yes, Priority Mail.

Based on the experience of the OP, if I had to send something to the USA, today, I would probably send it via FedEx.

If you Google Yelp DHL Boston (not far from us) you can read all the reviews.  Some nice, but many bad reviews.  I guess it also depends on the honesty and integrity of the couriers they hire.  Two couriers said they came to my house on 3 different occasions but they certainly did not.

If I were you, I'd contact the email of the DHL person that actually responded best.   Give them the information you have on the second cell phone, and request that extra care be taken to actually get the phone to you.   They might maybe send the word down the chain that a problem shouldn't happen again.  If I were you in the email to the DHL person, it would probably include the words, "Please make sure this phone isn't left at the door of some random address like the last one".   Then I might or might not remove that before sending, depending on how pissy I was feeling.

I did ask if there was something they could do to insist that the courier get a signature upon delivery.  The last package was supposed to be signed for but the courier ignored that. I'm going to put a sign on my front door that states something like Please do NOT leave packages outside.

  10. UPDATE #3 -   In the latest email DHL sent to me they stated that they have contacted their office in China and have started the claim process with OnePlus and suggested I continue to keep in touch with OnePlus about a replacement or reimbursement.  They gave me a reference number to give to OnePlus to identify the request.  They also apologized "for the poor manner in which we handled your shipment..." and so on.

OnePlus had contacted me yesterday asking for an update.  They had incorrect information from DHL so I briefly explained what took place and sent them the emails I received from DHL that stated the package was delivered to an incorrect address.  Today I contacted them again with the reference number and asked for them to send a replacement phone.  They replied that they are waiting for feedback from their logistics partner on the claim from DHL (not sure what that means) and will update me as soon as they have any update.  They encouraged me to contact them if I have other inquiries regarding the process so they can address it as soon as possible.

Oh, by the way, I did ask OnePlus to block the IMEI sometime last week. They didn't respond.  Actually I sent that through the Paypal correspondence because I wanted Paypal to have a record of that, but OnePlus only responds back to me when I send them a direct email.

So what kind of phone does the delivery guy have?  Hate to be thinking that way but that is where my mind goes.

I would be the biggest pest ( use other word that fits your mood) and be calling every hour until I got a refund for it.  It is not the first time they have bumbled up a delivery. DHL has a long history with it.

My husband thinks the driver stole it. I have had countless deliveries here over the last 15 years or so and nothing has ever been stolen when left outside.  OnePlus has insisted that I have the phone because the tracking stated delivered and signed.  So hopefully with this reference number DHL is supposed to be giving me tomorrow it will prove to them that I don't have it.

  12. UPDATE #2: And it’s not pretty.  See if you can make any sense out of this.  Sorry it’s long.

In my last update I said that DHL confirmed that my phone was delivered to the incorrect address. These are quotes from the emails I received:

Thursday:  “At this time, we are attempting recovery of your shipment. I am very sorry this has happened and as soon as I have more information I will let you know.â€

Friday:  “Our courier attempted recovery yesterday, however there was no one home, and left a notice to contact DHL. Our courier will be going by the location again, today to attempt recovery. I will keep you updated and let you know as soon as more information is available.  Please let me know if you have any questions.â€

My response to that email: “So it is confirmed that my phone was delivered to the incorrect address?â€

Her response: “Yes, it was delivered to an incorrect address.  Please let me know if you have any questions.â€

That was Friday. I sent an email today (Monday) asking if the courier was able to successfully retrieve my package.  This was the email I got back: “Upon speaking to our courier, he has confirmed making delivery to your address and leaving the shipment. Our courier has mentioned that he has been attempting to recover from your address and no one has been home. He also mentioned leaving notices for you to contact DHL. Have you received any notices on your door?â€

I am in disbelief.  So I call her voice mail and leave a message that she is in error.  I tell her that I am the person who is missing the package, it wasn’t delivered to me but to an incorrect address and the courier is trying to recover it from that incorrect address, not mine.  I’m the one who didn’t receive the package.  I then send her an email explaining everything again.  And then she calls me a few minutes later.  She explains that the courier is saying that the package was delivered to the correct address, my house.  So I go through the whole thing again saying I received emails saying it was delivered to the incorrect address.  And why would the courier attempt to recover the package from my own house anyway?  She asks if the courier left a notice on my door because I wasn’t home.  No.  No. No.  We were all home the last several days (husband is sick) and no one came to my door or left a notice on Thursday, Friday or any other day.  I can’t even make this up - as I’m talking to her the DHL truck pulls up to my house and the guy rings my doorbell.  He tells us that he did deliver the package and left it at the front door.  He said he didn’t ring the doorbell to ask for a signature because if it’s a nice neighborhood he just leaves the package.  So he’s saying it was stolen from my front step.  I was still on the phone with DHL who is listening to everything (being recorded also) and while my husband stepped outside to speak with the guy I tell her that he can’t be telling the truth.  There is no way I can be told it was delivered to the wrong address, they tried to recover the package for 2 days, and then say it was delivered to the correct address but stolen from the front step.  Where did they go the 2 days they tried to recover the package?  They didn’t come to my house! None of that makes sense.  Someone was home every day they are saying they have come to my house.

She tells me that she believes me and that they are in no way saying that I am lying, they will deal with some of these things internally and take appropriate action.  She is contacting DHL in China today to start a claim with OnePlus stating that the package is lost.  She will email me tomorrow with a reference number.  I’m to contact OnePlus with that reference number.  I don’t know whether to request a refund or a new phone.  I’m so tired of dealing with this.  Thank you, if you have read all this.

  13. UPDATE!!

DHL has emailed me each day since I contacted Mr. Hewitt.  Today I received an email confirming that my phone was, in fact, delivered to the WRONG address.  The courier attempted recovery yesterday but no one was home so a notice was left to contact DHL.  The courier is going back there today to attempt recovery. I feel a sense of relief now that they know what happened to the phone.  Thank you all so much for supporting me and guiding me, especially Lanny.  I don't think I would have gotten this far without Lanny's advice.  Will continue to update...

If this is the web site you bought the phone from, wow, those are really expensive!  "From $439".

Yup.  That's the phone. I have bought all my phones used from ebay, but this time I splurged on myself and I never do.  I cleaned houses to save up money for the phone. I could cry (well, I have cried) so I keep telling myself it's just a phone.

Lanny, I contacted Mr. Hewitt today as you suggested.  Sent him a long email detailing everything.

Is it a large volume seller or an individual?

The company I bought the phone from is OnePlus and I ordered the phone directly from their website.  They shipped immediately so my problem isn't with them, it's with the DHL delivery company.  I just went back on Paypal to update.  Since they had me contact the seller through them (even though I've been in contact with the seller through emails) I wanted Paypal to have a record of everything transpiring between the seller and me.  I requested that OnePlus block  the IMEI number of the phone shipped to me if DHL cannot find my phone.  DHL is contacting me tomorrow and if I'm not satisfied with what they tell me then I'll escalate it further with Paypal.

I've been in contact daily with OnePlus (seller) but they are just waiting on DHL for information.  DHL is DRAGGING THEIR FEET and basically have done nothing to find my package so they are not giving OnePlus any updates.

Just thinking...  If OnePlus sends me a replacement phone, they'll use DHL again!  Can I have them send it to a drop off location like a UPS store?  Does UPS do that?
