  1. If encounters are sort of lumped together for billing purposes, how does a practice know who its rainmakers are? Is there generally a dual-accounting system to account for actual receivables? Private practice lawyers are very familiar with billable hours and having to account for their hours in order to keep up with others. Individual in a salesforce are definitely into recording the volume of their own sales.
  2. ... and they offer you an appointment with a nurse practitioner or physician's assistant instead, do you accept it without much resistance? I have had one or two PA appointments. The insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB) always lists some MD's name. But the physician (let's call him Dr. Lee) did not see me in any sense. How can Dr. Lee legally bill for an encounter with me? Even it is something legal with my state's licensing board, do you think it is ethical? I would never explicitly state that I looked after someone child for 1 hour and now wanted to be paid for it if I had never in my life gazed upon that child and couldn't identify him/her if my life depended in it. Next question, do you think you should be charged the same rate whether you saw an MD or PA, or NP at any given practice?
  3. You are very strong to be thinking so clearly. I recently attended a talk by Leigh Bortins who founded Classical Conversations. She said she's met are a good number of single moms who homeschool adopting this method and find support through their local CC Community. I don't have much experience with CC, but it can be done with CC. I'm praying for you.
  4. i don't know if you're joking but the above was the best way i could guess it's meaning I've only ever heard "socialization" used to describe training wild animals, like feral cats. You put them with tame cats and hopefully the feral ones start to become socialized. So my edufinition is analogous to that .Have to admit, this was the weirdest word of all to apply to children.
  5. Having only looked into schools from the Kindy (primary level), I was surprised to learn a bunch of words I never knew. Can anyone elaborate on the vocab I don't know and add more? Educator: teacher, principals, and guidance counselors Pre K: (pre-kindergarten) nursery school High kindergarten: a class whose kids would be in Kindy but whose parents wanted more preK studies Kindgergarten readiness: having suitable skills to "make it" in kindergarten Socialization: Being around and getting along with non-feral people Manipulatives: toys Faith-based initiatives: (not sure what this means, church sponsored activities?) Sight words: not sure either Kinesthetic learning: ?
  6. Possibly. I feel they are pretty similar. That's what I was afraid of. I searched WTM for "MBP" and found lots of opinions -- much like your feedback above. (I got no results by entering "moving and beyond and page" or in the WTM search field.)
  7. (Hey why does my title say Just Visiting. I am a registered new bee) Ok, re-casting my question, has anyone used Moving Beyond The Page (for 5-7yo) with great success? MTB seems somewhat political and scattershot to me. (sample pages: http://www.movingbeyondthepage.com/curriculumSamples.asp?level=Ages+5-7) Maybe I am reading too much into it. Thoughts? Success stories?
  8. For the Grammar stage ... Could you tell me if you think the curriculum called "Moving Beyond The Page" (http://www.movingbeyondthepage.com) it is at odds with the philosophy behind tWTM and classical edu methodology in general?
