  1. Hope things settle down soon for you Critter. Daddy doing OT today. School- she has done her Bible time, poems, math mystery story, Elementary/Shorter catechism and she is currently listening to Uncle Wiggley and Mother Goose stories while drawing pictures. Still needs to do her calendar, telling time workbook, her maps and logic workbooks, math, penmanship and she needs to read to me. Maybe even her US Presidents flash cards and her US States and flags books.
  2. If with the "fun stuff " he can do it then it might not be a comprehension issue. I read your OP to my DD7 and asked what she thought. She said, it sounded like he wasn't ready. Sometimes it's hard to pay attention to stuff your not into or don't understand. With my kid I do history of our family, city and state along with learning the states names and capitals. She also has flash cards of the US Presidents. Ancient history is something she isn't ready for yet. But she is starting to ask questions so maybe soon.
  3. My DD7 wanted to learn cursive and wants it fancy. She is of an artistic bent. Being in first grade and it being her first year of it, I require it all the time. Her writing either way is neat and legible, most of the time. Practice, practice. By 6th or 7th grade it will be her choice from that point on. That's how it was for me growing up. Neatness does count though.
  4. She woke up this morning feeling better and is eating better too. Symptoms she had yesterday are gone. She is tired though and gets to veg on the rocker and watch cartoons. Did school today. Bible time, she read to me, math, penmanship, calendar and telling time. No extras today.
  5. DD did school in the morning but seems to be coming down with something. Stomach ache, diarrhea and tonight started throwing up.
  6. Hadn't thought about it yet. Depends where we are at the end of July. At this age things can jump or slide. I will think about it and get back to you.
  7. Daddy/Daughter Day today. Science shows. Currently at storytime with craft at library. New workbooks and card games our being delivered today. Laundromat Not sure what he plans for school today.
  8. School done this morning. Now playing with her cousin at an indoor activity center. She bumped into a lot of her friends here too. Then off to the house for more playtime.
  9. Currently at Sunday storytime at library. Had church this morning. Lunch with Dad. Audiobook Rest for busy week. DH working OT several days this week.
  10. Monday regular school done. Tuesday Dad did school with her. So lots of science, art and play plus storytime at library. At night he's been reading "Charlotte's Web". Wednesday will be regular school plus science and art with Dad. Dad has been working a lot lately so she is excited to have Dad at home now. So it's all about Daddy.
  11. Arts and crafts are not my thing but DD7 loves it. Her Dad is great at it and does it with her. Same with science and experiments but once again Dad enjoys it. I'm not into the sports team thing just because of the everybody wins mentally. That and it's also expensive. There is an exception, swim team which my little one wants to do. Once she learns to listen to her instructors and becomes eligible.
  12. My first grader is a perfectionist and meltdowns at some mistakes not all. Earlier this week she melted down because she didn't get 100 on Math. Math is easy for her, most of the time but she is just learning how to carry a number over. That is where she made her mistake. After she calmed down and I showed her why it was wrong. She understood and fixed it. I explain all the time none are perfect but she won't except it. I didn't either at that age. I still tell myself that today. I don't meltdown about it anymore but it bugs me. I know that there are no perfect humans but I still WANT to be. With age and experience my daughter will learn want and reality are different.
  13. Hope you and yours feel better soon HSL. Drop Dad at work. Grocery shopping Did Bible time, calendar, telling time and math flashcards. Currently at storytime at library. 19. DD7 would have group art and music lessons. I would buy the curriculum I really wanted. Start her on latin lessons. Build my own personal/educational library and one for DD. World/road schooling for a year or so. Lots of science experiments and art things. Her two favorite things.
  20. Dad is in control of school today and he gave her the day off. She did do her Bible time and she did a science experiment with me before Dad got up. We took her to a Noon Year Eve party at our local library this morning. WOW, it was crowded! Mini grocery shopping. We stay home on New Year's Eve. We usually sleep through the whole thing. She does have school tomorrow. It starts her second semester of first grade.
