  1. Yeah, I’m only in my 40s but when I was growing up in Texas most of the African American kids we were friends with wouldn’t come in our home until they asked if we allowed Black people in. It wasn’t uncommon for them to be told no. I know several in my Midwest area today. I’m floored someone thinks there aren’t majorly racist areas. ETA: I wanted to be clear that it wasn’t uncommon for them to be told no by other families - not my own.
  2. There’s one at the courthouse in the city where I grew up. I have no idea who it is but the inscription says something about giving glory to their (Confederate soldiers) cause. Makes me sick thinking about it. It’s still there and people are fighting to keep it there.
  3. Same for schools. My brother teaches at a Robert E Lee high school. Over the past several decades the district has become predominately African American and they haven’t been able to get the name changed. Finally, with the current protests it looks like it will happen. It boggles my mind why people have refused for years to change it. It’s just wrong.
  4. I personally feel everything related to the Confederacy should stay only in history books and museums. People have wanted these statues removed for so long so I get the frustration and anger. IDK, all of my education took place in Texas and looking back at how much we were taught to respect traitors is ridiculous. This past year, I’ve been doing a lot of genealogy research on my family and the majority who were here and fought were Confederate soldiers and I still think the monuments need to be removed and don’t think they deserve the respect they’ve been given. It’s well past time for it to happen everywhere.
  5. I’m dreading July. Indiana is supposed to start phase 5 on July 4th, which means we’ll be fully reopened. I think it’s a bit crazy.
  6. I’ll be interested to see what happens here in Indiana. We’ve had protests for weeks and my own family has been to several but the numbers here are fine. We did just reopen bars a little over a week ago though, so we’ll see if that affects the numbers at all soon enough.
  7. Dh and I drove over to see my mom this morning. We have to pass many restaurants and they were all seriously packed. The parking lots were full and there were large groups outside of each one waiting to get in. I think they’re allowed to be at 75% capacity now but I couldn’t believe the crowds. We went to the store after and there were was no one but us and the employees wearing masks. It used to be the majority were wearing them but almost none today. We’re going to go back to hunker down mode and see what happens, especially since bars reopened just over a week ago here.
  8. https://news.iu.edu/stories/2020/06/iupui/releases/17-fairbanks-isdh-second-phase-covid-19-testing-indiana-research.html?fbclid=IwAR1Nt42Rz_NKxpTAjNAL_8W9UBPD9KJB0ZsyicxzWQJjntfvpQNqjLfPkUc I wasn't sure where to put this. I know the phase 1 info that Indiana did has been shared previously and this is phase 2. I don't know if any other state is doing it. The results showed the virus spread has definitely decreased across Indiana and still showed that more than 40% of those with the virus are showing no symptoms.
  9. Every protest we’ve been to here had organizers that push masks hard. Almost every person was wearing one. And, yes, all outdoors as well.
  10. I’ve lived 21 years in Texas and 10 in Florida. Florida is worse! We still visit but never ever in the summer. 😁
  11. Yes, it’s for Indiana. The 60+ crowd had been steady at just over 30% of cases and yesterday they went just a tiny bit below that but it was still a shift. Our death rate has remained rather flat but at least not rising. I follow this doctor for a decent breakdown of Indiana stats. He basically attributes Indiana’s success so far with our surrounding states being stricter than us. He’s also a big proponent of wearing masks. https://www.facebook.com/hoosiercovid/
  12. Yes, I’ve noticed for the first time here that the 60+ crowd dropped to just below 30% of cases. The 20-59 year olds are the majority of cases. The deaths still seem to stay in the older group so hopefully those younger won’t get it as severely, the death rates stay down, and they don’t spread it to those older.
  13. I just read that the Keys are making masks mandatory through June 2021. Maybe it will catch on.
  14. Yeah, I’m worried about us in Indiana. We’ve been doing really well despite opening up beginning of May but bars and clubs had stayed closed until this past Friday. I was worried about gyms opening a few weeks ago and all has been well so hopefully opening bars won’t be an issue, but I’m concerned.
  15. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.kxan.com/news/coronavirus/texas-woman-tests-positive-for-covid-19-a-second-time/amp/ This woman in Texas seems to have tested positive twice and been sick twice. Article says in between she even donated plasma.
  16. Just read they tested 500 employees at Orlando International Airport and over half tested positive! 😳 Yikes!
  17. I called the clinic and all the lady would tell me is they can see me Monday and not to use urgent care again because I just see them yesterday. I’m kind of ticked at this point that they won’t tell me anything over the phone.
  18. It’s now swelling down my wrist. Is that normal? Ortho clinic said I could come back Monday but I’m worried.
  19. https://www.wthr.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/first-coronavirus-drug-improves-survial/287-22a7698d-26c2-4799-b318-75e237c0b037 Looks like maybe something promising.
  20. I woke up to a fat, purple hand this morning. We went to the ortho urgent care. Nothing is broken and they don’t think there is any damage to worry about. He told me to think of it like a badly sprained ankle and to keep icing it for several days. He gave me a list of things to watch for and I feel so relieved nothing is seriously wrong! I’m so glad I asked here because I had no idea about ortho urgent care!
  21. Yeah, we did it a few times and it just made my anxiety sky rocket. We quit a while ago and I feel much better about things now.
  22. Dh actually just looked into and you guys we have an orthopedic urgent care clinic in walking distance. 🤦‍♀️ How did we not know this? It will make it easy tomorrow.
  23. Thanks, everyone. I wouldn’t have thought about going straight to an orthopedist as I’ve never broken anything before nor has anyone in our little family. I’m going to figure out who to see tomorrow. The pain is finally better as long as I don’t move it. The hand is still useless though. Dh had to help me change because any pressure is too much. The rest of me is now hurting. Hopefully things are better tomorrow.
  24. I have no idea but I’ll look into it. I didn’t know they were a thing.
  25. I tripped over the dang sidewalk while walking this morning. Dh thought I face planted but my left hand saved me. Skin was ripped off and my ring and pinkie fingers hurt like crazy. It started swelling between the two. I can move all my fingers but I can’t use the hand at all. It hurts too much. I went to urgent care only to find out after an hour they have no ability to x ray today. 😩 The doctor said because it was swelling between the bones, he thinks it’s just trauma and not broken. They cleaned it up and put a compression bandage on it, and told me to take Aleve. It’s not hurting as bad now but it’s still useless. He told me if not feeling better by Tuesday, to get an X-ray. Dh thinks maybe we should go ahead to ER but I don’t wanna. So, is there really any harm in waiting a few days?
