  1. In our denomination (Alliance) the MDiv is the preferred degree. We were in a similar life circumstance with small children and dh doing seminary very part time (I think we figured out it would be 6 years at the rate he was going.). We ended up being called to a church back in CA near our home, and dh was able to complete his MDiv online while he worked full time, and was done sooner than he would have been had we stayed on campus. He completed his degree through Asbury even though we aren't Methodist. It was a long two years while he finished his degree (he worked on schoolwork on his days off). But it was nice to be employed in a full time way while in school. He found the online version very compatible with working full time-he wasn't constrained by class times. BTW, recently our senior pastor started a doctorate program through Denver Seminary. Since he has the MDiv, they credited him nearly a third of the credits needed to complete his PhD. So there could be some benefit in the long run if your dh wants the PhD. HTH! Blessings, Nancy in CA
  2. My husband and I were given a copy of the Bible formatted for the 90 Day program. We decided to give it a try and will finish next week. We have liked it very much. It has been very enjoyable to read together (we read independently and then discuss if we feel like we need to), and we feel like it has given us a good overview. Both of us have been Christians for a long time, and have read much of the Bible, but never so much in such a quick amount of time. Occasionally, we do have to remind ourselves not to pick at threads too much since the goal is to get the big picture narrative. I found a link to schedule we used here. It is down the page on the right hand side. It breaks down the Bible into the 90 days if you aren't using the Bible printed for the 12 pages a day schedule. HTH!
  3. Hi! I've homeschooled for almost 8 years, since my oldest started kindergarten. I heard about TWTM while in the middle of my second year, and have loosely based our plans upon this model ever since. Currently we are using TOG year 2. Homeschooling a toddler has certainly thrown a fun curve into our days. Hopefully next year will be a little less "curvy". :)
  4. Hello, I have a friend that uses the Houghton Mifflin Math CA Edition. Usually, in order to get state specific editions, you have to contact the publisher directly. They have sales reps for different areas. If you go to the Houghton Mifflin website, you should be able to find your sales rep, who would be able to help you. For what it's worth, I think the HM math program is good, but very expensive. You can get a solid math education for much less money using Singapore. Just my .02, Nancy in CA :001_smile:
  5. Hi Aubrey, I remember very well those seminary days of long days with tiny kids at home while dh was studying. We had a date night every week. I lived for date night (still do-we still do it). When money was too tight to go out, we had date night at home with a bottle of wine, a loaf of french bread, and some brie. After the kids went to bed, it was date time. Maybe you could hint at some at home date...be home by 8:30...I've got some special plans... Very humbly, I would also suggest asking your husband at the beginning of each week (or even the day), if there is something you can do to make his day better and easier. I have found that by asking this question, it takes my focus away from my days and onto his. Hang in there! Blessings, Nancy in CA
  6. In a heartbeat...I don't mind doing dishes by hand, and a washer and dryer in the house would be so helpful. BTW, when we were in seminary, we did do without the dishwasher. Right towards the end, someone lent us a portable dishwasher. I did enjoy it very much, but given your choices, I'd go for the W&D in house over the dishwasher.
  7. :iagree: I have been looking forward to a new episode all day!
  8. I'm not sure about their specific math programs, but my kids have enjoyed a variety of their math enrichment videos. My littlest dd especially enjoys the Math Monster videos...she asks for them often. YMMV, :)
  9. My kids really enjoyed that same "Let's Read and Find Out...Down Comes the Rain." I purchased that book along with some other weather themed books in a bundle from that series from Rainbow Resource. :)
  10. We have been able to get lots of good audio books through our library. A couple we have particularly enjoyed are Charlotte's Web, read by EB White, and the Ramona books read by Stockard Channing. hth,
  11. I have used My Publisher. I have made photo books several years in a row for Christmas gifts. Their quality is good and the prices seem very reasonable. :) They have a good promotion right now, too-50% off their photo books ordered before November 5th. HTH,
  12. Yes, I live east of Sacramento and it is terrible. If it didn't stink like smoke, I would think it was very foggy outside. :(
  13. When we lived in KY (98 through 2000), we loved going to the KY Horse Park. I think if you have horse crazy kids, they will love it, too. We went multiple times, and enjoyed it every time. There weren't huge crowds, but we did usually go midweek. I recently found a videotape of one of our visits...it was of the parade of breeds, where they parade many different breeds of horses into a ring and give a short explanation/description of each. It was fascinating, even many years later and on jumpy home video. Another great place we always enjoyed visiting was Shakertown, which was near Lexington. I hope you have a wonderful trip!
  14. That is amazing. How about this one....it just happened this past weekend.
  15. We love to spread it on some french bread along with some brie. :) Delicious!
