  1. I agree you should go to the doctor, but you might find some relief of your symptoms by drinking Gatorade. You might be really dehydrated.
  2. Just a little thing I noticed, you said the team captain is a boy. Any chance both girls are feeling more emotional about this whole thing because one or the other has a crush?
  3. Dd threw up just outside the bathroom door, and of course, all over the door and door frame. It was pretty epic. Unfortunately, the wood floor there is very old and has wide gaps in places. How do I get it out of there?
  4. Yes, 11 since Jan 1, and 50 this school year. I hear people say that it's still safe to send kids to school, it's all so random, think of all the kids that aren't shot each day, etc etc. Statistically, the odds are low of any given child being a victim, blah blah blah. You know how many people have been shot at my homeschool? Zero. And I'm pretty sure I can keep our record.
  5. No, it works today. Right now. People knew the boy in KY was troubled, and no one stopped him. We probably all know people who need someone in their lives. Go be the someone.
  6. Doing something does not have to equal regulations and laws. We all need to do something. Build community, get to know people, get your hands dirty. We don't need the Gestapo. We need backyard baseball and neighborhood cookouts.
  7. Sometimes benign fibroids can cause you to measure bigger. I don't have fibroids and always measure big until about 20 weeks.
  8. That's what they told us, too. They can't do anything while it is still swollen.
  9. You might consider donating them instead of throwing them away. Someone else might not be bothered by the smell, or has a trick that works for them.
  10. In the particular situation I mentioned, the daughters were barely educated to a 3rd grade level.
  11. We do, or for the year end test, if we choose that. An evaluation would be about $80 per child, a very basic home administered test about $30 per child. Also, in order to properly file, I need to have a working printer, and copy machine, as well as internet. Then I need to go to the post office and send it by certified mail. Of course, I could also do all my printing and copying and internet use at the library, or go to Staples or Office Max. I do have all the things I need, and I can pay $150+ a year for tests. I'm guessing there are many people who have only 1 car, which the husband uses to work, and do not have extra money to run around town and do all those things. Should they not be allowed to homeschool? I think it is an unfair burden.
  12. So it's for certain that a vaccinated person cant spread the flu? What if it's a milder enough thing for them they dont know it's the flu. It seems like they would be more likely to spread it.
  13. It might not be a bad idea? I mean, they probably do hear and see some stuff. I wonder if they are required to report things that might be a crime?
  14. Heigh Ho mentioned that the only people going to everyone's home is the post office, and JW. I'll add UPS and Fed Ex. I don't really like the idea of creating a secret watching community, but I am curious if postal workers, and delivery people are mandated reporters?
  15. Va laws are annoyong, and I feel they regulate testing too young. If public schooled kids aren't tested until 3rd grade, then why do have to test my 6yo? She made the k cutoff by a few days. I could have legally waited a year to start k, but as a homeschooler, she had to be on my noi, and she had to be tested with a nationally normed test (or we could have done the portfolio thing). And, again, I wasn't referring to this family as homebirthers, but a hypothetical under the radar family, as we were discussing the difficulty of catching them all.
  16. Personally, I don't like tattoos at all. When I see them, though, I just figure everyone has a story. Maybe facial tattoos seem worse to some people because it seems like purposeful disfigurement. I don't think it necessarily is, and with a little open-mindedness could perhaps be viewed more like jewelry, or some other ornamentation. The ones I've seen do tend to be a negative image, though, and perhaps that is another reason they can be upsetting. It feels like tattooed person is or is projecting strong negativity, and it is confusing. Sort of like you feel you shouldn't draw attention to it, yet also feel you shouldn't ignore someone in great emotional pain.
  17. I agree with you. I just shared the link because a lawmaker is actually beginning to discuss the same things we are.
  18. I'm mostly against more hoops, but I wonder if requiring parents to show continuity of education/registration could help. It's as easy as moving to a new school district to completely disappear. Or what if each registered homeschooler were checked to see if the child was registered again for homeschooling, or enrolled in a school in a different area.
  19. https://www.yahoo.com/news/california-house-horrors-13-siblings-205635011.html A California congressman is considering introducing legislation to mandate an annual walk through of the homes of homeschooling families. Abuse is mentioned in the article, so be aware if you'd rather not read it. The part about the congressman is fairly small.
  20. Yes, I wasn't actually referring to this particular family, but rather the hypothetical one homeschool mom in az was outlining.
  21. And let's add that the children were homebirthed and don't have birth certificates, or social security numbers.
  22. Gardenmom5, I completely agree with you. What we need is community, and support. Not random investigations and busy bodies.
