  1. My dd14 and I are working through this one right now. We finished her Algebra 1 book and started this. She is weak on word problems also. We're on Chapter 3, and so far, it's going well. The problems aren't too difficult. The explanations seem clear and the solutions are thorough. https://smile.amazon.com/Problems-Algebra-Proven-Techniques-Expert/dp/0071343075/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1527025844&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+solve+word+problems+in+algebra
  2. My 2 oldest dd's took AP English Language with Lilli Serbicki. They loved her class. She is teaching next year at Aim Academy (debrabell.com) My ds16 is taking her class in the fall.
  3. Thanks for this info. I’m kind of a junkie when I have unlimited. I was trying to wean myself away to be more productive but the first thing I did was buy a book that was more expensive than a month of Kindle!
  4. Thanks for posting this! I decided to cancel my kindle unlimited about 2 weeks ago. I’m so glad I did or I wouldn’t be eligible for this. I can’t pass this deal up.
  5. When we decided to put ds in school in 6th grade, I had to let our piano teacher know that lesson time needed to change since he came to our house during the day. When I called, he actually made the comment to me that we made the decision to put our son in school behind his back. It was such a weird, awkward comment to make. After that phone call, he was no longer our piano teacher. We still have a good laugh now and then over the conversation.
  6. I know you don’t always feel like reading or are too tired, but I read my kindle in the dark when dh is sleeping and I don’t want to wake him up. This has helped me immensely when I can’t sleep.
  7. I'm so sorry. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
  8. While the teaching at Blue Tent is excellent, I have to agree with the info about the workload. My 10th grader is taking Honors English 2, and he never seems to get a break from it no matter how well he plans. He is doing well in the class, but he, too, is a perfectionist and trying to do well on the discussion posts and the multiple assignments each week has been too much.
  9. Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, and A&P at Blue Tent. Asynchronous for $650. This price includes a lab.
  10. I don't have a secular option for you, but I'm with you. We can no longer afford their science classes.
  11. Thank you again. I appreciate all the info. I think we're definitely going to take this class.
  12. Thank you for this response. It is very helpful! One question I have: Are lab reports written up for the virtual labs?
  13. Do any of you have experience with this class? I was planning on Bio at the WTMA for my dd next year until the lab was separated into another class. Now we can't afford it. At $575 with a lab included, the Memoria Press online class has become very interesting.
  14. I wouldn't want a bed on the floor. Scorpions...and the centipedes. Not as dangerous but not fun to find in the bed!
  15. All of my older kids started lifeguarding at 16 and my 4th starts this summer. It's a guaranteed full time job for the summer around here.
  16. I have the iPhone SE with 128 GB. I think it’s perfect because of its size.
  17. Thank you so much for the suggestion. I'm sure she IS awesome!
  18. My ds16 is needing some help with his Pre-AP chemistry class, and I thought I would try an online tutor for the ease of it. BUT, there are so many to choose from that I have no idea where to start! Have any of you had success with an online tutor? I would love to hear about it. TIA!
  19. I have the iphone SE with 128GB. For me, it is the perfect size and it does what I need. I don't like the bigger phones.
  20. Worst year ever for me. Happy New Year to all of you posting. Hope 2018 is better for everyone!
  21. My dd21 is double majoring in Biochem and Cellular and Molecular Biology(I think). Many classes were required for both making it doable in 4 years.
  22. I really think you should make the pies you want and tell your friend at dessert time that the one pie has alcohol in it. There is nothing offensive about handling it this way.
  23. We just switched from the Foerster Alg/Trig book to Larson's Intermediate Alg. What a breath of fresh air! My ds was hating math and now it is going so smoothly. We will go back and do the Trig in the Foerster book when we finish the Larson book. Sometimes, such as in my ds's case, it is the presentation of the material that's the problem. Good luck in finding a solution that works for your ds.
  24. Though I've read through the book about 3 times, I regularly refer to different sections.
