  1. During Cycle 3, you do memorize John 1 in Latin and English as a type of translation exercise, and Cycle 1 & 2 each have a (non-required) Bible passage to memorize. I can't think of any time where copying Bible verses is required. (FYI, I'm a CC director and we've been in CC for seven years.)
  2. Yes. I get it from Amazon, but you can buy it at places like CVS and Walgreen's.
  3. Try Amlactin. My boys have x-linked ichthyosis and there are some similarities to keratosis type issues. They like Amlactin better than Lac-Hydrin, because the Lac-Hydrin stings more than Amlactin.
  4. There. I said it. Now I feel better. Thanks for listening. :-)
  5. I'm done watching "The Following." This past week's show was especially disturbing.

I know. My daughter asked me if she could watch it when it first started. I told her that she could but ONLY if I watched it with her and that at any time I could "call" it off limits. I am contemplating it after this week's episode. The whole thing with Joe "teaching" Roderick how to do what he does made me nauseous. Then the "love" scenes at the end...icky and disturbing.

  6. I will be. Are you coming all the way from Alaska? Wow! I grew up in Greenville and live only an hour north in Asheville. PM me and maybe we can meet up somewhere. I'd also be happy to answer any questions you may have about Greenville.
  7. Petition to eliminate DST. http://1.usa.gov/Zm4HBZ (I hope this isn't political, but it is an official .gov website.)

I think this particular issue crosses all political lines... at least here :D

  9. No, they are spelled Helene and Helena, but the pronunciation of the first two syllables are the same.
  10. The log home saga continues...we just got back from making an offer on it. We would appreciate your prayers that it is accepted!

Did I miss the thread? We live in a log home, so you caught my eye.

No thread. I've just mentioned it in a couple of status updates. It's been a roller coaster.

  11. Does he get an allowance? Put it in the bottom of his laundry basket. He gets to keep it if he has put the clothes away on his own. He has to give it back if he doesn't (and then he still has to put the clothes away while you supervise.)
  12. Funny! Here in NC they broke in just before the last 1/2 hour for the pledge drive. I'm sure it was a calculated move to keep from asking for money after a beloved character dies.

  14. Libraries "have had their day," says Horrible Histories author. Agree, disagree? Personally, I love the library and ours is packed every time we go.
  15. Disappointed tonight. It doesn't look like the awesome house we are looking at is going to work out.

Oh, no! The lodge behind you? I'm sorry!

Yes, Chelle, the beautiful lodge behind us. There's still hope, but not much. :(

Don't give up! It ain't over 'til it's over!

  16. Totally not in the market for a house. Now our backyard neighbor is selling her amazing lodge-style log home and we are probably going to buy it. What changes a week makes!

A similar situation happened to use seven years ago-----I hope all goes well!

  17. I direct my CC program and if your groups are already full the director should be keeping a waiting list. Based on my seven years of CC experience, I think you'll be able to get into a group by fall. It's still early and there are people who will go ahead and register their kids even if they are not totally sure they will be back next year. I've only had to turn away families who wait until early August to be put on the waiting list. Everyone who is on the waiting list at this time of the year has gotten in. CC also keeps track of people on the waiting list and will try to open a new community if there is enough interest.
  18. Thanks for all the recommendations. I've added a bunch of them to my list.
  19. I don't know if I could ever get him to read those! He watched the movie and for months afterwards referred to it as "that horrible movie." I think he slept in our bed for a week.
  20. Thanks. I was beginning to feel like I was dense. It's nice to know it is the programming, not me!
  21. I've finally found a book that my two reluctant readers will devour--Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Now I know some people don't like these books because they can be sort of rude, but I'm ok with them. :) (They are pretty darn funny.) I need some recommendations on where to go from here. One son is 5th grade and the other is 2nd. They both read fairly well, they just haven't fallen in love with it. TIA
  22. I have "Auto follow topics I reply to" checked and set to "immediately."
